25.01.2022 13 minutes and 53 seconds earth-side. . Born at home. . This little man’s birth was the fast-breaker of my covid induced birth strike.... . I hadn’t shot a birth in 8 months before his arrival, I was so ecstatic to be back in the birth space, to be at the portal of life and death, to be serving and bearing witness to another woman in her fullest power. . It’s a privilege. An honour. A gift. A blessing. . I’m always thankful. Always appreciative. Always grateful. . The trust instilled in me humbles me. The reverence for birth inspires me. The beauty always astounds me. . I’m back where I belong. 22.01.2022 If you’ve had your birth photographed by me, chances are you’ve noticed I have a thing for photographing feet and shoes in the birth space. . Often my own feet feature in overhead shots like this one and no, I don’t remove them. As like everything else that is in your birth space, I am a part of that story. . Feet to me are so significant when telling a visual birth story in still images.... . When I enter your house and see shoes by the door, I’ll take mine off and photograph it all together. Yours. Mine. Your kids. Your doula’s. Your midwifes. . In the hospital when I walk in and see shoes that have obviously been thrown off in a hurry, I photograph it. . Your feet during labour. Toes curled. Feet wrinkly from the bath. . Your feet after labour, relaxed and chilled like pictured here. . What does a birth image like this make you think or feel about this birth story? . To me, this one is super significant. I missed this birth, this powerhouse woman called me from Randwick, while she was pushing, I was in the Blue Mountains. No chance of making it. . I walked in, and saw her thongs flung off and shot her relaxed feet from above. So telling of her birth story. . . . . This week I’ll be sharing alllll of the birth details! 20.01.2022 CHRISTMAS MINI SESSIONS . Tonight at 9pm my Christmas Mini Sessions go live! . This year, the people spoke and you guys told me you wanted an Australian bush theme rather than the typical Christmas tree setup, totally my vibe!... . So I’ve decided to give you both! I’m holding minis over two separate weekends and two separate locations. . 21st and 22nd November is at a beautiful location in the Campbelltown region at a gorgeous spot with beautiful bush land and a pristine inland beach. . 5th and 6th December I’m holding indoor AND outdoor mini sessions at my home in Wentworth Falls, Blue Mountains. . Indoor I am putting a real Christmas tree in my sunroom studio setup (see first picture!) where the light is divine all day long. . Outdoor there is a beautiful bush area just 2 minute walk from my front door where I’ll be doing limited select outdoor Christmas shoots. . I can not WAIT to welcome you all into my home to do these shoots, and the place in South Western Sydney where I’m doing the November shoot is super special to me also! . 04.01.2022 Today I’m sharing a series from a beautiful and seriously powerful homebirth I attended recently. . This Mumma was set to birth at her local hospital, though she knew it didn’t feel right. She tried to get into the local Midwifery group practice program at the hospital but they turned her down. . Then COVID hit and that was enough for her to find a beautiful birth keeper in a local private midwife.... . This birth humbled me. I rocked up to their home after a night of early labouring, only for things to die down as the sun rose - as we all expected it might and as often happens. It’s instinct. . Our bodies need calm, quiet and dark and a toddler and life duties on the mind is not conducive to this for a mama on the precipice of a long journey to the birth realm. . So home I went. Another 12 ish hours went by and I got the call to return to the birth space. . I arrived and the birth team were there. Waiting, encouraging, giving space, holding space, sleeping in between. . I joined this rhythm of documenting, holding back and sleeping when I could. . The midwife draped a blanket over me at once stage and told me to rest. We both knew it would be a while. . Mumma was fighting a war, this birth demanded everything of her. We slept through her roars in the other room, she needed to work through it herself at that stage. . I woke to a change in tone, I got goosebumps when I heard the familiar low guttural and primal moans coming from the birth pool. . Nothing means more to me than sound in birth. Tell me your contraction timings, how long you’ve been labouring, how you’re handling the pain and your dilation til the cows come home - nothing signals birth is imminent like this sound. . I positioned myself by the pool and waited. . Mumma wasn’t here anymore, she was traveling dimensions, a pilgrimage to being her baby down to earth. . Baby was born into her hands. Shock, awe and disbelief soon followed. . These are the bits and pieces I observed along the way. . Births like this, women like this, they change you. .
