21.01.2022 I attended a talk given by Julia Gillard at Adelaide University on Tuesday re: Suicide and Indigenous Australia. The stats given were sobering to say the least. Julia Gillard's presentation was, of course, brilliant, easy to follow and understand and very focused. ... I picked up many gems, one of which is in the graphic below. The perception that change is hard to achieve is pervasive; it is often perceived as a real challenge for many reasons, financial, social, psychological, cultural, if not practical. But when the heart is willing, change is possible - beginning with self, first and then the collective. The experience of Gillard's talk was brilliant! #selfempowerment #education #change #culture #mindexpanding #learning #openheart

15.01.2022 I have developed a habit where when I read a book written by an author such as Carlos Castaneda, I want to reflect internally at a later time, so I tick certain lines and go back once I have finished reading to the end. In his book "The Power of Silence" Castaneda writes about "taking a somersault into the inconceivable" which he later explains is "the act of breaking our perceptual barriers ....where perception reaches its limits". At some level, a less esoteric and perhaps... less obscure level, this describes the process of changing habits. The book continues, "There was some part of me that could transcend my rationality and understand and explain, beyond the level of metaphor, a somersault of thought into the inconceivable. The trouble was that part of me was not strong enough to surface at will". In relation to change, we use our energy to maintain the habit, the 'fixed position' rather than accomplish a shift in energy, a shift in habit. I can so easily immerse myself into his books. #selfempowerment #mindmastery #change #habit #lifechange #mindset

12.01.2022 In human behaviour, self-awareness is key to connecting with self first and then with others. Knowing yourself is more than merely understanding intellectually, your behavioural trends. It has very little to do with rationally understanding information about yourself. Reasoning yourself into new behaviour does not work; neither does rationally reasoning yourself out of unwanted behaviour.... That has implications for professional development in the workplace. It also has implications for Leadership and Leaders themselves. It has implications for relationships generally. You cannot appeal to people’s logic for them to change their behaviour. Why? Because behaviour is the expression of embodied beliefs and experiences which are incorporated and integrated neurochemically within. Research also shows that beliefs, experiences and behaviour are culturally influenced and impacted. It is true - there are many layers to each of us and how we find connection, emerges as each layer is peeled away!! #personalmastery #selfregulation #selfawareness #knowyourvalue #personalactions #leaders #workculture #selfempowerment

11.01.2022 People often talk about their ‘struggle’ to do or achieve something. What does that mean? According to the dictionary meaning, ‘Struggle’ is about things that seem absolutely necessary such as life and death or freedom. It infers conflict, challenge, battle, hardship.... It is also used about things that are not absolutely necessary but are desirable or carry with them the pleasure of ‘winning’ or achieving. So struggle conjures up a great effort of some sort. Yet, people don’t want to struggle, really; understandably so perhaps. Every ‘tip’ or ‘hack’ we read about or hear talks of making life easier, more convenient, more comfortable, offers the ‘magic’ formula, the quick fix etc. I have to ask though: Does that serve you, as an individual or us as a society? Is it worthwhile to continually ‘look’ for ease and convenience, comfort and short-cuts? Is it useful to focus only on that which will boost you up and forget about that which you need to learn more about? Is it beneficial to look for gain without pain, good without recognizing bad, fun not the disagreeable, the unpleasant, strengths without acknowledging your weaknesses easy not hard? Perhaps not. Perhaps the mark of an inspired person means to embrace both ‘sides of the coin’ with assurance and confidence as well as discipline and effort. #personalpower #habits #selfdiscipline #leadership #mastery #coaching
