20.01.2022 An article about the Liberal Friends of Israel on Channel 20 news (Israel). Thanks to Channel 20 news for the cooperation. This is the translation of the article to English: Members of the leading party in the Australian government: we will continue to fight against anti-Semitism... Members of the parliament said to channel 20 that there was a high increase of anti-Semitism incidents in the country but the impact of the BDS movement lacks mainstream legitimacy Due to the growing number of anti-Semitic incidents in the world over the past year, including in Australia, Australian MPs from the leading party - the Liberal Party said to Channel 20: "We will continue to fight anti-Semitism and all forms of racism throughout Australia." The member of the Victorian parliament David Southwick addressed the increased of anti-Semitism incidents in his country and said that according to the report of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, in 2018 there was a 59% increase in anti-Semitic incidents in Australia, compared to 2017. In addition, MP David Southwick mentioned that an elderly care facility housing Holocaust survivor was defaced with Swastika stickers and that young Jews were attacked while using public transport services. According to Southwick, neo-Nazi groups are behind these incidents. Member of the federal parliament Mr. Tim Wilson also addressed the rise in anti-Semitism, He said that the BDS movement in Australia lacks mainstream legitimacy. Therefore, in his opinion, there is no need in making a law against the BDS movement. The politicians also referred to Prime Minister Scott Morrison's statement at the end of last year that Australia recognizes West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and is considering to move the embassy to Jerusalem. "The move was a statement of strength and trust," Southwick said, adding that this was a step that demonstrates that Australia support Israel with the recognition of our government in the true capital of Israel." MP Southwick added that As a sovereign nation, Israel has the right to determine its own capital. A decision to relocate the Australian Embassy to West Jerusalem will reflect what already exists in reality. MP Wilson said that The Party believes that Israel and Australia share common values, which makes us natural allies.
