At 98 studs long over the buffers, ...this is the longest Lego loco I have built. The locomotive: First entering service in 1952, 42 of these locomotives were built for the standard gauge New South Wales Government Railways. They were the most powerful steam locos to operate in Australia. Built with a light axle load, they were intended for branch line goods trains. Subsequently 30 locos had their tractive effort increased for main line use (denoted by the ++ next to the number) and received dual controls (‘DC’). Four have been preserved, with one recently restored to operating condition. The model: This was a somewhat rushed build over two weeks. I was inspired to build it when I saw Erik’s digital build of a Zimbabwe Garratt. In O-scale, the build worked out to be 98 studs long. I went for 8/9 studs wide which I think is fairly accurate based on photos (the plans I was working from only show the side elevation). I tried to keep the build legal, and succeeded except for the rods and valve gear! I tried using multiple lift arms for the rods, which would have worked, but it looked too bulky. The model is powered by two XL motors (geared up). The rear bunker also houses the battery box and IR receiver. It also has working head and marker lights. The loco negotiates standard curves surprisingly easily given its length, but then again, tight curves are what Garratts are designed for. Thanks to Ryan for the use of his vinyl cutter.(Additional photos and video still to come.) See more

03.01.2022 Criminal Scumbags have attacked a good group of people in the UK. Keep an eye out for people trying to fence the sets they've stolen. The criminal scumbags may try to use online channels to sell the sets.
