The four themes of IAD are: Advocacy Celebration... Education Solidarity These themes highlight the aims of recognising and enabling the work that the international ace community and organisations do, particularly in non-Western and/or non-English speaking countries. They encourage anyone who identifies under the ace umbrella to participate in IAD, particularly but not exclusively in non-anglophone and/or non-Western countries. Participation could be as simple as sharing a post on social media, but there are also organisations all over the world who are holding events, running campaigns and supporting causes. 11.01.2022 Got a feeling that someone you know or care about it isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it. Call our FREE Counselling Service to speak to us 08 8944 7777. By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can follow our conversati...on steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask. #RUOK #lgbtilivingwell

10.01.2022 How about some positivity for trans people in society? Over the past 18-24 months, trans people have been portrayed in a negative light by many sections of local and international communities, and media outlets have jumped on the bandwagon to fuel the negativity and hatred. Much of the commentary has been directed towards children and adolescents who are affirming their gender, even with their parents’ supports. The problem with this type of commentary is that erases the ...positive lived experiences and the voices of trans people. As trans people negotiate affirmation of their gender, the four aspects of self (personal, social, medical and legal), need a voice to navigate that affirmation. The intersection of the personal, social, medical and legal selves signifies the complex everyday existence of trans people as they attempt to lead a life that strives to be unremarkable but is socially constructed as remarkable. So, don’t talk about trans people, talk to trans people; you might just learn how unremarkable we are. #LGBTILivingWell #Trans101 #NTAHC

06.01.2022 TRANS DAY OF REMEBRANCE My name is Jasmine Iman Lee, 23 years of age; assign male at birth I was born in 1997. I grew up in a small remote town that goes by the name Halls Creek, my ethnicity is mix Aboriginal; growing up as a child especially coming from an Indigenous cultural background it was forbidden for someone as myself, who identify as a feminine boy known as (Mung-a-roo) term very offensive, was not allowed to being around other kids they assumed that it was cont...agious. Being young I never seen the bad in the world I could not even see it in myself as time pass by, I was vulnerable also confuse I felt left out so I wanted to fit in, even in school there is a society, a group of perfectness, where I was challenged each day of my life. Me personally I have never experienced any loss of a loved one that identified as LGBITQ community, knowing what goes on in the world we live in hearing how transgenders have lost their life to violence, man slaughter, when I scroll through the internet there's always headlines about transgenders being beat up, shot to death, I can't imagine in that moment not being able to say goodbye to their love one how scared it would have been for those girls who have left this world, the life they had, loved ones they left without say goodbye. #NTAHC #TDOR #LGBTIlivingwell

02.01.2022 COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on everyone. I just wanted to draw your attention to a survey that has just been launched on the impact of COVID-19 on LGBTIQ+ people, aged 60 or over, living in Australia. Why focus specifically on older LGBTIQ+ people for this study? Doesn't COVID-19 affect everyone the same way? Well, here's why. There is very good quality international and Australian research that demonstrates that older LGBTIQ+ people (in general although noting varia...tions between these groups) experience significantly higher rates of mental health conditions (such as depression and anxiety) than the general population. They also experience higher levels of loneliness and are more likely to live alone. Older LGBTIQ+ people are less likely to have adult children to support them in older age, and are often more likely to be supported by friends and friendship networks than non-LGBTIQ+ older people. Many have also experienced discrimination and stigma across the lifespan, as well as developed strengths and resilience through managing challenging life circumstances and forging strong connections to community. All of this suggests that older LGBTIQ+ people may experience the impact of COVID-19 differently from non-LGBTIQ+ people. We know they access support and services differently from the general population so it is important to develop supports and resources that are targeted to their needs. #LGBTILivingwell #NTAHC #LGBTIelders
