23.01.2022 My friend Elsa Rozanes turned 70 today and we celebrated with lunch at Stamps in Mitcham. We both had their specialty dish, pork pie with an excellent salad. Elsa could not speak a word of English when she came here in 2006 to Marry my husband’s great friend Alain. She is a professor of both French and Spanish. Apart from her charming warm Personality the reason she is so special in my life is because she has taught me to speak French. This has taken many years. But today, over lunch, we spoke French.

20.01.2022 Hallelujah! We are on the cusp Of 2021 after such a challenging 2020 snd I want to wish all My Facebook friends a Happy New Year. Covid-19, hopefully, will soon be old news so there’s no need to recall how we were tested In different ways. Instead, we can look forward to a vaccine which will eventually open up International travel once more - but not before new laws ensure international... visitors here have vaccine certificates. Meanwhile, with a smile on my face and relief in my heart, I have picked a new floral arrangement to reflect my joy st the passing of this year. Only the stocks are false...I read today that agapanthus date from 1628 when They were used in Hampton Court. My white aggies flower about a month after the blue common variety. See more

17.01.2022 What a sad few days with the deaths of two remarkable Australian women trailblazers of our time -Former Hawke era Federal Minister, Susan Ryan and our wonderful, famous chanteuse Helen Reddy, whose I Am Woman song became the anthem for a generation of Australian women - including me. There was a time when I would drive down the Old Belair Road singing at top throttle I Am Woman to psyche myself up to face yet another difficult day. Obviously, I survived and thrived. I ...interviewed Susan Ryan Once or twice but what I remember most today was a lunch at the Oxford Hotel of Australia’s high powered feminists to celebrate Sydney-based child care trailblazer Wendy McCarthy receiving an honorary doctorate from UniSA. Former GG Quentin Bryce and Susan Ryan are a few others from the federal power base all flew in from Sydney and local Powerhouses including Denise Bradley (vice chancellors of UniSA), Judith Roberts, Prue Goward and Office for the Status of women director, Carmel O’Loughlin - and me. I was Women’s News Editor of the Advertiser at the time and was delighted to be invited. What strikes me today was what a fun afternoon it was - and now 27-30 years later, that both Susan and Helen were not much older than me. See more
