25.01.2022 In this video I'm going to be discussing one exercise commonly butchered in the gym ... Leg Extensions! This is one of the more popular machines yet people use a whole host of techniques, most of which could be far more effective. Even though this is a machine exercise you still need to work hard to control your movement. Keep the hips as still as possible by using the handles and pull them hard and stay super tight through your core. And if you've got a seat belt on the mach...ine as well, use the belt as well. In this exercise, the top of the exercise is the hardest part and that's where the quads are working in the shortened range. I recommend spending a bit of time here as you get to the top. 20.01.2022 I've been putting a few posts on recently on what I do with my clients on goal setting, and it's no different for you. The first thing is to establish what you want to achieve and then why you want to achieve it. Why do you want to lose weight or gain muscle? Once you've got the "what" and the "why," you need to establish when you're going to achieve it by. Set a time limit on the goal.... Establish a process of how you're going to get there. If it's fat loss you want, you're looking at between 0.5kgs & 1kg loss per week on average for most people, which is a healthy fat loss. Then establish a process of how you going to get there and what is going to fit to suit your lifestyle? Is it going to be three to four exercise sessions a week? Is it going to be increasing your step count and slightly reducing your calories? Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone, achieve your goals & get into the best shape of your life? 17.01.2022 Here’s a quick video for those of you who want to Increase Muscle Mass. With NUTRITION you want to be in a CALORIE SURPLUS or at least at maintenance calories, and eating high protein foods at regular intervals throughout the day (approx every 4 hours). With TRAINING there are THREE MAIN PRINCIPLES for increasing muscle mass.... The first one is MECHANICAL TENSION. Lifting a weight that's heavy for you and forcing yourself to work hard. The second one is TIME UNDER TENSION. Make sure that the muscle is working for a long period of time. Usually, people employ slower eccentrics which is when the muscle is being stretched to increase time under tension. The third way is METABOLIC STRESS OR THE PUMP working high reps to get that pump we all love I'm going to give you three videos in the coming days on different examples of creating mechanical tension, time under tension, and also metabolic stress. 16.01.2022 So often it's the most simple exercises in the gym that I see being butchered. This week the exercise technique focus is the leg extension. The key focus of this exercise is the extension of knee which is controlled by the quads. The key elements to focus on: Keep your core tight and press your back against the back pad THROUGHOUT the ENTIRE movement Keep the hips as still as possible Use the handles and pull them hard and if available on the machine use a seatbelt acro...ss your hips Focus on the extension of the knee and control the top of the movement where the tension is greatest on the quads Need some guidance to get the BEST results for your effort in the gym? 13.01.2022 One thing a lot of my clients get wrong is staying up too late and not getting enough sleep! Don't let your mind bully you ... Sleep's a massive factor when it comes to health, fitness, and body composition. You need to have plenty of sleep. Between seven and nine hours per night to effectively recover both mentally and physically to get the best out of the following day.
