25.01.2022 THE PRIVILEGE OF EDUCATION ( An edited version of the introduction to 'The 85 Best Quotes About Education' by Steve Mueller http://www.planetofusccess.com/blog/ ) "Education truly is a privilege. With more than 70 million children around the world who have no access to primary education, it becomes obvious that not all are guaranteed the right to education. As a result, more than 700 million adults cannot read or write. Consequently, they lack the basic principles that cou...ld help them to improve their living conditions. "What happens when you deprive millions of their right to education can be seen all around the world. Poverty, trafficking, slavery, and diseases that could be avoided are often the results of a lack of education. Similarly, individuals who are illiterate are more likely to be susceptible to victimisation. "Many of us think of education as a right. However, when keeping the above figures in mind, it becomes clear that it is more than a right; it’s a privilege. At the same time, education does not stop once you’ve graduated. Instead, learning, growing, and educating yourself is a lifelong process. It will never stop. "If it’s done right, education inspires young minds to envision a brighter future. Not only that but it also gives them the necessary tools and skills to confidently make that vision a reality. "With the right education and perhaps even the right teacher or guide on your side, anything is possible. Education empowers youth and motivates them to strive to reach their full potential. Even more so, it gives young individuals the necessary skill set to address the challenges and problems of the future." See more

03.01.2022 WOMEN OF AFRICA Library Aid International plan to send their next (eighth) shipping container of used books and educational resources to Cape Town, South Africa for distribution to needy schools and a community development project. African society is largely a patriarchal one in which women are hardly praised or celebrated. While the breadwinner is often praised, the breadmaker is barely noticed.... In the following video poem, Wayne Visser honours the female folk of Africa for the several traditional roles and the numerous responsibilities they undertake. The video poem (click link) adds to the usual written poetry we are used to through the use of visual images and emphasis, tone and rhythm of the spoken word by the actual author. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p9xwOCU4VE What do you think? The video poem and the images below (paintings by Wayne) are used with permission. Wayne Visser
