25.01.2022 Another day, another happy client. This stair gate is an artistic solution to solve our clients concern. She was worried the elderly and small children might fall down their large internal set of stairs. We worked closely with her to achieve the design she wanted and every component has been custom made here in Hobart. She described it as "magnificent".

24.01.2022 Pete and I took a mini break with the kids during the school holidays to explore Tas in winter. This photo of our youngest sums up how we feel ... today marks TEN YEARS we have been in business!!! Starting out in 2010 as Overton Projects, five years ago we rebranded our residential building service to Lifetime Homes Tasmania and what a journey its been. Running your own business can be very rocky with lots of ups and downs, but the challenges, effort, sliding, climbing make the leaps of faith and successes all the more rewarding. Heres to another 10 years of adventure!!!

23.01.2022 Well done to our team for getting this swimming pools concrete base poured today! Looking forward to seeing this beautiful home rise up out of the ground soon. WB Maintenance & Concreting

22.01.2022 Our client was fearful of using her existing stairs. She did not want a ramp, but rather a set of stairs with longer treads and lower risers. We have re-built the stairs and our client is very happy with the result and feels much safer.

21.01.2022 Kevin McCloud tests out this kitchen from the perspective of someone in a wheelchair and the conclusion is "its the environment that makes you disabled. This kitchen allows me to do everything I need to do". Lifetime Homes also enjoys working with our clients and joinery designer to create functional, yet exquisite, spaces for our clients to enjoy.

20.01.2022 What a difference 16 weeks makes! Framing to Completion

20.01.2022 Well done Alan for being brave speaking up for your son Matthew. Hopefully some action comes out of this for your family!

20.01.2022 Working on a glass roof, strapped in harnesses, 4 storeys above a restaurant in the middle of a CBD hotel. Our team has painstakingly removed 3 layers of tint and protective film, followed by installing battens and a new polycarbonate roof. The project was a solution designed by Philp Lighton Architects to fix the leaking atrium glass roof at Hadleys Hotel. ... Great work team, tackling this challenging job over the past few weeks!

19.01.2022 At Lifetime Homes we really value our staff. Thanks Dave for your contribution to our business over the past 5 years!

16.01.2022 New accessible paths at a farm near Cygnet, providing easier access for the client.

15.01.2022 We have now made it much easier and safer for our client to access the clothesline, spa and veggie gardens

14.01.2022 Enjoy our latest newsletter which talks about our award winning apprentice, a gift to treasure and available to work. https://mailchi.mp/c4b94bd33186/sept2019

14.01.2022 It is wonderful to see apprentices learn and mature during the 4 years of their Carpentry apprenticeships. Our 3rd year apprentice Lucas did us proud featuring in todays Mercury newspaper.

14.01.2022 My daughter loves the ramp (and maybe loves the doll even more!). She is really treasuring it. What a thoughtful gift. Thanks for your work to make our home more accessible for her. Its just beautiful to see her accessing the door without having to help or almost crawl up the steps as she did in the past. She loves the fingerprint scanner too What wonderful feedback. Link provided in comments to see this precious girls smile after receiving the doll.

13.01.2022 Making fantastic progress on this beautiful new home in Bellerive. Loving all the angles against the blue sky backdrop.

13.01.2022 Thrilled that our apprentice (and now full time carpenter) won the Lance Barnard Memorial Award last night at the Tasmanian Training Awards 2019. Not only was he a finalist for Apprentice of the Year, but he took out this prestigious annual award, which has been presented for 21 years, and recognises those who achieved through the diligent application of practical skills and ability. Congratulations Mitch, we are so proud of everything you have achieved and are lucky to have you on our team at Lifetime Homes!

13.01.2022 When the Mercury came to photograph a tradie on a building site, Dave, our foreman with 40+ years experience, quickly volunteered our apprentice. He then sent us a behind the scenes photo with caption Film Star Lucas and is now saying we should provide a dressing room for him. Low and behold Lucas has now made the shortlist for best tradie in Tasmania! Now that would give Lucas something to stir Dave about. Feel free to vote in link below (ends Sunday) https://www.themercury.com.au//53c48791648806c910d995d607e

11.01.2022 STOLEN - This morning at 6am, our 2 x aluminium mobile scaffolds were stolen from our Lower River St Bellerive site. The chains were cut with bolt cutters and it would have taken some time to pull them apart, carry and load; and could not have been done without making noise. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

10.01.2022 Our staff are going to get a laugh out of this for many years ahead ... Sat Mercury pg3 ... perhaps Paul and Lucas should take up modelling?

10.01.2022 Another week, another handover ... happy clients

09.01.2022 The Easter bunny came to site today to check on the concrete pour, ensure social distancing and distribute goodies to our staff. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter!

09.01.2022 As we reflect on 2019 the highlight is that we make a difference in peoples lives. Our website gallery has been updated and some of the special stories from 2019 are on our Latest News (links in comments). Special thanks to all our clients and subcontractors who journeyed with us this year and we are so excited about the inspiring projects we have lined up in 2020. Wishing everyone a safe and happy new year.

08.01.2022 A surprise site inspection from Peter and Sharons new 8week old puppy Louie today. He approved that things are on track for the first floor concrete pour next week.

08.01.2022 Many NDIS participants and providers are suffering from NDIS fatigue. By speaking out we hope to help some of these exhausted families.

06.01.2022 Wow! Its a huge honour to be nominated for the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards and we found out today we are semi finalists!

06.01.2022 We handed over this Lifetime Home to our clients last week ready for them to settle in over Easter. Over the next week Lifetime Homes will be closed Good Friday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day. Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter break with lots of yummy Hot Cross buns and easter eggs.

04.01.2022 And thats a wrap ... the roof almost as blue as the sky today. What a tight space for the crane to operate.

03.01.2022 Happy 50th birthday Paul! We truly value your strong work ethic, quality skills, honesty, easy going nature, dry sense of humour and friendly banter. Lifetime Homes is lucky to have you. We even managed to track down some clotted cream for you to have with your scones!!!!

03.01.2022 How can this happen in Australia in 2019? Why is bureaucracy so painful and constraining? Ive seen many National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants in their homes over the past 4 years: unable to access a toilet; parents lifting teenagers up stairs throughout the day; participants unable to bath themselves in private; participants unable to enter or exit their home, to name a few. The NDIS is designed to help people get the support they need so their skills... and independence improve over time; participate in the community and reach their goals. Giving participants choice and control is often spouted by the NDIA. However, these same bureaucrats are spending more time and money arguing under the reasonable and necessary banner than getting on and helping NDIS participants. In 2017-18 we built 3 new homes that met NDIAs Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) requirement, but NDIA were unable to process the paperwork (perhaps it got lost in the system for 5 months) and we had to sell the homes before an NDIS participant could benefit from them. We have designed and quoted countless home modification solutions for NDIS participants in existing homes, but not one of these projects have gone ahead (by any builder) due to the NDIA not having a process in place and unable to make things happen. I am not naive in dealing with Government ... my wife and I have dealt with State and Federal Government for more than 20 years. This experience with NDIA is like nothing we have ever experienced before. We have been so disgusted with how the most vulnerable are being treated in our society, we have been advocating (unpaid) on behalf of them and their families. We invited many of the NDIS participants and their families that we have been dealing with to be part of our lobby to Senator Abetz. Many are overwhelmed and exhausted and said they cant think straight so we helped them draft questions about their situation in words suitable for Parliament. We encouraged them to join together to find their voice to be heard I read somewhere not standing up for yourself makes you a victim. Not standing up for others makes you an accomplice. If it was purely a commercial decision we would have given up with NDIA a long time ago. While we have incurred huge losses from trying to do business with the NDIA, the only reason I am speaking out is because these families need someone to stand by them. It is them I am fighting for. Hopefully the media can help flush out where the problem is with the NDIA, so that the most vulnerable in our community can receive the help they need.

02.01.2022 Our CarePort is now on display at ILC in Launceston. Very worth popping in to see all the useful equipment and products on display.

02.01.2022 More smiles at handover this week. Hoping our delightfully cheeky clients Norm and Sue enjoy the low maintenance, energy efficient and accessible features of their Lifetime Home for many years ahead!

02.01.2022 CLIENT NEEDS LAND - we have a client who would like to purchase 2 acres of land within 40kms of Hobart. Our client is currently living in a wheelchair and he would like us to design & build a new home or modify an existing home to meet his access needs and increased independence. If you know of a 8000m2 block or hobby farm for sale in the coming weeks, please let us know.

02.01.2022 I love handover day where we get to see the joy on our clients faces as they get the keys to their Lifetime Home. Getting this thank you card on Friday made all our hard work worthwhile. Wishing this lovely couple many years of happiness in their Lifetime Home.

01.01.2022 This is an excellent illustration of why we specialise in building accessible homes. While these figures relate to New Zealand, our little Tasmanian isle would share a very similar story given we have the highest prevalence of disability in Australia as well as an older population than other States. If youre thinking of downsizing, be proactive and build a Lifetime Home. (BTW: I think they got the "less than" sign around the wrong way ... but you get the picture)

01.01.2022 If you are stuck in hospital and want to get home, but cant because you dont have an accessible toilet and shower, then a CarePort could be your solution. Rental and purchase options are available and we can currently install within a week.
