22.01.2022 EVENT 4: THE CARRY/OVERHEAD MEDLEY Seems like some of you thought it was all over after the "Powerlifting" bracket. Far from it. After warming up with the 3 Main Lifts now we can start moving some stuff around. One of the things about Strongman is that it isn't just about picking stuff up, it's also about moving it around. Oftentimes it's awkward and oppressive implements. Here we've chosen three of them to do in a consecutive "Medley".... First there is the Yoke. Feel the discs in your spine and knees whimper under a heavy load across your back as you try and walk or run with it for a set distance. Once you've made the distance with the Yoke you must immediately pick up "Barry". An unforgiving bastard that compresses your chest and core, making it hard to breathe and hard to run as you awkwardly waddle with your thighs scraping around the 12 inches of girth. Once Barry's finished with you then you must Clean and Press the Log implement over your head. The quicker you get the moving part of the Medley over the more time you have to play with the Log. With a fairly broad spectrum of interest in this friendly Competition we've chosen weights for each division that should allow most people to finish this event. But don't feel bad if you don't... Medley's are gruelling and a lot of times people never make it to the end. Time cap is 90 seconds. RULES: Carry/Overhead Medley -Yoke Walk 10 meters -Barry Carry 10 meters -Log press for reps -Cap 90 seconds -Yoke drops allowed -No Barry drops allowed (competitor is out if dropped) -Log reps may be failed. -Log must be clean+pressed every rep. Wait for down command from referee. -Elbow, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, belt, grip shirt, chalk allowed -Splitjerk/powerjerking/strict pressing/push pressing all allowed. WEIGHTS SUBJECT TO CHANGE Women light: Yoke: 100kg Barry: Empty (65kg) 8 log 35kg Women Medium: Yoke 160kg Barry: 85kg 8 Log: 50kg Women heavy: Yoke: 220kg Barry: 100kg 10 log 70kg Men light: Yoke: 240kg Barry: 85kg 10 Log: 75kg Men Medium: Yoke: 300kg Barry: 100kg 12 Log: 95kg Men heavy: Yoke: 350kg Barry: 115kg 12 log: 125kg https://fb.me/e/3mIYSD

21.01.2022 Neon dreams fulfilled. I'll put this up when the build is done.

21.01.2022 Curiosity killed the cat. I wanted to see what point the silver dollar Texas set-up stopped leaving the ground sumo. Just ripped all my calluses off at 345kg.

19.01.2022 Added more chains to the collection this week for the conjugate affectionados. If you train Westside style I have all the stuff you need here or on its way.

16.01.2022 @alphafit_aus delivering the goods again in the covid era where everyone just takes your money and never does. Top quality PU plates for my plate loaded machines (who knows when they will arrive from other suppliers). Another lat pulldown/cable row station to ensure better availability when the gym is open to the public.

14.01.2022 EVENT 3: THE SILVER DOLLAR DEADLIFT The last lift of the "Powerlifting" bracket. Strongman has been known for pioneering the transmogrification of conventional lifts. Taking otherwise staple gym lifts and returning them to their roots of picking things up and putting them down again, whatever form that may be. Here we have the Silver Dollar Deadlift... originally from the 1800's, where lifters had to hoist two barrels filled with silver dollar coins. We can expect to see s...ome huge lifts with this event, but where the ease of the beloved whippy texas bar and extra bar height gives a welcome advantage, the pedulum effect of the swinging weights on each end adds an unexpected element of difficulty. Everyone may surprise themselves with this event. RULES Max Deadlift - Silver Dollar -Texas bar, Silver Dollar implement -Men & Women using seperate bars. -Straps, chalk, talcum powder, suit, hitching/ramping allowed. Hands must be outside legs (No sumo) -Round-robin style to max weight. Knees must be locked out. Wait for down command. No dropping. -Bar starts at Empty Silver Dollars for women -Empty Silver dollars + 40kg for men -All competitors go in round-robin rotation. -Competitors may jump in and out at any time -20kg jumps for men -10kg jumps for women -Once a lift is failed, competitor is out -60s to complete lift after name called NOTE: Date has been changed to from the Public Holiday on the 26th January to the following Saturday of the 30th. 13.01.2022 Hack/Reverse Hack squat machine. This machine squat allows people to take their legs to failure more safely without the stability required from a barbell squat. Also helpful for beginners developing confidence in having weight on their backs. This is the first plate loaded machine to arrive at the gym but the last one I ordered (November). Hopefully the ones I ordered in April arrive one day.

11.01.2022 EVENT 5: MAX ATLAS STONE Here we are at the Grand Finale and a crowd favourite. Traditionally Atlas Stones are the last event in Strongman competitions. Atlas Stones were first introduced into World's Strongest Man in 1986, but the history of lifting large rocks as feats or tests of strength goes back hundreds if not thousands of years (Rogue has an excellent documentary on the history of Stone Lifting in Scotland and Iceland. Will post a link in the comments) In the spirit... of ensuring everybody gets a go and can test their capabilities with this hallmark Strongman event, we're keeping this relatively simple and straight forward. Starting at the smallest stone (about 30kg and the size of a basketball) we will go in round robin rotation up through all the stones until there's nobody left. The largest stone is 22" in diameter and 220kg. The Australian record is 215kg. Tasmania has some incredible male & female Stone lifters... maybe we'll see some records challenged? RULES MAX ATLAS STONE Round robin style -Stone starts at lightest stone (30kg) -Competitor has 60s to complete lift after name called. If a stone is already broken from the floor before time is up, competitor is allowed to complete the lift and it will be counted. - Drops allowed within allocated time. -Competitors may opt to skip a stone or join in at any time. -Tacky/sleeves/grip shirts/no shirt allowed -Stone to be loaded over 1.2m Bar (yoke) -Heaviest stone lifted in your category wins

07.01.2022 Is this a thing? It is now. Yoke? Zercher? Lunges?

05.01.2022 Building in the front windows to hang mirrors off for the new larger dumbbell area. Finally at the stage where I can farm out the work to others.
