24.01.2022 Though there is much more to www.bailyshutingdirectory.com than just great images we thought you might enjoy today's sample from the gallery section. The first... is from the Louth in Ireland and features Mr W Henry in 1923, demonstrating that even after the life changing event of losing both legs in the War, you can still find a way to ride to hounds. 23.01.2022 The Horse Jumps Up to The Rider To explain his comment 'the horse jumps up to the rider,' the exceptional teacher and author Tom Roberts used this photo of top ...combination Jeff Evans and Cygnet Rambler - who was not an easy ride. "The horse's hind feet have just left the ground," Roberts said, "and he is in the act of thrusting forward to catch up to his rider over the jump. "The rider . . . is in full control on landing. This combination was very hard to beat. Before Geoff (sic) took him over, 'Cygnet Rambler' did some of his earlier jumping . . . under his previous owner Mr Samuel-White. He was a notorious for his buckjumping as he later became famous for his show jumping and buckjumping combined!" Photo: Mrs L Evans, 'The Chronicle', pre 1980 and used in Horse Control - The Rider by Tom Roberts #australianshowjumpers #jeffevans #cygnetrambler

21.01.2022 Leonard Bentley Flickr London Bridge This is a Magic Lantern Slide showing a London General Omnibus Company horse drawn bus on the southern approach to London ...Bridge, the road is Borough High Street with Findlater’s Corner behind the photographer. The view is looking west and from the left shows part of the railway bridge and viaduct which leads from London Bridge Station to Charing Cross and Cannon Street Stations including an early signal box. In the middle is the Dome covering Borough Market and to the right is the retrochoir of St. Saviours Church. The bus is of the knife board type which suggests that this image dates from the early 1880s, the garden seat bus superseded the Knife board by the late 1880s. The Dome was part of the 1864 improvements to the market, it was designed by Edward Habershon and was 88 feet in diameter and made of wrought iron ribs with inserts of glass and corrugated iron. The Dome was demolished in 1897 to make way for the widening of the viaduct which had been carrying trains from London Bridge to Cannon Street and Charing Cross since 1862. St. Saviours Church became Southwark Cathedral in 1905. See more

21.01.2022 The Portuguese Cavalry were also keen on Irish bred mounts and here they are dealing with a couple of banks at speed at their training camp in 1915. Note the nu...mber of greys in the image which might make the cavalry easier to see. To prevent this, as we see in the next image with the British Cavalry in an image from 1914, the solution was to ensure greys were often 'cammed up' before going into action See more

17.01.2022 We really hope you are enjoying this series. We put a lot of thought into all images and comments we post on social media and would not post anything here that ...could not be related to our primary goal which is and has always been the promotion of hunting with hounds. With that caveat, we invite you to put your 'brave pants' on and enjoy today's images. The first two images feature the Italian School of Equitation and some more of their Irish bred horses dealing with the two 'big hills' in 1915. First the slide... Then there is the 'leap' See more

15.01.2022 There are only a handful of these summer top hats known to exist. As a marker of social rules, it's fascinating that regardless of weather, it was not accepta...ble for a gentleman to be seen out of doors without his top hat . But the straw topper was at least a bit less heavy on the brow than the rigid and weighty wool felt of fur ones for other seasons. Every detail of a regular top hat has been reproduced in straw, down to the bias band that normally trims the outer edge of the hat brim.(1840-1860) See more

10.01.2022 Photography excites me most when it captures movement. This photograph is so simple.. a woman training a horse in the snow. But what movement. I can almost hear the wind in the trees. I think this was taken by French photography pioneer Felix Nadar in 1899.
