25.01.2022 Visiting past projects is always worthwhile in terms of seeing how ideas stand the test of time, how materials and finishes perform, and to listen to clients speaking about their experience of a place. This gem from late 2003 - for which we won two state design awards - is performing well, looking fantastic, and has settled into its semi-rural bush setting so beautifully. And the clients still love it, after all these years. . . .... #castlemaine #castlemainelife #energyefficienthomes #sustainablearchitecture #creatingsmallerfootprints #smallerfootprint @designmatters.org.au @ Castlemaine, Victoria

24.01.2022 Gosh, haven’t visited this space for quite some time... And honestly, it felt like Insta wasn’t the place to express all that I have been feeling the last few months. But nature, as usual, provided the place of solace and wildness that met all this.... Meanwhile, our lovely clients have continued to meet us via zoom, and existing and new projects are moving ahead at Lifehouse whilst we all navigate the uncertainties. #castlemaine #castlemainelife #communityresilience

24.01.2022 Chewton, Victoria, Australia

24.01.2022 Work in progress near Ballarat... addition to a grand old dame of a farmhouse... a few fave details

24.01.2022 So many interesting networks of changes are happening as a result of the pandemic..... this story reflects a regional movement we're also currently seeing in Central Victoria. Yes, great opportunities for beautiful buildings, but also big challenges for us all regarding water and food security, the ongoing challenges of climate and ecological collapse, housing affordability etc. that are crucial to address with this shift in population.

23.01.2022 Go well out there, everybody, in this new round of lockdown restrictions. At Lifehouse, we’ll continue working on current projects, but variously from home and a reduced studio presence, to keep ourselves safe. We’ll also take time out in nature...... enjoy the small and majestic details...... plant more vegies...... and keep supporting our local community as much as possible... #castlemaine #castlemainelife #smallerfootprints #covidsafe #centralvictoria

23.01.2022 Thank you, builders! Climate emergency response appreciated.

23.01.2022 Getting into the garden has been a joy this summer after a couple of years of not having the opportunity. It’s a good reminder of the nourishing aspects of getting your hands dirty and living with plants. Studies show how getting your hands into the earth improves mental health, makes you happier, reduces stress levels etc... and eating your own home-grown veggies is so good! This eggplant is shoulder height and loving the jungle effect, with carrots, parsley, tomato and an espaliered apple all cosying up. Grow something in 2020! #greenisgood #homegrownfood

18.01.2022 It’s always great to see the form of a new building ‘finalised’ when the cladding goes on. And this little house in Chewton gave us a lovely surprise today with its new sleek black coat, with Silvertop Ash timber detail. Note the unfinished corner revealing three-layer insulation system... Looking good @edificeconstruction #energyefficienthomes #sustainablearchitecture #castlemaine #castlemainelife #gooddesignmatters #ecofriendly

17.01.2022 Incorporating natural light is a major aspect of all our project designs - the quality of light in a room has such a big impact on mood, and a sense of wellbeing (or not) living in that room... This article is a great read on the subject.

16.01.2022 Photographed our Barham house this week, good to see it looking fabulous two years down the track... Temperature in the mid-20s inside on this crisp sunny winter’s day - passive-solar design working brilliantly! Watch our website for finished pics. #sustainablearchitecture @barhamavocados #energyefficienthomes @barestonebycemintel @facades_interiors_regional_vic

16.01.2022 New website profile of our Doveton Street renovation project - a north-facing addition to a tiny miner's cottage.

15.01.2022 Oh hi! We’ve been quiet of late.... taking a bit of a social media break. But we’re back - and we’re in new digs. At @themillcastlemaine - Shed 37. It’s great, we have space to spread our creative wings again! Anyway, happy new year to all. And thanks to Brett Tully @makehousedesign for our fab new meeting table, and our friend Ray for new fitout.

14.01.2022 Revisited a great little house we designed a few years ago in Harcourt North - on the rocky northern outcrops of Mount Alexander and with spectacular views over Sutton Grange and beyond. Appreciating the joys of working with an amazing site, and great clients! #energyefficienthomes #sustainablearchitecture #castlemaine #castlemainelife #smallhouses

13.01.2022 Bones of a new Lifehouse house taking shape.... always good to see the form coming together and to see the views from windows framed (in this case, lovely vista north-east towards forest). #energyefficienthomes #castlemaine #castlemainelife #centralvictoria #sustainablearchitecture #gooddesign #smallfootprints

13.01.2022 Well-designed, energy-efficient, stable housing.... for all. This inspiring project is making in-roads to that goal. Launch Housing #endhomelessness #energyefficienthomes #sustainablearchitecture

12.01.2022 These days It can seem that recycling is down the list of things in terms of responding to the ecological crisis. And yet every small action carried out with wise intent goes a long way. That’s why we were impressed to see this social enterprise called Soft Landing.... recycling old mattresses, 75% of which go to landfill (almost 2 million every year in Australia!).... check them out. @recyclemymattress #lesswaste

07.01.2022 We’re chuffed with how this new house and carport has settled into a tricky east-facing site near Castlemaine. Cost-effective, passive-solar (7.5 stars), and a small physical footprint. Thanks @edificeconstruction #energyefficiency #sustainablearchitecture #castlemaine

07.01.2022 Weathertex modified wood boards - a combination of 97% wood dust and 3% wax (and no plastic) - on our Doveton Street renovation. Cost-effective timber cladding in a panel form... can be left natural, or as in this case, painted. Looks great. @weathertexaus #sustainablearchitecture #energyefficiency

06.01.2022 The sap is rising, and nature is calling... Time to get my hands in the earth again and plant some veggie seedlings in our new Corten steel garden beds. Spending time in nature is so powerful for settling our central nervous systems, literally bringing us back down to earth, and into our bodies... feel the feet in contact with this vast support, and breathe this fresh country air. Thanks @thecrazyplantladyofcastlemaine for the inspiration to get outside this afternoon! #sustainablearchitecture #castlemaine #castlemainelife #nature #natureasmedicine

04.01.2022 Another version of our tried-and-true small kitchen layout (it works so well!) - a la our LiFEHOUSES modular design.... Paperock tops, Blackbutt veneer cupboards, recycled Blackbutt shelves, awesome tiles from Perini. @perinitiles @paperock.au #energyefficientdesign #castlemaine #castlemainelife #centralvictoria #buildingdesign #interiordesign #ecofriendlyhome #sustainablearchitecture
