22.01.2022 We are thankful to have Doug Hall joining us at LibertyFest Perth 2019! Doug Hall is an Industry Development Specialist. Trained as a botanist, plant biochemist and molecular biologist, he has spent the last 23 years exploring the challenges of industry development as an academic researcher, R&D consultant, and industry development professional working with a diverse range of businesses, industries, not-for-profits and government organisations. Doug believes that the fusion... of theory with real world experience is absolutely critical to developing pragmatic and feasible solutions. Along his professional journey, he has acquired additional experience, perspectives and competency in strategic policy and advocacy, stakeholder engagement and management, the modern management ‘toolbox’ and public sector and not-for-profit governance. While Industry Development Manager for Irrigation Australia and the Waste Management Association of Australia in Western Australia, Doug felt compelled to ask simple but deep questions about the nature of markets, ‘market failures’, and why governments and the public feel the need for non-market solutions for water and waste. Pursuit of answers led to a wonderful discovery of Hayek, Buchanan, Coase, Friedman (and many others) and the seminal work on free market environmentalism by Terry Anderson and his colleagues at the Property and Environment Research Centre (PERC). This personal professional and intellectual journey has led to Doug’s current role as Policy Director for Pastoral, Property Rights and Resources at the Pastoralists and Graziers Association of WA (PGA; a rare industry peak body that openly espouses free markets, property rights and liberty). Doug’s daily companions are Hayek, Coase and Buchanan in the development of policies that challenge the prevailing paradigm of increasing government intervention in the market place. From there she has worked tirelessly to promote intellectual diversity, defend free speech and call out unjust policies on university campuses. She has made multiple appearances on prominent media platforms including: The Bolt Report, The Project, Triple J’s Hacked, Miranda Devine Live and even the popular American online show ‘Louder with Crowder’. 14.01.2022 We are grateful to have Mark Hutchison joining us at LibertyFest Perth 2019! Mark is a passionate humanitarian, businessman and father who has dedicated much of the last 10 years to building awareness for the catastrophic human rights crime of medical genocide in today’s China. From the perspective of building businesses with a communist country that deems him an enemy of the state, Mark can share first-hand experiences of the effects of a loss of liberty and the influence of... communism in Australia. Career entrepreneur and proud Western Australian, Mark grew up in country WA before moving to Perth where he has worked and built businesses in multiple industries, including horticulture, forestry, manufacturing, publishing, performing arts and the building industry. Mark’s first big break came at the age of 27, when he built his first multi-million-dollar company Bamboozle from his living room with a mere $20,000. By 30, he had shaped Bamboozle to become a market leader in bamboo flooring. Mark is now putting that same energy into his latest creation Lifewood a luxury timber flooring business that manufactures and installs his own patented, designer timber flooring range. Mark will share his unique journey from entrepreneurship and illness, to Falun Gong and health, to then the world of human rights advocacy with personal accounts along the way from the real threat of communism’s spread.
