24.01.2022 The Taronga Wildlife Hospital treats more then 1,400 patients each year, but it’s not every day we receive a critically endangered Swift Parrot all the way from... Lord Howe Island. This is the remarkable tale of ‘Houdini’, the Swift Parrot, who ended up in our care after it was blown more than 570km off course in recent storms. Thanks to the assistance of the Lord Howe Island Board and BirdLife Australia, the waylaid parrot was nursed back to health before it was released alongside a group of wild Swift Parrots in Werakata State Conservation Area. 18.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE Friday 31 July 2020 Confirmation has just been received that the Minister for Health has signed a new Public Health Order (No.3) for Lord Howe Island. The Order will effectively continue restrictions on travel to the island until 31 August. Details will be further confirmed when the Order is able to be viewed. However, it is apparent that:... - Persons wishing to access Lord Howe Island will continue to need approval and will be subject to quarantine in the same fashion as has applied up until now. - Those arriving before 31 August will need to complete their full 14 days quarantine effectively meaning that some people’s quarantine will continue until 14 September. Both Qantas and Eastern Air Services have been waiting to hear news and will be managing how to deal with those who have booked flights who might not be now able to arrive on-island. If you have any questions please contact myself, Justin Sauvage or the Lord Howe Island Police officer, Heath Roberts. Yours Sincerely, Peter Adams CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER DATE: 31 July 2020
15.01.2022 WOOLWORTHS ORDERING ISSUE Woolworths have contacted the Board to advise that apparently there was a technical issue with some customers not being able to finalise their orders on Friday evening. In response Woolworths are opening a special window around 12:30pm today (Monday 20 April) until 11pm tonight so that anyone that experienced issues is able to get their order in. We offered to let people know because it will have been three weeks between Island Trader voyages and due to item limits, some people may need to be able to get their orders in rather than wait until the following voyage.
12.01.2022 Lord Howe Island Board FRIDAY 1 MAY 2020 COVID-19 CHANGE TO VISITATION RULES... A change to the movement restrictions for NSW including Lord Howe Island takes effect from today. As from Friday 1 May, up to 2 adults and their dependent children are allowed to visit another household. Full details including some questions and answers can be found at the following link: NSW Health Two Person Visitation Rule However, some key points are listed below. It is important to note that this change does not apply to those in their 14 day quarantine period. Even though visits to households (not in quarantine) are allowed, you will still need to practice social distancing and good personal hygiene by washing your hands thoroughly when you arrive. Take extra care when visiting vulnerable people. COVID-19 presents a more serious risk to a range of people including those 70 years of age or older, those over 65 with chronic medical conditions, and those with a compromised immune system. No other change has occurred and the new two person visitation rule has been introduced to help reduce social isolation and improve mental health. NSW Health advise that you may visit another person’s place of residence if: 1. there are only one or two adult visitors, and 2. you are providing care or support. The two visitors can be from separate households. There is no daily limit to how many visitors you can have over in a day, just a limit to how many people can visit you at any one particular time A visitor does not include a child who is a dependant of an adult visitor, or a person who otherwise has a reasonable excuse to be there, such as a tradesperson. This change does not mean that you can have a party at home. Only two adults and their children may visit another household. If you have any questions please look at the NSW Health link above or contact the Lord Howe Island Police officer, Heath Roberts.
12.01.2022 Biosecurity Notice - Australia Post Mail The biosecurity team is requesting that all residents who receive any Australia Post mail or freight carefully inspect the packaging and contents of all post for any rodent sign. Routine biosecurity inspections carried out on MV Island Trader freight have resulted low levels of rodent sign being found in association with Australia Post freight.... Searches revealed two rodent scats due to the likely age of the scats, they are unlikely to be indicative of a live rodent being present on the vessel or currently associated with the freight. Routine and extra search activities which were immediately implemented after finding this sign have not provided reason to believe a live rodent is present on the vessel, LHI wharf area, or freight. As a precaution LHIB biosecurity officers will be conducting extra detection dog searches and monitoring activities associated with the vessel, wharf, and post office. The biosecurity team is requesting that all residents who receive any Australia Post mail or freight carefully inspect the packaging and contents of all post for any rodent sign. This may include: - Chew/gnaw marks - Footprints - Scats/faeces and urine stains If you suspect that you have found any potential rodent sign: - Do not disturb the area please minimise touching/interacting with or moving any damage/sign to preserve it. - Take photos of the sign. - Immediately contact the biosecurity team on [email protected] or 6563 2066 Although this is a very low risk event, we are requesting your assistance to ensure that all mail items are properly inspected. The biosecurity team will be conducting extra monitoring activities and checks to ensure the most thorough investigation is conducted.
11.01.2022 Some answers to general questions on COVID-19
11.01.2022 As of 22nd March all arrivals to Lord Howe Island returning from COVID-19 positive areas have entered into a mandatory 14 day quarantine period before resuming regular social-distancing regulations. As we better understand where our vulnerabilities lie with relation to COVID-19, we continue to review practices and quarantine directions ensuring they are in line with both the health risk posed by COVID-19 and NSW regulations. The quarantine information provided to arrivals has been updated to stress the importance of the restrictions and use some examples to assist in making the message clearer.
06.01.2022 COVID-19 - COMMUNITY SURVEY https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LHIB_COVID-19 COVID-19 and the subsequent NSW Health Order has had a significant impact on LHI. The LHI Board understands the strain that it has caused the island community both socially and economically. We ask all members of the community to complete a voluntary survey so that we can better understand community preparedness for opening.... While it is important for us to capture this information, the decision to extend or cease the current NSW Health Order is at the discretion of the NSW Health Minister and based on advice received by NSW Health.
03.01.2022 Tighter requirements for gatherings and social distancing You may have heard the Prime Minister last night talking about the new more stringent requirements for gatherings and social distancing. It is important to note that NSW requirements apply to Lord Howe.... We are seeking to clarify exactly what this means for Lord Howe and aim to communicate this with you in our next Householder (scheduled for tomorrow).
