25.01.2022 New Article Reminding ourselves to 'steal & embrace' moments of joy and delight throughout our day is a habit, and a habit when honed can, even for just a little while, displace the everyday burdens we put on ourselves. We all have with gripes, concerns, stresses and heartaches. We can find ourselves feeling this way, it can be displayed in our expressions and our actions - we can drink our coffee, we can drive our car, we can queue at the bank, we can eat our food, we can ...train and exercise all in a 'grim' state of mind. We can look at strangers, and even our love ones, with this state of mind plastered all over our face...if we allow it. 22.01.2022 "It's Only When We Notice We're Alive, That We Can Start To Live For Ourselves..." Do you know what was the best thing I heard last week?... My gorgeous sister Catherine popped over for coffee last week, and as she swaggered in I said 'you're looking really well' and she responded with a cheeky shit-eating grin saying "I haven't drunk any alcohol for 90 days" After the celebratory high-fives, she went on to say that her initial plans were to only give up for a year, but frankly, now, given the way she's feeling, plus the dramatic upturn in her life, even at this early mark, she said she can't possibly see herself going back to the booze. As we discussed the laughing highs & the subsequent lows that accompanies the bumpy journey to sobriety, Catherine was already saying, even after only 3 months of complete abstention, that 'it's the best thing she's ever done'. And I concur...because it's the best thing I've ever done. I asked her what, so far, has been the biggest change, the most profound 'shifts' in her physical and mental wellbeing... 19.01.2022 NEW BLOG ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION? The most damaging voice in your life is the one in your head... What goes on in our heads can bash us up, decimate our capacity for self-kindness, crush our purpose and demolish our calm The solid foundations we require to design an optimal life for ourselves is neither a mystery, nor expensivein fact it’s pretty much free, yet requires the challenging and often intimidating exercise of looking where we don’t want to lookhence the propensity to pursue the glamorous, the chic, the ‘easy-fix’ and the numbing agents to void our own reflection... ...Your personal blueprint for optimal living hasn’t changed for millennia, what has changed is the amount of louder, distracting voices we permit into our life that distract, distort and confuse what ultimately is a simple act in self-care. 19.01.2022 How often have you got to the end of your weekend, feeling just as exhausted as when it started? I think most, if not all of us would agree that time away from our 'work' is critical for our wellbeing. And to use I.T. jargon...all of us need time to back-up, shut-down, restore and re-boot.... Frustratingly though for many, given our hectic lives, it's particularly challenging to properly switch off & recover. This is especially pertinent now, due to Covid 19, that many of us are working from home or have children schooled from home, so delineation-lines between our work space and home space are now a little muddled. What tools do we have available to us so we're better-abled to recalibrate our time to ensure we can 'turn-off' and recover properly? 18.01.2022 Are Your Suffering Opinion-Fatigue Syndrome? Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not a truth. - Marcus Aurelius.... Much of our life is ruined for us by a blanket or shroud of familiarity that descend between us and everything that matters. It dulls our senses and stops us appreciating everything, from the beauty of a sunset to our work and friends Life isn’t necessarily dull and without excitement it’s just that one forgets to look at it i the right way: we forget to remind ourselves what being alive, fully alive, feels like... 17.01.2022 New Article "...I realised the very thing I was getting annoyed at, is the very thing I’m doing to myself It’s actually my own impatience with myself that is harbouring and manifesting the perceived impatience I see (and react to) in others.... See, in these hyper-busy work periods my default ‘should be’ to become more patient with myself (kinder to myself), however, on occasions, it’s been the complete opposite. It’s when times are demanding and challenging is the exact time when I should be (more) patient with myself. Oh but noI found as it got busier, more chaotic, when customer demands heightened, when work-flow overflowed, I gradually not only lost patience, but I actively motivated impatience within myself ridiculously I sped up, I communicated less, but demanded more, and I expected morenot only from myself and my team mates, but alsothe customerthe customer!!! (told you it was comicallike they give a shit about what I’m thinking lol)..." Hit the link to read the entire article https://myfutureself.com.au/why-impatient-people-gave-me-t/ Feel free to share

11.01.2022 New Article Loss of Perspective: One of our greatest flaws as humans is our natural ability to completely exaggerate our own importance. What goes on in our lives, looms very large in our view of the world. And so, when we get stressed we can suffer anxiety, during bouts of stress-induced insobriety or chronic fatigue we can get upset, angry, curse, become resentful and literally throw things across the room.... If we are to reclaim our calm and composure, we must regularly be reduced in our own eyes. We must give up on the very normal disturbing illusion that it really matters what we do and who we are. ........................................................................................ If we are capable, at least for a short time each day, to reduce ourselves in our own eyes and attempt to quash the self-imposed illusion that what we do and who we are really matters then maybe the burden of living will be lifted somewhat. It is here when we give ourself these moments in time, we can access that good listening, that sympathetic, that kind, and innately clever person that resides within you. 10.01.2022 LATEST BLOG It’s precisely in times of immunity from care that the soul should toughen itself beforehand for occasions of greater stress if you would not have a man flinch when the crisis comes, train him before it comes. - Seneca Buddha reckons...'What We Think We Become' ... Following this sage advice then, we should take great care in 'thinking more effectively'. I argue that if we are not physically as fit, strong and as healthy as possible, then our innate awareness, capacity, want and motivation to build our psychological strength will always be an ongoing struggle. Mindfulness, reflection, quietude, meditation, active meditation are essential daily-tools to both reduce stress and the noise in our heads, whilst developing and maintaining our resilience. Practicing these daily-tools would be the last thing we'd want to do if we are constantly distracted, fatigued, stressed, under-nourished or under the influence... 05.01.2022 Exercise: An Exercise in Simply Self-Forgetting Part 1. What are the required elements, the conventional prescription if you like, for a successful modern life? It would may involve being consumed by lots of technology, being constantly 'hyper-connected' both online and with people. 'Being- busy' socially, and to work as hard as possible to earn as much money as you can - to afford the mortgage, house, car, education, plus all the other life-luxuries that are presented to us... as essentials. All of this can often leave us all both feeling a tad unfulfilled, and with very little wriggle-room to even consider, let alone pursue the things in life that manifests 'our-fulfilment'. Our ability to harvest 'inner-cheerfulness', propagate our health & wellbeing, & develop a calm resilient mindset is dependant upon our capacity to 'back up, shut down, restore & reboot'. Simplicity and authenticity that are both essential keys to personal-thriving. Because we're all busy and forget, it's important that we provide ourselves access to ourselves so we can regularly recalibrate our thinking, to realign our vision, and upgrade our internal narrative. Maybe ironically, this is best achieved when we free ourselves from ourselves... Click the link to read the entire article: https://myfutureself.com.au/exercise-an-exercise-in-simply/

04.01.2022 It's What You Do 'Most' of The Time That Counts In my last post I asked the question: Why do people struggle to do what is best for them? And I think a major contributing factor maybe found in a simple, one word answer...time....Continue reading

03.01.2022 NEW BLOG The best of all medicines is resting and farting... I mean fasting.... Isn't eating great!? On one hand it nourishes us & provides us with the energy we need to live a healthy, resilient (re)productive life. On the other hand, it has the capacity to make us fat, sick, and tired. It's delicious...which is both wonderful, yet most often proves to be our self-control-achilles-heel when it comes to both exercising moderation and sensible choice. It fires up our pleasure centres, and placates (for a short time) our stresses and anxieties It comforts us. We eat to celebrate. We eat (or don't eat) to self-sabotage. We eat to self-reward ourselves We eat to self-commiserate, when we are feeling lazy and slothful We can eat abundantly when we're either sad or happy. We're adept to eating alone or with company. We often eat subconsciously, out of habit...even if we're not actually hungry. We eat when we're sober, stoned, smashed or hungover. And we can eat whatever we want at any time of the day. Is eating one of the greatest distractions of all time? Hit the link below to read the article in full https://myfutureself.com.au/k-i-s-s-my-fast/
