23.01.2022 And ... ACTION! Heres the picture weve been waiting for all this time. Site levelling by Nordcon Land on the morning of Wednesday, 12 September. This is the true meaning of "groundbreaking". (Photo: Arthur Coleman.)

22.01.2022 Now the bad news: despite the awe-inspiring generosity of our local community, we still cannot break ground on the build site. The last remaining obstacle is hundreds of kilometers away. You can read about it here: https://www.bordermail.com.au//life-skills-house-in-wodon/

20.01.2022 Great news just in: Brendan Gorman has donated the services of Gorman Roofing Specialists in West Wodonga, to do the complete roof installation. Thanks Brendan!

18.01.2022 The volunteer spirit is alive and well in Wodonga, and it passes from generation to generation. Here we see the fine young men of D. N. Bishop & Co, donating their time and talents to wire up the house before the bricks go on.

18.01.2022 It's been a while since the last Facebook post, and a lot has been happening, so let me catch you up real quick. Bluey & Son Bricklaying returned to donate more of their weekends, bricking up the ramp for the front entrance. Then Bluey's mate Danny --that's Danny Stevens of DT Pressure Clean-- cleaned up all the brickwork, also free of charge. B&B Joinery installed kitchen and laundry cabinetry. ... Bishops Electrical returned to complete the internal electrical fit-off, free of charge. Albury Shower Fix mudded up the wet areas, which Craig Bradfield then tiled. Sommers Flooring Xtra laid all the vinyl flooring and carpets. Regency Albury fitted sliding doors to the wardrobes. Dollar Curtains+Blinds Wodonga installed the blinds. Reliance Mechanical Services fitted reverse cycle air conditioners. JJ Brown Construction concreted the footpaths. Twin City Fencing installed boundary fencing and sliding gates. We have taken delivery of Fisher & Paykel whitegoods from Harvey Norman, with a generous discounted. Security 1 Solutions supplied and installed the alarm system, with a generous discount Fletcher Plumbing and Philip Gosbell Plumbing donated their time to install toilets, sinks, showers etc, including the rainwater tank and hot water service. D & N Painting and Maintenance Services and our own Terry Finlayson donated their time to paint the interiors, with paint donated by Wodonga Paint Place. So: are we there yet? Not yet, but we are *this* close. Just some gardening and minor tidy-ups, and then the 200 children of Belvoir Special School will have a house to call their own.

17.01.2022 On Thursday 14 March, this humongous truck came to the school bearing gifts: a complete set of wall frames and trusses for the Life Skills House. And I do mean "gifts". The timber was a 100% donation from Hyne Timber, the fabrication of the frames and trusses was a 100% donation from Border Truss and Frame, and the transport was a 100% donation from M&K Oates Transport Pty Ltd. How lucky are we to be in an area with local businesses like this? Huge thanks!

15.01.2022 Sorry to be posting out of sequence, but Saturday, 9 Feb was an important moment. That was when Colombera Construction and Grants Concreting worked tirelessly from dawn into the afternoon, pouring more than sixty cubic metres of concrete from ten trucks, to make the slab on which the house is now being built. Baxters Concrete donated half the concrete, and the other half was paid for by Joss Group. So thats four more heroic local businesses that deserve our heartfelt thank...s: Colombera Construction Grants Concreting Baxters Concrete Joss Group

15.01.2022 The Life Skills House spent the last two weekends getting plastered, and weve got photos to prove it. :) So many thanks to Keating Plasterers, for donating all the materials, and to our incredible local plastering fraternity for donating their time. Thats Brad, Jimmy, Cody, Dan, Josh, Dean, Victor, and of course Richard Keating himself -- plus the legendary Neil Keating. Great work!

15.01.2022 On Friday it was the Rotarians turn to get our hands dirty. Twelve of us spent the morning installing windows, wrapping the house with sisalation, adding details to the carpentry of the wall framing, and tidying up the site in preparation for the next big stage: bricks!

15.01.2022 *Huge* thanks to the boys from Fletchers Plumbing! They gave up their Saturday and worked in near 40-degree heat to install the pre-slab plumbing. The next step is boxing, and then pouring the concrete slab. Stand by for updates.... Its coming to LIFE! Local tradies have the SKILLS! And soon well have a HOUSE!

15.01.2022 Prime7 tells the good news:

14.01.2022 Listen to Allison Jess of ABC Goulburn Murray, discussing the Life Skills House with Belvoir Special Schools students, Principal Jamie Gay, and Belvoir-Wodonga Rotary President Trevor Pearce. (Recorded April 2017.)

14.01.2022 Bricks! Last Friday, Leigh and Jasper Elkin (also known as Bluey and Son Bricklaying) set up the site and laid the first couple of rows, while bulldog Jagger took care of the security of all remaining bricks. As the sun rose on Saturday, Bluey and Jasper were back on the job, and joined by like-minded bricklayers Paul Rennie, Roy, Rickie, Ray, Mario and Dave. Then Bluey and Jasper were back again on Sunday, for *another* eight hours. ... What an effort! Huge thanks to all concerned.

13.01.2022 On Saturday 22 May, Rotarians and their friends played in the mud and planted about a million trees and shrubs around the Life Skills House. From little things, big things grow.

13.01.2022 Here are the great guys from Russo Constructions, lifting and securing the roof trusses. Once again, we are in awe of our local tradies, donating their time and talent just because its the right thing to do.

11.01.2022 Rotarians at work: Ken Hunter --the man with the biggest hat-- is our licensed builder, with a lifetime of experience. And it turns out that he also has a lifetime of patience, because he got the wall frames into place with the rest of us as his labourers.

09.01.2022 The Life Skills House spent the last two weekends getting plastered, and we've got photos to prove it. :) So many thanks to Keating Plasterers, for donating all the materials, and to our incredible local plastering fraternity for donating their time. That's Brad, Jimmy, Cody, Dan, Josh, Dean, Victor, and of course Richard Keating himself -- plus the legendary Neil Keating. Great work!

09.01.2022 Rotarians getting their hands dirty again. Nothing says "finishing touches" like rolling out the lawn.

08.01.2022 The pipes, the pipes ... On Saturday, the generous staff of Fletcher Plumbing & Co donated their time and skills to do the rough in and to install the pipes throughout the internal walls. We thank each of the following champions, who gave up a perfectly good Saturday to complete this essential task: Aiden Doyle... 04.01.2022 Finally! Our one remaining bureaucratic hurdle has been cleared! Its marvellous what a difference a bit of publicity makes, so thanks to our local media for their support. Heres the latest from The Border Morning Mail: https://www.bordermail.com.au//belvoir-special-school-lif/

04.01.2022 Look at what our friends at the Salvation Army are doing to help out!

03.01.2022 The Border Mail tells the good news:

03.01.2022 See our project on TV thanks to Prime7 News.

03.01.2022 More awesome progress! Termite spraying has been completed, the site has been trenched, boxing has been installed, pods and mesh are in place. Were just about ready to pour the slab, so stay tuned. Huge thanks to:... * Neil of Neils Pest Control. * George and Adrian Grant of Grants Concreting. * Luigi, Michael and Kyle of Colombera Constructions.

02.01.2022 Weve done it! Thanks to some very generous philanthropy, and to funds raised within Rotary, we have blasted through our previous cash target of $120,000. Yes, this means we have enough cash that, when we combine it with the pledged donations of labour and materials, we can afford to build the house. But lets not stop there. We have upped our target to $153,000, so as to cover the cost of a hoist, within the house, to assist students with mobility issues.... Here is our cash donations picture, to 9 June 2018:

02.01.2022 The Border community has thrown its support behind a project which will provide local special school students with valuable life skills. Now it needs government approval.

02.01.2022 Onwards and upwards: Here we see Brendan Gorman and his team from Gorman Roofing Specialist putting on the roof. All perfectly done, and all voluntary. Incredible. And thanks also go to Surdex Steel for supplying the materials at a generously discounted price.

01.01.2022 More on the plumbing ... Reece Plumbing Centre has made a grant of FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS, which will cover all the materials for the plumbing installation. Go Reece!
