19.01.2022 Fredback from this week’s online session. I just did the Indigenous LGBTIQ+SB suicide prevention training and it has given me a drive to do more. I currently hold the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander portfolio and identify as Aboriginal and I identify as a member of queer mob. I am asking if we could work together and organize some more training for myself and my co-workers. The more training we could get for staff would be great. Especially in regards to Indigenous LGBTIQ+SB communities as there is nothing like that down here. I hope to hear from you soon. Was deadly having the privilege of doing the training yesterday. Black Rainbow and yourself are doing AMAZING work. I would also like to acquire as much resources from use as possible, posters, flyers, information etc.

13.01.2022 To coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day #WSPD2020 activities globally, I be offering an online an introduction to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous Australian) LGBQTI+SB suicide prevention. Tix on sale soon. In this session I will highlight why this particular marginalised group is at a heightened risk of suicide, looking at risk factors that are specific to Indigenous and LGBTIQ+ people independently and explain how these intersect. Also shared will be ...the birthing of my body of work that began while working in remote Indigenous communities and being Indigenous and gay working the front-line in suicide prevention. I will discuss the how my report 'Voices of the Black Rainbow' and my first of its kind Indigenous Queer Cultural Competency training Inclusive Practices - developed in 2015 - has been a catalyst for three research projects currently underway that focus on the Indigenous LGBQTI+SB. Personal insight will also be shared into what it is to be Indigenous and Queer working across mainstream, Indigenous and LGBTIQ+ sectors, the challenges and wins, and the work that is still needed to be done. Tix on sale soon. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/indigenous-lgbtiqsb-suicide-pr
12.01.2022 Had the absolute pleasure to deliver a one hour Indigenous youth tailored version of ‘An introduction to Indigenous Australian LGBQTISB suicide prevention.’ to the national network of ‘@headspace_aus schools’ staff. Here’s an overview of the content https://www.eventbrite.com/e/indigenous-lgbtiqsb-suicide-pr# Comments and feedback:... So many deep and wide considerations for all intersecting identities and experiences. How can we through our work in headspace Schools raise our skills, awareness, voice and advocacy for individual young people who identify across multiple ways of being? Such an incredible presentation. Thank you so much for bringing this to us, I really appreciate your insights, passion and dedication in this space. So valuable thankyou Thank you so much - I got so much out of this and have been left with so much to consider. Fantastic presentation about such an important topic - so much to think about and consider - huge thanks to you!

10.01.2022 The workshop. The workshop has been created by Indigenous Human Rights Award recipient and founder of Black Rainbow, Dameyon Bonson. Dameyon is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gay male and has been working the front-line in remote Indigenous communities for the past 7 years. Dameyon developed this workshop after years working at the frontline in suicide prevention and recognising a significant gap in service delivery across the suicide prevention, mental health and ...social and community sectors. This is a grass roots informed workforce capability workshop. Dameyon’s credibility statement is attached. He currently lives and works in the Northern Territory and is a post graduate student of suicide prevention. The workshop has been delivered to over 300 frontline workers in WA, SA and the NT. NT participant - "I very much appreciated the combination of lived experience and strong theoretical knowledge. It was powerful !" 08.01.2022 New research from the US, emphasises that social support from family, friends, and LGBTQ-affirming spaces saves young Black LGBTQ lives. Recommending an intersectional approach to mental health and confront systemic barriers to be taken. Drawing on my lived experience I created the Inclusive Practices workshop for Indigenous LGBTIQSB Suicide Prevention (SP) to do just that. This was 5 years ago. It was the first of its kind, and is the only program offered nationally. Later ...this month I hope to announce contract to educate an address 120 practitioners in SP; Taking the total nations numbers to 700. Zero government funding to develop.
