25.01.2022 It is important to support healthy growth and development for your child based on their interests and passions, rather than what society expects of them. Look for opportunities to talk with your children about gender stereotypes. You can do this in a number of ways including using books, play, media and movies to start a discussion. Visit our website to find all of the useful tools that can help!

23.01.2022 How and why does this keep happening to women’s sports? It is time to show more equity in sports! Herald Sun you need to do better! Thanks Melbourne Vixens for showing us that you were part of the shoot too! Thank you for being incredible advocates and role models for children! Good luck for the big game tomorrow! You have our support!

22.01.2022 Our team at Level Playground has started to notice positive changes in some of the toys available to children and young people in mainstream stores. This week we’ve seen affordable dolls representing different abilities and ethnicities, toy marketing materials breaking down gender stereotypes and books which promote equality and respect! We recognise that we still have a lonnnng way to go, but it’s important to celebrate the small wins now and then. Have you noticed these changes too? Please share your experiences with us!

19.01.2022 Today we replicated an activity from Busy Toddler! It was so simple to set up and they have been playing for so long! The kids are calling it Car City What you need: ... large cardboard box permanent texta packing tape cars, blocks, trains (the kids just pulled out their Dino’s too!) What to do: cut the tape on the bottom of the cardboard and flatten tape the edges on the back draw your road map using permanent textas and then off they can go setting up their city! The possibilities are endless with this one! They just keep pulling out more things to add to their city! Have fun!

17.01.2022 So refreshing to see!

16.01.2022 Another day..another cardboard box! Today we used a cardboard box to play a sorting game! What you need: coloured textas cardboard box ... coloured pom poms/balls (these can be found in most craft packs) What to do: draw a coloured circle of each of the colours you have presented ask the little ones to sort the pom poms into the right circles! After they had a couple of rounds of colour sorting, we started to play a bowling game where we had to try and roll each pom pom into the right coloured circle! Was tricky but fun! When we were playing we tried to ensure that everyone has their turn, we spoke about colours being for everyone and we all helped pack away! This was so easy to set up and they spent a fair bit of time playing which is what we all want

15.01.2022 Here are some extremely helpful points to consider when helping your children return to school post Covid! Thanks Educate2Empower Publishing

14.01.2022 We are back!! We have been a little MIA lately. Since Melbourne has opened back up we have been using every bit of our spare time visiting new parks, family and friends. We needed the break as we were well and truly ‘activitied out’. Sorry to all of our International followers who are still in the thick of the battle against COVID. We hope you have been ok and we are definitely thinking of you! Here is a fun activity you can do! This can be replicated and scaled back to pap...er for an inside activity too. What you need: chalk for outside/textas for inside clear ground for outside/paper for inside cars, trucks, planes or even animals What to do: set up your cars or other items draw fun trails for them off they go! We started off just following the trails then we started racing each other back and forth. Samuel is really obsessed with blue at the moment so only wanted the blue cars. I had to sit with him and show him that the other paths/colours were fun too! Using the phrase ‘colours are for everyone’ several times! Have fun! Loren

14.01.2022 Here is a great colour sorting activity! What you need: coloured sheets of paper paper or cardboard... texta scissors glue cotton wool or cotton pads containers or cups to hold the different colours What to do: draw an outline of a rainbow and clouds on a sheet of paper or cardboard cut out squares of rainbow colours into seperate containers or cups tear up the cotton wool or pads make sure you have lots of glue! get sticking! We found the activity super fun. Took a little longer than expected to get the activity ready but once it was all ready the kids had a ball. Samuel didn’t have much interest in sticking the squares down but loved the glue! He didn’t let go of the glue stick the whole time and took responsibility of doing Evie’s too which helped speed up the process but also meant we ran out of glue! At Level Playground we love everything to do with colours! Have you got any other activities for us to try?

12.01.2022 Important message from Jayneen Sanders about body safety at this time of the year. Thanks Educate2Empower Publishing for bringing this information to us!

12.01.2022 This is a frequently asked question that we get a fair bit at Level Playground. Here is our reasoning behind this answer! By the age of two, children start to develop a sense of being female or male and research shows that adults often encourage them to play a certain way because of their gender. Boys are directed to toys that encourage spatial awareness and problem solving skills; girls are directed to arts and crafts that develop fine motor skills, or to playing with doll...s to develop empathy and caring. This leads to missed developmental opportunities for children of all genders. Providing children with a range of options will provide them with opportunities to find out what their interests are

10.01.2022 Solution focused language is incredibly important for empowering children and helps to develop a positive growth mindset! This image clearly presents the alternative words we can use. Thanks @wholeheartedschoolcounseling for the image

05.01.2022 Today marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence campaign. This year's campaign theme is #Respect which is an important element to Level Playground. 05.01.2022 We are so excited to have the opportunity to talk at this event tonight! We hope you can join us!

03.01.2022 The Draw a Scientist Test was first conducted in 1983 in order to study when children learn about stereotypes about scientists. In the original study of nearly 5,000 kids - only 28 of the girls and no boys drew female scientists. That's about 0.5% of all the drawings. Over the years the statistics are getting better but that is mainly because more girls are drawing female scientists. Emily Calandrelli is an incredible science communicator who hosts her own shows inspiring k...ids to get into science! One of her followers shared the picture of what her son drew! How awesome is the picture. Representation is everything! Go Gavin! It will be interesting to see the progression of these statistics to see if the changes we make within our homes and learning environments will make a difference. We bet they will!! Thank you to one of our followers for tagging us in this post!

01.01.2022 International Day Of The Girl exists to recognise girls' rights and the unique challenges girls face all over the world. The theme for this year, My voice, our equal future, reimagines a better world inspired and led by adolescent girls, as part of the global Generation Equality movement. Girls worldwide are demanding a life free from gender-based violence, access to health, skills, recognition and investment as leaders of social change. At Level Playground, we use our p...latform to try and break down barriers for all children to be whoever they choose to be. Our statistics show us that the world we live in is not set up to support girls. That's why we work our hardest to fight for a more balanced and inclusive world for our children. Today, and every day, we make a promise to continue our efforts in reaching gender equality.
