07.01.2022 We have just returned from a few days at Mt Trio bush camp & caravan park adjacent to the Stirling Ranges National Park. It was devastating to see the huge area of burnt ground - basically bare earth with black sticks. Some plants have started to shoot but many have not. More than 40,000 hectares of land was burnt, which contained critically endangered species. The Stirling Ranges National Park is a biodiversity hotspot containing more than 1,500 species of flora, at least 87 of which are found nowhere else in the world. Conservationists say it could take centuries to recover. Amongst the burnt ground we found this brilliantly flowering Banksia coccinea - scarlet banksia. Please read more about the affect of the bush fires here - https://www.abc.net.au//bushfires-cause-stirling-/11844516
