25.01.2022 Next month, the Design Institute of Australia are hosting the Dulux Australia 2021 Global Trends. Presented by Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux Group's Colour & Communications Manager, the 2021 forecast is expressed through three inspiring palettes that prioritise natural colours and textures for comfort and security, with moments of stronger colour to brighten our outlook and wellbeing. 25.01.2022 Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing something broken with gold (the philosophy is to highlight the history of an object, rather than disguise it). I'm not sure if there's enough gold to patch-up 2020! But this Kintsugi'd basketball court by artist Victor Solomon is a beautiful start. https://www.dezeen.com//victor-solomon-kintsugi-court-bas/

24.01.2022 London'ers! This running track will take you on architectural tour through the years of British modernism, brutalism, and even straight past the striking 'Claremont Estate' by architect Berthold Lubetkin. Wallpaper* magazine https://www.wallpaper.com//london-architecture-running-rou

23.01.2022 Ooh I love a trend forecast, especially when it's a list! This one is a goodie, and already underway... More flexible furniture, nature takeover and a DIY approach are already big hits in our corner of the world. Architectural Digest https://www.architecturaldigest.com//whats-next-in-design-?

20.01.2022 Coming off the back of the Dulux Australia Design Institute of Australia 2021 Trend Forecast last week, these palettes perfectly echo what Dulux presented. Welcome back salmon & teal, it's been a while! Architectural Digest https://www.architecturaldigest.com//this-project-will-con

18.01.2022 We stayed at the Parkroyal Pickering in Singapore a couple of years ago and it's a really nice hotel. Interestingly though, I never really realised when I was checking in that it was THIS hotel, the one with the massive terraced gardens. The exterior is really striking, but interestingly it doesn't translate through to the interior, so it's almost like staying in two different hotels. Sometimes the book doesn't match the cover. 17.01.2022 To all the designers, tinkerers, the creative engineers, the noodle'rs, the problem-solvers, the thinkers and the tweakers... Happy Industrial Design Day! And thank you, we could never have gotten this far without you and your inquisitive minds. https://wdo.org/program//world-industrial-design-day-2020/

17.01.2022 Even though Melbourne's in some pretty heavy times at the moment, it's nice to know fun and flippancy is still being had somewhere. 16.01.2022 This made me smile because it's true, humans love humans. I don't think working remotely will be our new normal for long. " ...everybody will remote everything. Guess what: Everyone hates to do this. Everyone. Hates. You know why? Theres no energy. Energy, attitude and personality cannot be remoted through even the best fiber optic lines." - Jerry Seinfeld. https://www.nytimes.com//jerry-seinfeld-new-york-coronavir

16.01.2022 Are you a design student looking to find out the nitty gritty before you graduate? On June 30, The Design Institute of Australia Student Council are hosting 'Ask Me Anything', a live online event. 16.01.2022 By 2030, IKEA have committed to leaving the linear design business model behind to shift to becoming a circular business model. Between now and then, they'll be examining all of their 10,000 products to investigate how they can be designed to circular principles, focusing on sustainable solutions with their manufacturing and materials. Pretty amazing stuff. Dezeen https://www.dezeen.com//ikea-coronavirus-ellen-macarthur-/

15.01.2022 Emanuele Pizzolorusso, with Palomar Design, have designed this little beauty - The City Radio. It's a mix of old school, super-satisfying analogue buttons to push (no digital screen) and great tech that lets you program each button with radio stations from around the world. 15.01.2022 Did you know Melbourne used to be called Smellbourne 120 years ago? Our sewerage systems were inadequate, typhoid was breaking out everywhere, and it forced the city's hand to develop underground drainage systems. Fast forward to now and it's exciting design is front and centre in the conversation for how we create cities with space for us all to live in at a safe distance. 13.01.2022 It's a funny world. While our kids are becoming more grown-up by the second with mobile phones and Uber accounts, our grown-ups are becoming more child-like with soft-form, (electric) wooden scooters. 12.01.2022 Marrying the old with the new in architecture is never easy - do you try to blend the two structures with historical nods each other? 11.01.2022 Fancy. The new Aesop store, designed by architecture studio Al-Jawad Pike, has just opened in Westfield London Shepherd's Bush. The soothing, monochromatic tones have been used to offer shoppers a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the shopping centre. Looks pretty chilled to me. 11.01.2022 Chris and I normally err on the side of minimalism, but we both have our soft spots for the detailed. Chris' is Gaudí and mine is Murano glass. It's so ornate and frilly, I'm almost repulsed by it, but then the light shines through it, the colours light up and I'm entranced. 10.01.2022 I saw the headline, and I barely get it, but I do like the idea of buildings being covered in plants. MVRDV's Winy Maas suggested Hong Kong (I think Singapore would be a goodie too) to try it out. Aside from the mind-bending idea of designing a new planet, the comments at the end are particularly funny too. Dezeen https://www.dezeen.com//design-more-planets-winy-maas-mvr/

07.01.2022 Love it or hate it, brutalism is always eye-catching. Cobe Architects and Arup Engineering have unveiled the new Metro station at the Copenhagen Docklands. From Dezeen: "The elevated station is supported on a central concrete column and two triangular concrete supports that continue around the station's platforms to enclose the raised building. Described by Cobe as "concrete claws", these forms and the aluminium platform building were derived from its location in the working ...harbour and the cranes and shipping containers that can be found nearby." https://www.dezeen.com//cobe-and-arup-unveil-elevated-met/

07.01.2022 I did not see this coming. Viktor&Rolf's autumn/winter collection, 'Change', has taken inspiration from the corona virus lifestyle we're living now. There's three wardrobes for three mindsets we're feeling, despair, optimism and love. Call me a cynic, but I particularly like the social-distancing inspired, spike-covered coat. 05.01.2022 Sounds like a pretty accurate forecast; companies that can switch to being a frictionless transactions will have the edge. 04.01.2022 As Melbourne's lockdown drags on, taking flights of fancy to look at OS property seems to go higher up my list of things to do each day. Here's Elton John's house, it's pretty bloody fabulous... Architectural Digest https://www.architecturaldigest.com//elton-john-david-furn

03.01.2022 I have spent a lifetime avoiding sticky fingers on walls, but turns out there's a new wallpaper range coming that encourages touch. Due to the pandemic, its launch is delayed until next year, but in our current state of 'don't touch anything', I suspect touch is what we'll crave most. 03.01.2022 I know we're in our 1000th day of lockdown so Zoom calls ain't new news. But still, I think it never hurts to look fabulous on a call. WIRED even makes a point about letting your family know if you're on an important call so they don't interrupt. We have a rule with Isla, she knows she can interrupt for two reasons: if she's on fire, or if she's bleeding profusely. Otherwise it is silencio! https://www.wired.com//how-to-make-video-calls-look-and-s/

02.01.2022 I love the design of these chairs, but not sure how comfortable they'd be? Might be a good option for Xmas Day seating where you don't want anyone settling in for a snooze after lunch! Dezeen | MUT Design https://www.dezeen.com///10/mut-design-roll-chairs-sancal/

01.01.2022 I could wax lyrical about this for days - but, in a nutshell, as much as I love working from home, I know eventually I will need to go back out to working from a studio again. Getting out into the world, feeling the push and pull of everyone's energy, meeting/collaborating with clients, suppliers and other designers, is what wakes up my creativity and gets me thinking sideways. https://www.architecturaldigest.com/s/end-of-office-culture

01.01.2022 When Michael Jordan signed with Nike in 1984, they projected USD$3m in sales of Air Jordan shoes in the first four years of the deal. They ended up selling USD$126m in the FIRST year alone. With those mind-blowing figures, it gives some scale to the prices those shoes are now fetching at auction. Christie's are currently selling a selection of the original Nike Air collection, worn by Jordan throughout his career. Prices range from USD$6K - USD$850K for a pair. In case you want a part of history, there's 12 hours left to bid... https://www.christies.com//Original-Air-Michael-Jordan-Gam
