08.01.2022 We've found another extremely rare plant species on Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road! This shrub is a native Citrus known as the the Russell River Lime (Citrus ino...dora). It grows as a shrub to 3m and is restricted to dense tropical lowland rainforests in two very small areas of the Wet Tropics of Queensland. One region is south of Cairns at the eastern foothills of the Bellenden-Ker range and the other in the Cow Bay Daintree lowlands. It is a relative of the better known Finger Lime of southern border districts. An interesting fact about the Russell River Lime is that ínodora refers to no-smell something that is usually highly characteristic of all Citrus species. It bears small spines along the stem and fruit reminiscent of small pale lemons. Citrus inodora is listed as being Vulnerable to extinction Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992. 03.01.2022 Mission Beach Wildcare has been involved with Marine Stranding rescues along the Cassowary Coast for many years with current members rescuing our first live tu...rtle in August 2014. Lack of respect for our waterways has led to an increase in marine life that needs rescuing, rehabilitation and also high numbers of fatalities. This has been of great concern to us and when the opportunity to apply for a Cassowary Coast Council Community Grant eventuated this year we hoped that we could make a difference that might lead to better outcomes for our marine life which should be thriving in this pristine part of the world. We have been busy producing some simple but important advice that we can all be proactive in protecting our marine environment that so many of us enjoy for leisure activities. Flyers, signs, posters, cards and magnets will be appearing around the Cassowary Coast in the near future and we ask that you read and consider your actions around our waterways to make a difference! Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre offers us our support and guidence along with our many sponsors, friends, vets, you all know who you are will thank you all soon and we would like to thank "Cassowary Coast Regional Council partnering with Community" for their support.
