20.01.2022 Could you spare 5 minutes? Our fight to save BAAG continues! Making an online submission in response to the Environmental Effects Statement (EES) is the next im...portant step in our fight to save BAAG from being taken out by the North East Link Project. Submissions are open to the public and it would really help us if as many of you as possible could submit a story of what BAAG means to YOU and why you think it is important we remain here. Submissions can be as short as just a few lines (or up to 500 words if you like!) and are due by 5pm this Friday the 7th June. Submissions can be made at: https://engage.vic.gov.au/north-east-link-project The EES covers the vast majority of the impacts that the project and the associated construction will have on everything... from the impact to the region’s ecology, to the impacts on local businesses and the community. If you would like to make submission but need a bit of guidance on what to include, we have set up a webpage that we are sharing with our staff, customers and the general public at: http://www.baag.com.au/save-baag-north-east-link/. This page covers some of the things we will be including in our submission, feel free to use any part/s of it you like. Many thanks, Bruce, Meredith, Paul and all the staff at BAAG!
20.01.2022 Crown shyness is a naturally occurring phenomenon in some tree species where the uppermost branches in a forest canopy avoid touching one another. The visual ef...fect is striking as it creates clearly defined borders akin to cracks or rivers in the sky when viewed from below. Although the phenomenon was first observed in the 1920s, scientists have yet to reach a consensus on what causes it. According to Wikipedia, it might simply be caused by the trees rubbing against one another, although signs also point to more active causes such as a preventative measure against shading (optimizing light exposure for photosynthesis) or even as a deterrent for the spread of harmful insects. 17.01.2022 City of Yarra Council is 1st to lock in a steam weeding contract! City of Yarra has become the first Victorian Council to commit to a steam weeding contract. Af...ter a lengthy tender process we are all very excited to inform you officially that we have won a tendered contract for steam weed management at the City of Yarra up until 2023. The areas are comprised of the most sensitive regions around schools, day care, maternity healthcare centres and kindergartens. We are very proud to be awarded this tender and thank all of the staff at Weedsteamers and the City of Yarra who worked so hard to make this happen. City of Yarra's commitment lets us consolidate our business and invest in developing even better urban steam weeding technology which will ultimately help all of us move away from toxic herbicides. Let's hope that this is the definitive proof needed to convince other councils that this is a cost effective, viable alternative to toxic chemical dependant weed management! If you are interested it costs less than $1 per year, per resident in the City of Yarra to achieve this fantastic outcome. Thanks again City of Yarra. P.S. Anyone out there in the media I think they deserve some very good P.R.
13.01.2022 How interesting!
12.01.2022 Details details details. Refilling codling moth traps with water. Every time you can do something a few seconds faster multiplied by 100 or 1000 it adds up. The... yellow codling moth trap is right. The refill hole is on the same side as the fluid level window, allowing a quick fill up while seeing the level added. The grey trap has the hole on the wrong side so you have to hold the container to fill up. Little details like this add up in a day. What can you change to shave time off a task for the life of the orchard or garden?
