25.01.2022 A worthwhile read for anyone suffering chronic pain.

25.01.2022 Dr Jason Ferrante, Osteopath. Jason graduated from RMIT University in 2003, meaning he now has 17 years experience as an Osteopath. During this time, hes treated thousands of patients, and built a loyal following of people who have come to love his treatment style, and trust his wealth of expertise. ... Prior to studying Osteopathy, Jason studied Human Movement, which gives him a great insight into all things sporting related, and complements his love for all forms of sport- we challenge you to find a sport that he cant provide at least some type of commentary on! In addition to sports injuries, Jason also enjoys treating lower back pain, neck pain and headaches, and often achieves great results in hip and knee conditions. Jason is available Tuesday through to Saturday. Why not book online now to secure your spot with a truly talented Osteopath?

A reminder that were closed today and tomorrow, but operating as usual from Tuesday, with added infection control precautions such as limiting patient/practitioner numbers and practitioners wearing N95 masks during treatment. Our hands-on treatment and tailored management plans may allow pregnant women to experience less discomfort, and consequently more enjoyable pregnancies. Unlike other modalities who rely on braces, stretches or exercises alone, we use a combination or manual techniques and home-based strategies to help control your symptoms.

You're the reason we do what we do .

19.01.2022 In line with the Federal Health Ministers advice that allied health businesses remain open and continue providing our valuable services, we have made a number of changes around the clinic. Our waiting area chairs have been spread out to at least 1.5m apart, with some being moved into the overflow waiting area down the hallway. Please use the hand sanitiser provided when you arrive at the clinic, and maintain social distancing with your fellow patients. We look forward to seeing you soon and helping you to stay fit and well during these challenging times.

18.01.2022 Weve had a lot of enquiries around if were open, and how were navigating these turbulent times. Theres been a number of changes as to how were operating, so we thought the easiest way for you to be brought up to speed around them was to tell you ourselves. One important detail we forgot to mention in this video is that were now wearing N95 masks where possible during treatments. This is to help minimise the impact of the lack of social distancing that our treatments... require. Please watch our short video to see how the other changes will affect you.

18.01.2022 This video describes a stretch that can help some often-overlooked muscles, to help you feel less tension.

18.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING HOW WE'RE OPERATING UNDER STAGE 4 RESTRICTIONS During Stage 4 Restrictions here in Melbourne, all Allied Health Practitioners (including Osteopaths, among other Health Professionals), are legally obliged to only see URGENT or EMERGENCY cases for face to face consultations, OR where a delay in treatment is likely to cause significant escalation of your condition to the point it will require medical intervention. This decision is based on the P...ractitioner's clinical judgement, and takes into account many factors on a case by case basis. If you have an appointment booked, or if you wish to book one, you will be screened the day before or the day of the appointment to determine your eligibility. Telehealth is available for patients who do not meet the criteria for face to face consultations. There are severe penalties for BOTH practitioners and the patient should we be found to be in breech of these Public Health orders. Please understand that this is not a Policy of Lifespan Osteopathy, we are under strict instructions from DHHS to follow this directive. The overall aim is to reduce people's movement and close interactions, which is ultimately what's required to bring these virus numbers back under control. We truly value all of our wonderful patients, and will do our absolute best to assist you with Telehealth should you not meet the criteria for face to face treatment during this time. Stay safe Melbourne!!!

18.01.2022 "Pregnant ladies just have to put up with lower back or pelvic pain". Are you currently pregnant and hold this common belief? Or perhaps youve experienced this in a previous pregnancy, and believe that youd just have to go through it all over again if you have another child? ... Given how many women think this is true, youd certainly be forgiven for believing that you have to simply endure months of anything ranging from mild discomfort through to outright agony. But this isnt necessarily the case. Whilst it is true that some women will experience more symptoms than others, our treatments and advice often provide significant relief of pregnancy- related pains. If youd like to learn more about our approach to managing pregnancy-related pains, head over to our blog- weve got a tonne of resources there for you. https://lifespanosteopathy.com.au/category/pregnancy/

18.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day!!! This year, above all others, is a year that Mums truly deserve a "day off". We hope you get to put your feet up, and that your family find some way of spoiling you. Here in Victoria, some Mums will still be 'distanced' from their children, and our thoughts go out to you. Here's hoping that tomorrow's announcements will bring you one step closer to your children. We'll be spending the day at home. Maybe we'll cook up a storm, or maybe that'll all get too hard and we'll order some takeaway. It's that kinda day...

18.01.2022 Some reassurance for the pregnant ladies in our community

17.01.2022 Happy Easter!!! We know this Easter is most likely totally different to how you'd normally be spending it, but we hope you're well; safe at home. 17.01.2022 Hi there! Just a reminder that were open and ready to help you with your working-from-home-in-this-crazy-time aches and pains. Weve got early morning, evening or Saturday appointments available.... Dont forget that we can also provide remote ergonomic assessments, so that we can help you before that little niggle becomes anything more serious. See more

16.01.2022 Ongoing safety measures We are proud to state that we have been operating throughout this whole COVID-19 period, and continue to enforce the highest possible safety measures to ensure the health and wellbeing of all patients and staff. Every single person has their temperature taken on arrival, and it is asked that you sanitise your hands with the provided sanitiser upon entry. ... We also continue to regularly clean all surfaces with a 70% alcohol spray, and this is used on all treatment tables between every consultation. Your Osteopath will wear a face mask during your treatment, as it is not possible to socially distance during a hands-on session. It is also crucial that you reschedule your appointment if you are experiencing any symptoms of cold or flu, or if you are awaiting a COVID-19 test result. Pain does not stop because a pandemic is occurring, and we want to be able to continue to help our community.

16.01.2022 Learn an easy way to stretch out the muscles at the back of your neck and shoulder region.

16.01.2022 Those of you who've been seeing us for a while will know that we've been wearing face masks for months. Now, in line with Government recommendations that all Melbournians wear face masks in situations where social distancing is not possible, we ask that all patients wear a mask when attending the clinic. If you have your own, please wear that. If you don't have one, you'll be required to buy one from us at the current cost price. ... We all need to do our bit in this pandemic, and as we've found, you really do get used to wearing masks quite quickly. This is just another layer in the raft of measures we're using to ensure we can continue to provide you the highest level of evidence-based care in the safest possible environment.

15.01.2022 LIFESPAN OSTEOPATHY TURNS 2 TODAY!!! On the 23rd of April 2018, we saw our very first patients here at Lifespan. This was the realisation of a long-held vision to give back to our local community, and be close to our girls as they grow. . Fast forward two years, and despite a few more grey hairs and a lot of hard work, weve built a thriving business that were truly proud to call ours. We love the loyal community that we serve, and genuinely enjoy coming to wo...rk each day. . Wed like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us get to this point- so many people have helped in ways big and small that theyd be impossible to list. . Were looking forward to serving you for many more years to come. See more

15.01.2022 Do you know if your children are breathing "properly"? Breathing, and doing it "correctly", is a growing area of research across many health professions. Introducing young children (aged approximately 3-4 years plus) to the idea of correct breathing techniques can have major positive effects on them, including:... - Better oral health and dental development. Research indicates that children who breathe through their mouth instead of their nose are more likely to experience dental crowding. If you see your children's mouth open- remind them to close it! - Better mental health and stress management. "Proper" breathing technique can help reduced heart rate and help them feel calm in moments of anger. We've been using this a lot with our older daughter recently, and she now asks us to help her with it when she needs to calm down. Giving children the tools they need to manage their emotions is a game changer! - Better musculoskeletal function. If we breathe in the "correct" way, our entire rib cage and spinal joints get taken through a small range of motion with each breath. For many people, breathing "incorrectly" means taking air only into their upper chest, and not pulling it down deeper. This can lead to overworking of the joints and muscles in the upper chest and neck, and stiffness due to lack of mobility and use in the lower chest and lower back. Some cues to help your children breathe well are: - Breathe in and out of your nose - Imagine you have a balloon in your tummy that you're trying to blow up. If you only take small breaths, you're not getting all the way down to the balloon and it won't blow up. - Count to three when you're breathing in, and again when you're breathing out. - As you breathe, try to feel your belly getting bigger out in front and on the sides. We've also found this cute clip that might help kids get on board with this idea. Give it a try and let us know how you go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mZbzDOpylA

15.01.2022 Just as weve done throughout this entire COVID-19 pandemic, were operating as usual, with extra precautions. If you live in one of the suburbs affected by todays announcements regarding a return to Stage 3 restrictions, rest assured that under the "seeking care" reason for leaving home, you are still allowed to attend our clinic for Osteopathic treatment. As is the case for everyone attending the clinic, youll have your temperature taken on arrival, and asked to sanitis...e your hands with the provided sanitiser. If you are experiencing any symptoms such as sore throat, cough etc, please reschedule and do not attend the clinic. It is our highest priority to maintain the health and safety of all staff and patients. We will continue to clean all treatment tables with a 70% alcohol solution between each treatment, wear masks during our hands on sessions, and sanitise all other clinic surfaces frequently. We look forward to continuing to help you through these challenging times.

15.01.2022 If youre feeling a little stiff and sore in your lower back as we get nearer the end of #Stage4 restrictions here in #Melbourne, then why not give this exercise a try. Its quick and simple to do, and really can help get you moving a little more freely. Once youre done- leave us a comment below to let us know how you feel!

11.01.2022 As you are no doubt aware, the Victorian State Government has moved to Stage 4 restrictions. We have had many emails and phone calls regarding what this means for your upcoming appointments. Unfortunately, we still do not have full clarity as to the impact this restriction will have on the profession of Osteopathy and to our clinic personally. The Victorian government is working closely with our Professional Association to draft guidelines for Osteopathic practice, and an a...nnouncement is expected sometime this week. Osteopathy Australia is yet to be advised as to whether we have a limit to the number of patients we can see, whether we need to move to telehealth type system or how far from home you can travel for care, amongst other issues. As always, we will inform everyone as soon as we know all information. In the meantime, please continue to book and attend your appointments following the strict COVID-19 guidelines we have been using, as we are optimistic that we will be able to continue to help you through the stage 4 lockdown period.

11.01.2022 Weve had a lot of enquiries this week around whether those affected by suburb lockdowns can attend our clinic. Further to our post earlier this week, we thought the best way to ensure youre up to date was to tell you ourselves. *** Spoiler alert *** - for those of you who may have seen Jason at his City practice in the past, he will no longer be available there, and will be working full time from Lifespan Osteopathy in Essendon. ... Please watch our short video to see how the other changes will affect you.

10.01.2022 Are you suffering from lower back pain and think you MUST get an X ray "just to make sure you're OK?" 10.01.2022 This week is National Pain week. We wanted to take a moment to shout out to the 1 in 5 Australians who live with some form of chronic pain. Chronic pain can impact so many areas of your life- your ability to work, sleep, enjoy spending time with family and friends, play sports, and as result, can end up having impacts on your mental health also. Osteopathy considers all aspects of the person, and our Osteopaths can provide not only personalised therapy, but just as importantly- education and a management plan to help reduce your pain and prevent re-occurrence. Why not use this week as a prompt to see one of our highly trained Osteopaths, to see what we can do to help you?

10.01.2022 We've had a lot of enquiries around if we're open, and how we're navigating these turbulent times. There's been a number of changes as to how we're operating, so we thought the easiest way for you to be brought up to speed around them was to tell you ourselves. 10.01.2022 Its the SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!!! Has your child been complaining of a particular ache or pain through this school term, and youve been giving them a half-hearted massage, or maybe giving them a bit of "youll be right"? This term, weve seen a lot of young ones whose little bodies have struggled to adapt to what has been asked of them. ... Many children have spent wayyyy more time in front of screens than they usually would (no judgement here- we know ours certainly have!), due to learning from home and their regular activities being put on hold. Because of this increased screen time and reduction in physical activity, weve seen a lot of kids suffering from upper back and neck pain, as well as headaches or lower back pain. These children have been treated with a variety of techniques, and prescribed some exercises or other management strategies to help them out at home. Wed like to make it especially clear that we DO NOT perform manipulative ("cracking") techniques on children under the age of approximately 16 years old, as it is our opinion that their growing bodies both dont require and shouldnt sustain those types of forces. This is a common concern we hear from parents of prospective patients, so just thought wed clear the air! Our Osteopath Lauren has a particular interest in treating children. She currently has only one appointment available for a new patient for the first week of the holidays, and the second week is filling up fast. Now is the time to make an appointment and finally give them the attention they deserve. Book now to secure your school holiday appointment.

09.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2020 This year, as we see whats unfolding around the world, weve never been more proud nor grateful to be Australian. We literally had tears in our eyes as we listened to the two National anthems this morning, remembering the sacrifices made by thousands of men and women that helped shape our world-class nations. ...and the fact that weve got two little early risers meant we didnt even need to set an alarm to watch the Dawn Service

09.01.2022 When you are a part of the Lifespan family, it is our utmost obligation to keep you AND our staff as safe as possible. This is our priority. To ensure we are taking all measures to protect you and our staff, we have implemented a strict clinic policy and procedure as advised by the World Health Organisation. If you currently have an appointment and any of the following apply to you:... - You are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms including fever, sore throat, cough or shortness of breath - You have returned from overseas within the past 14 days - You have had contact with someone experiencing a confirmed case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Please contact our clinic immediately to reschedule your appointment. We will NOT be treating patients to whom the above criteria apply. Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions to this, even if you don't believe your symptoms to be related to COVID-19. We see a large variety of clientele on a daily basis, including many who are deemed "at risk", and we ask that you kindly respect your fellow clients and the Lifespan Team. We understand that common illnesses such as coughs can often lead to musculoskeletal pain. One example is rib pain which commonly follows respiratory infections. In the past, we may have been able to treat you whilst you still displayed symptoms. Given the current environment, however, we simply cannot do this and you will need to wait until your cold/flu-like symptoms have passed. If the above criteria do not apply to you, please rest assured that we are currently still operating as usual. You can feel confident in the knowledge that we have heightened our already stringent cleaning procedures. Also please note that there is hand sanitiser available at reception. Please use this before your appointment. If you are not feeling well and you cancel your appointment, we will make every effort to find you an appointment when you are feeling better.

07.01.2022 VINCENT IS BACK!!! We're so pleased to have Vincent back in the clinic. You can see him all day Wednesdays, and Saturday mornings. Book online now!

07.01.2022 Has COVID-19 forced you to work from home? Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty in the world at the moment, one thing is for certain- working from home on an improvised work station (laptop on the kitchen bench, anyone?) can compromise your ergonomics, which may result in back or neck pain, headaches or upper limb strains. Were still open as usual (and taking a lot of extra precautions to ensure we can remain open for as long as possible), so if working from home is havin...g an effect on you, were available to help sort out those niggles. Click the "book now" button to choose a time. As always, though, prevention is better than a cure. Thats why were sharing 2 top tips with you. Firstly, have you considered having an ergonomic assessment performed on your home workstation? Lauren has been performing Ergonomic Assessments in offices for a number of years. However, given the current health situation, like many workplaces, were having to adapt to changing times. Which is why were excited to announce that we can perform ergonomic assessments via video link. These assessments will take approximately half an hour. Please call (03) 9372 7714, or send us a DM if this is something youd like to do, and well be in touch to set up a time. Our second tip is... If youre working from a laptop, you need to get yourself a separate keyboard and mouse. This is crucial to ensure that youre able to maintain proper (or as-close-to-perfect) posture as possible. Having a separate keyboard and mouse will ensure that you can elevate your laptop to eye level, and still be able to type and use other functions. To help elevate your laptop, youll either need a laptop riser, or you may be able to get away with using some old phone books or a box that youve got laying around at home. Wed also like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best in these unsettling times. We hope the coming months bring you only good health, and we look forward to seeing you again in the clinic soon.

06.01.2022 Great news! From Monday 28th September, we are able to treat more of you who are in pain. It's not quite "business as usual" yet- we'll be able to see you for the following reasons:... You have delayed treatment during Stage 4 and need diagnosis and assessment, and delaying further would lead to worsening in your pain or ability to function. Delaying treatment would cause an increase in your pain, an increase in the number of treatments required, or a delayed recovery. Pre- and post- operative care. We know that many of you have been putting up with varying degrees of pain during Stage 4. This easing of restrictions mean that we'll now be able to help more of you hands-on than we could previously. We're excited to see you again soon! Please remember to complete the additional forms that will be emailed to you in your appointment reminder. These ensure we're sticking to the rules and keeping everyone safe.

06.01.2022 *** Attention sufferers of OSTEOARTHRITIS *** If you or someone you know suffers from Osteoarthritis (OA), you'd be interested to hear the latest research in this field. It has long been known that there is an association between suffering OA, and developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). A recent study involving nearly 8,000 people, found that using NSAIDS- commonly known as "anti-inflammatories", to help manage the pain of OA, contributes around 40% to the increased risk o...f CVD. This is just another reason why it is important to find other methods of pain relief. Options include weight management, physical activity, stretching, and physical therapy such as Osteopathy. 04.01.2022 Important clarifcation detailing who and how we can treat during the 6-week Stage 4 period.

04.01.2022 Like the rest of Melbourne, we had been eagerly awaiting the end of Stage 4 restrictions tomorrow. Unfortunately, we received confirmation late on Thursday that the recently announced extension means that we will continue to have to operate under limited conditions- seeing only cases that are considered "urgent" or "emergencies" for face to face consultations. At this stage, we are planning to be able to return to a more normal model of treating from the week starting Mo...nday 28th September. However, Osteopathy Australia and Allied Health Professions Australia have announced that they are expecting further updates from DHHS next week. Once we know more, we will be sure to let you know of any important details. We'd like to remind you that we're still available for complementary Telehealth consultations (to existing clients), and to please get in contact with us if you are struggling with musculoskeletal pain, as we'll be sure to be able to help in some way. We'd also like to thank you all for your patience and loyalty during this trying time. This hasn't been easy for anyone, but we look forward to seeing your smiling faces (even if it's actually smiling eyes behind your masks) in the clinic soon.

04.01.2022 Learn how to stretch out some of the major muscle groups in your neck, and decrease that feeling of tension.

03.01.2022 It's the SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!!! Has your child been complaining of a particular ache or pain through this school term, and you've been giving them a half-hearted massage, or maybe giving them a bit of "you'll be right"? This term, we've seen a lot of young ones whose little bodies have struggled to adapt to what has been asked of them. ... Many children have spent wayyyy more time in front of screens than they usually would (no judgement here- we know ours certainly have!), due to learning from home and their regular activities being put on hold. Because of this increased screen time and reduction in physical activity, we've seen a lot of kids suffering from upper back and neck pain, as well as headaches or lower back pain. These children have been treated with a variety of techniques, and prescribed some exercises or other management strategies to help them out at home. We'd like to make it especially clear that we DO NOT perform manipulative ("cracking") techniques on children under the age of approximately 16 years old, as it is our opinion that their growing bodies both don't require and shouldn't sustain those types of forces. This is a common concern we hear from parents of prospective patients, so just thought we'd clear the air! Our Osteopath Lauren has a particular interest in treating children. She currently has only one appointment available for a new patient for the first week of the holidays, and the second week is filling up fast. Now is the time to make an appointment and finally give them the attention they deserve. Book now to secure your school holiday appointment.

03.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING HOW WERE OPERATING UNDER STAGE 4 RESTRICTIONS During Stage 4 Restrictions here in Melbourne, all Allied Health Practitioners (including Osteopaths, among other Health Professionals), are legally obliged to only see URGENT or EMERGENCY cases for face to face consultations, OR where a delay in treatment is likely to cause significant escalation of your condition to the point it will require medical intervention. This decision is based on the P...ractitioners clinical judgement, and takes into account many factors on a case by case basis. The overall aim is to reduce peoples movement and close interactions, which is ultimately whats required to bring these virus numbers back under control. We truly value all of our wonderful patients, and will do our absolute best to assist you with Telehealth should you not meet the criteria for face to face treatment during this time. Stay safe Melbourne!!!

01.01.2022 Following today's announcements by the Premier about the removal of restrictions around Allied Health services, we're thrilled to announce that we are now able to return to "business as usual". This means that there is no longer an "urgency" requirement to justify face to face treatment. This applies to both new and existing patients. ... We'd like to thank you for your patience and understanding through the recent months. So, if you've been putting off coming in to see us because you weren't quite sure whether you fit the criteria, click "book online" button now and let us help you. All patients attending the clinic in person will need to complete a COVID-19 screening form prior to each consultation. This will be emailed to you in an appointment reminder email the day before your appointment, and can be completed and submitted online- it does not need to be printed out. We've had some enquiries about why we require you to complete this before each visit. Essentially, as your circumstances change from day to day, this is the best way to help ensure everyone's safety. Finally, we'd also like to remind you that for the safety of all staff and patients, proper wearing of masks that cover the nose and mouth are compulsory during all consultations (except in cases of medical exemption). We can't wait to see you soon!
