24.01.2022 Have finally moved a desk, chair & light into my she-shed. There's even still room for a spot of yoga. Getting myself organised.

22.01.2022 Sitting in a sunny spot, learning stuff.

20.01.2022 This is dreadful but sadly typical. NSW risks being the only Australian state without a dedicated writers’ organisation as Writing NSW loses its funding. Sydney 10 August: The future of Writing NSW is at risk, leaving thousands of writers without financial support or access to an extensive range of online courses, events and networking opportunities in the midst of a global pandemic....Continue reading

20.01.2022 Absolutely fascinating.

20.01.2022 Today I had an opportunity to submit to an agent. I dusted off a PB I've been sitting on for a while & pared it right back to 460 words & sent it out. I love the feeling of accomplishment coupled with possibility. I vow to enjoy this feeling. It's part of the journey. Nothing may happen except some feedback but today, right now, it feels good.

19.01.2022 What a great resource for writers!

19.01.2022 As usual, great tips from Jen Storer! Don't miss her new series of videos. This first one is all about voice.

18.01.2022 Now this is very funny. Do read the 'poem'...

16.01.2022 Today, as part of my research for my adult fiction novel, I get to sink into some women's fiction set in the same period in order to get me thinking and feeling the time, language and scenes. This is the easy bit!

13.01.2022 Suffering from imposter syndrome? Here's some great advice.

13.01.2022 Would be lovely to stay in some of these.

13.01.2022 This song actually makes an appearance in (the 1st draft at least) of my adult fiction novel, which begins in 1990. 30 years ago today it was released and I listened to it on my walkman all over England and Europe.

12.01.2022 What a busy submissions day I've had. 'Vegies are Revolting!'; 'Grandad's Lost Laugh'; 'The Tortoise's Gift'; and 'Amethyst Adventure' have all been submitted to Walker Books Australia for #walkerwednesday! All my fingers and toes are crossed.

10.01.2022 Studying creative writing with Fiona McIntosh in my shed today. Oscar keeping me company.

08.01.2022 A reminder to everyone that applications close in 2 days for the Faber Writing Academy at Allen and Unwin Scholarships. I just submitted mine and I've got everything crossed! #wanttowin

07.01.2022 Structure, plotting etc. I've been trying to plan my new story and have a vague idea of what will happen when but as soon as I started writing a new character popped up that I just know will be important. How do planners deal with that?

06.01.2022 If Shakespeare could talk to us now. Hilarious.

06.01.2022 For all my kidlit friends, there would have to be some crazy inspiration amongst these images!

05.01.2022 I love this. So funny. On a deeper level though, if you had to plot your life the way you would your novel, where are you at now? I reckon I'm in book 5 working toward my inciting incident.

04.01.2022 I cried when I saw this desk in person... This small, unassuming, 12-sided walnut table was where Jane Austen wrote Emma, Mansfield Park and Persuasion and revised Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey. Today, the table sits in the dining parlour, by the window, where we know Jane wrote. For so many, this is the highlight of their visit to Jane Austen’s House. Although most can’t believe how tiny it is! ... Book your visit and view this extraordinary treasure for yourself: https://bit.ly/2DEkFre

02.01.2022 Spent the morning with my friend Bronwyn MacRitchie writer, celebrating the publication of her memoir Pixie Dust. We spent a couple of terms at The Creative Wordshop workshopping the manuscript and I can't wait to read it all together. A fabulous story about growing up in a fractured family in outback NSW in the 50s. https://www.bronwynmacritchie.com.au
