15.01.2022 This "professional" bus driver has deliberately punishment passed a group of people on bikes, blasting the horn as she passed, and coming terrifyingly close to ...killing them. Make no mistake, this was mere centimetres from killing innocent human beings. If any of these riders had made even a slight deviation in their line, that would have resulted in death. This is a dual carriageway road, and there was ZERO traffic in the right lane. The bus was the only other vehicle in sight on this side of the road. There is absolutely no reason the bus driver couldnt have simply changed lanes to pass safely. No matter what you think of the riders positioning in the bike lane, or what you think of riding two abreast (its legal, get over it)...even if you think the riders are wrong...NOTHING justifies this behaviour from a driver. Especially not from someone who is trained and should know better. There is simply no excuse. No, the horn was not a friendly warning toot. The horn was deliberately sounded for maximum fright as the bus passed. Its pure luck that the fright alone didnt make any of the riders lose their balance and wind up under the wheels of the bus. When the group inevitably caught up with the bus at the lights, the driver was "laughing and clapping" at them. Let that sink in. Ventura Bus, Public Transport Victoria, the comunity expects better from your "professional" drivers. This is disgraceful. Victoria Police, Transport Accident Commission (TAC), RACV , Dan Andrews, Jaala Pulford MP this is why we need the Minimum Safe Passing Distance Legislation (MPDL) and we need it NOW. Vicroads this is why your substandard bike lanes make you culpable. #AMetreMatters Amy Gillett Foundation, Cycle, Public Transport Users Association (PTUA), Victoria, Australia, On Your Bike Blog, The Age, Timna Jacks

03.01.2022 Big shout out to this Dyson Group bus driver on route 542 yesterday at approx 6:45pm, for being a patient, courteous and thoroughly decent human being. I hate t...his hill. It feels worse than it looks, and this was towards the end of a long ride at the end of a long day at work. I knew the bus was behind me, so I moved as far left as I could through the intersection and up the hill, expecting the bus driver would want to pass. I also needed to turn right not far past the level crossing, so I needed to pull out from the curb at some point. This driver realised that the road ahead wasnt clear to change lanes, and that the visibility across the level crossing was poor. The driver backed off, waited a very good distance behind, and gave me all the space I needed to feel safe. Nobody wants to feel like theyre holding up a busload of people. I had nowhere else to go, and I was mentally freaking out a bit expecting a close pass. So its very much appreciated when drivers like this one make the effort to make vulnerable road users feel safe. If heavy vehicle drivers can do it, all drivers can. #aMetreMatters Amy Gillett Foundation Moreland City Council Transport Accident Commission (TAC) VicRoads RACV Moreland Leader Moreland Greens

02.01.2022 Helmets Below are 2 interesting graphs dealing with head injury and death. Australia is not plotted on the graph but would be at home near France. . National h...elmet laws mean we have close to 99% compliance. They show clearly where safety lays. not in mandatory helmets but in good infrastructure. We only wear helmets because cars are incredibly dangerous and cyclist are required to co - habit with them. The real safety lays in good infrastructure. See more
