25.01.2022 Lifelong Learners will be running a creative writing workshop this winter holidays. The workshops will be run by qualified and experienced education assistant Michelle Elsey. All resources are provided and students only need to bring along a positive attitude and their lunch. Children will learn how to create detailed characters, plan an amazing adventure story and then write it! This class is all about improving language skills while having lots of fun. This is a ONE DAY workshop from 9am 4pm on Wednesday 8th July 2015. Please phone or text Michelle on 0402291181 if you would like more information.

25.01.2022 Today is the 1st of December so lots of kids are cracking open those advent calendars or chasing around looking for their elf on a shelf! A great suggestion is to "reward" with a book a day in the lead up to Christmas. I have bought all the kids in the family books this year to try and encourage the lifelong love for reading that was fostered in me when I was a little 'un.

17.01.2022 ICT in education is important and realistically, we can not avoid it. I personally feel it is often used in an ineffective or inappropriate manner which reduces students engagement both with the subject and the teacher. Now, by saying I support ICT in classrooms I certainly don't think all year 1 students need ipads for every single lesson! I can however see the benefit of using something like an interactive blog for year 12 students...so I have created one for my Year 12 Politics and Law class http://melspoliticsandlawclass.wordpress.com/

16.01.2022 I was asked the other day "what values and skills do you think a teacher must have?" which really made me pause because those are not things I ponder often these days, they are simply things I do every time I step into a learning environment. For me? Top of each list was the value of lifelong, experience based learning and the skill to develop positive relationships based on mutual respect with students. Without those relationships I can't inspire them to want to learn more a...nd question the world around them. As my colleagues like to point out...anyone who can inspire a room full of grumpy teenagers to be passionate about rocks must be doing something right :) What values and/or skills do you think teachers should have? - Mel

08.01.2022 Need a break from the kids for a day? Want them to do something fun but also educational? I am running a full day writing workshop in Vic Park from 9-4pm tomorrow, the 15th of April. Kids will participate in lots of fun vocabulary games and writing activities, plus they get to take home all their work and a lollybag at the end. Suitable for ages 7-16yrs and only $49!
