21.01.2022 Went to bed last night as flat as can be, and feeling sorry for myself and my business after the decision to lockdown, for the second time. Also feeling very sorry for those who are doing it way harder than I am. Extremely tough time to be in business, or to have lost your job. Tough on the kids who will miss school, their friends and their community sport. Woke up this morning feeling grateful for my beautiful wife and kids. For the health of my wonderful parents, sister..., brother and their families. For my amazing friends and their support. For my sensational staff who keep this place going. As well as the loyal patients that make up Lewis and McConnell Optometrist’s - thank you to you all. We are very lucky to live in Melbourne, Australia. Stay safe and look after each other. This won’t last forever. #supportyourlocalbusiness We will still be open during these times to take care of any emergency, or important visual needs, so come and see us if you need. Big Love Stewart

18.01.2022 Very interesting article relating visual issues and the impact they had on some very famous artists in history. Love the story of Monet regarding the formation of cataract, and its influence on his changing color discrimination. http://theconversation.com/how-eye-disorders-may-have-influ

13.01.2022 Our legendary Optical Technician , Shaun (seen pictured with his daughter) was recently presented with his Spartans singlet - this is a special club reserved for those that have run 10 Melbourne Marathons! An amazing achievement Shaun N Lisa Hall and a great reward for years of discipline, hard work and blood, swear and tears. Congrats Shaun, and may you run the race of your life this Sunday!

11.01.2022 LATEST TECHNOLOGY We continue to strive for the best in patient care, and that includes investment in the very best equipment for eye disease detection. Allowing us to see, and image, further into the peripheral retina than ever before, we can detect sight threatening conditions like retinal detachment and Diabetic Retinopathy etc. Our "Optos" compliments our scanning technology (the "OCT" used for Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration) beautifully. Book now via our Facebook page or call 98074288 to get the full picture of what's happening in your eyes and protect them into the future!

03.01.2022 TOUGH TIMES, BUT HANG IN THERE I guess we are all fighting our own little battles with covid19. It’s been harder on some than others, as they lose their business, or their mental health suffers, or the kids are doing it tough with home school and missing important milestones, and not seeing extended family and friends. It really is a terrible time in people’s lives. But my experience with a patient today helped put a little perspective on what we are going through with the l...ockdowns. My wonderful patient, whom I have been seeing seeing here for the last 25 years shared his story with me. He was a young boy during the Second World War, in a European county that was under heavy bombing, especially from 1944 til the end of the war. He shares his memories of hiding away in dark, claustrophobic bomb shelters for hours, and even days at a time. Of not making it to the shelter in time on one particular occasion, and being stranded in the basement of a building that was struck whilst he and his family were below. Of then climbing out of the rubble to see the family home destroyed and buildings everywhere on fire. Of being separated from family, and caring for his younger siblings whilst surviving on limited food. And then, after the war, spending the next five years growing up with the rubble of the destroyed buildings as his playing fields. So hang in there. At least for another couple of weeks. Plenty have their grievances, and they are most certainly justified. But lets not waste all the effort that’s gone into suppressing this thing in a hurry right now. We’re not getting bombed. We’ve just got to wear a mask, and look after each other. Stewart

03.01.2022 The Victorian, NSW and ACT Governments have announced they are moving to shut down non-essential services. We expect more states and territories may make simila...r announcements shortly. At this point it is not fully clear what services are considered essential. We expect that initially optometry will not be able to operate, and advise practices in Victoria, NSW and ACT to prepare to shutdown from Tuesday. We are seeking clarity from Government contacts and will be advocating for approaches to enable patients to access emergency eye care and services that cannot be delayed. We are pleased to see further economic relief measures announced. The Optometry Australia team has been preparing to support you in the event of a shutdown, and further announcements from us will follow See more

03.01.2022 Wishing all our wonderful patients a very merry Christmas, and stay safe for the holidays! I’d like to also thank my amazing senior staff, our practice manager Denise, and technical guru Shaun who do such an amazing job for me. I am so grateful for the effort they put into caring for our patients, and in turn, the care they show for the business. The same applies to Peter Lewis who continues to look after patients that begun seeing his father here back in the 60’s! To Sus...an, who has only been with us for two years, but has come such a long way in the past twelve months in particular, to become such a valuable staff member. To my sister Elise who has been such a great help whilst Leanne has been on maternity leave, as well as Stephanie, our final year Optometry student who helps out on a Saturday morning and over the holidays. Special mention to my wife, Dani for all her support behind the scenes. And to Leanne- we cant wait to have you back with us! Best wishes to all Stewart McConnell See more

03.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE Lewis & McConnell responded as early as late January to the threat we are now all facing together as a community. Public health and the health of our employees is of upmost importance. As a primary care provider, we feel an obligation to continue to keep our doors open to allow us to manage your visual concerns and ocular health. The measures we have in place for sterilisation and infection control will continue so you can feel safe when attending our practice.... We also ask that anyone with a cough, fever, sore throat etc seek out the appropriate medical advice and refrain from booking non-urgent eye appointments - if urgent, please call ahead. For those wishing to order contact lenses,we can minimise the need for person to person contact via direct delivery to your home. Just give us a call and we can organise it for you. In these times, we need to stay positive and look out for each other. Take some time out with your loved ones at home, and help protect the elderly and compromised individuals most at risk to this virus! And a huge THANK YOU to the heroes without capes - our nurses and doctors and hospital staff on the front line. In the meantime, support your local butcher, bread shop, fruiterer, community chemist etc. Try to support those that are running small businesses so they can help to keep staff, and in turn, support their families!
