25.01.2022 The pandemic has meant we are experiencing job losses for women at the rate of nearly 5 to 1. We are still making decisions without recognition of the impact on women. Just like our super policies, we are yet again not designing for 'equity'. Women were already significantly financially disadvantage and we don't yet know the compounding impact of this but we need action, NOW. The federal budget used to accompanied by a women's budget impact statement. We have to have this b...ack, we need to understand the gender impact of the budget. We all saw that childcare was the first industry impacted by the removal of jobkeeper, having a compounding effect. Childcare availability predominantly enables more women to work and more women work in childcare. "We must ensure that those people who could not get paid work even before this crisis hit, including older women, are not left behind in entrenched unemployment." said Australian Council of Social Services chief executive officer Cassandra Goldie. The proportion of women over the age of 50 on unemployment has climbed fourfold since 2001. There has also been large increase in women supporting a child on JobSeeker or Newstart, lifting from 7.3 per cent in 2007 to 27.4 per cent in 2019. The budget office found a string of policies, including the Gillard government's tightening of parenting payment access, the Howard government's closure of the parenting payment allowance, and tightening of disability support pension access by both sides of politics had contributed to the large increase in women on assistance. This is not about which government, this is about a consistent approach on policies that do not continue to deliver policies, financial and systemic disadvantage to women. https://www.smh.com.au//mums-and-older-women-become-the-ne

22.01.2022 Sad to hear Australian born singer Helen Reddy has died aged 78. Helen was best known for her hit 'I Am Woman', one of my personal favourites, best played on the loudest volume with your tribe. The 70s, were a time when women made great progress 'in numbers too big to ignore'. Unfortunately it seems true progress to equality has stalled. So great time to reignite the passion of this great song.... Oh yes I am wise But it's wisdom born of pain ############################################## I am woman, hear me roar In numbers too big to ignore And I know too much to go back an' pretend 'cause I've heard it all before And I've been down there on the floor No one's ever gonna keep me down again CHORUS Oh yes I am wise But it's wisdom born of pain Yes, I've paid the price But look how much I gained If I have to, I can do anything I am strong (strong) I am invincible (invincible) I am woman You can bend but never break me 'cause it only serves to make me More determined to achieve my final goal And I come back even stronger Not a novice any longer 'cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul CHORUS I am woman watch me grow See me standing toe to toe As I spread my lovin' arms across the land But I'm still an embryo With a long long way to go Until I make my brother understand Oh yes I am wise But it's wisdom born of pain Yes, I've paid the price But look how much I gained If I have to I can face anything I am strong (strong) I am invincible (invincible) I am woman Oh, I am woman I am invincible I am strong FADE I am woman I am invincible I am strong I am woman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rptW7zOPX2E

20.01.2022 The 10 days from Friday, March 13, to Sunday, March 22, contained several landmark events in Australia’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The Melbourne F1 Grand Prix was cancelled at the last minute. The Reserve Bank cut the cash rate to 0.25 per cent and established a $90 billion pool of cheap funding. The Ruby Princess docked in Sydney Harbour and the federal government unveiled a $66 billion stimulus package. It’s important to remember the interest is being capitali...sed on deferred loans. To describe loan deferrals as repayment holidays is not accurate as interest continues to accrue and will ultimately be paid to the bank if everything goes to plan. https://www.afr.com//was-the-decision-to-defer-loan-repaym

19.01.2022 While it has been horrifying to watch from afar, can’t imagine having to live through what the US has. A leader who does not know what the truth is and continues to incite racism and violence until the bitter end. It truly is a good day

18.01.2022 #retirementgoals #redsportscar #weightlifting When Jill Murphy retired as a literacy teacher two years ago, she was done with being cerebral. But her favourite pastimes shopping, going out and drinking didn’t seem enough to fill the newfound hours of retirement downtime ahead.... And so, at 75 years old, Jill took up weightlifting. My husband’s also gone mad. He bought a red sports car, she says. And her strength training moves ensure she can get in and out with ease. https://www.abc.net.au//2020-08-/ladies-who-pump/12565974

18.01.2022 Watched this yesterday, great episode on SBS INSIGHT. How brave were these women, leaving everyone they knew and loved for the promise of a better life with a stranger. In the 1950s, 60s and 70s thousands of young women from Greece and Italy crossed the world by boat to marry a man from their homeland who’d already migrated to Australia. These promised brides had usually only seen a photo of the groom before making this life-changing decision to marry a stranger.

14.01.2022 Hopefully this trend will be one of the few positives from the pandemic. The reduction in credit card borrowing reflects a marked shift in consumer behaviour during the coronavirus pandemic. Households have responded to the health and economic crisis by increasing savings and taking a more cautious approach to their finances, including paying down card debt. "People have been spending less on their credit cards but, even more critically, they’ve been accelerating the rate at... which they have been repaying the money they owe on their credit cards." https://www.theage.com.au//festive-season-credit-card-debt?

13.01.2022 Going through the second lockdown has been tough, spending each day talking on teams or zoom. It’s hard to remember what month we are in let alone the day of the week. There is a reason why lipstick sales go up when times are tough, at some point we need to feel like our world is going to get back to normal. It’s time to step it up in lockdown. Great initiative from Jacou Hair providing salon at home kits and with a little help from Tony, regrowth be gone.... 11.01.2022 Who else can use some happiness chemicals right now?

09.01.2022 This time of year is generally when we set goals and decide what we are going to do differently for the next 12 months. There is plenty of research to support the fact that New Years resolutions more often than not fail. Why? Because we need to form habits, to ensure consistency in all we do. Whether it is losing these lockdown kilos, or setting and working towards other life or financial goals. We need to move these new behaviours into habits. Small steps everyday, can make... a big difference. Start with your why? Why is it important to you and make sure that is visible to you each and every day. Changing behaviour requires discipline, but the sooner you can do it on auto-pilot, and it is now a habit, the more likely you are of success. What habits are you looking to form this year? https://www.abc.net.au//new-year-neuroscience-mak/12989912?

09.01.2022 #alifereinvented #freechapter "As we go through our day to day lives, we don't know when we are going to need a financial buffer, but it is inevitable that we will." Kerry Ashbrook When I chose to use the quote above from one of my Financial Movement events, I did not know just how many of us in 2020 would find those words to be true.... While we hear on almost a daily basis this pandemic is a 1 in 100 year event, unfortunately women's financial insecurity is most certainly not. It is a daily growing occurence. The only way to have financial independence and choice, is to take control of your life and money. The time to do this, is now! 09.01.2022 Happy Hump Day! Start the day learning some dance moves with Fleetwood Mac

08.01.2022 Everyone needs to read this! I am with Jane Caro and do not understand why we are not marching in the streets. Covid-19 has both unveiled and accelerated the discrimination and systemic burdens that make women more vulnerable to poverty throughout their lives. A vulnerability that snowballs as we age. Prior to Covid, women over 55 were already the fastest growing group among the homeless. Research released in August estimated that 400,000 women over the age of 45 currently f...ace this fate. Women who are in the private rental market, who are not employed full time and are a sole parent have a 64% risk of losing the roof over their head. If they have been homeless before, this risk increases to a staggering 83%! Instead of being outraged and marching in the streets, we look away, we do not see the disastrous policies that continue to exacerbate the barriers women have, impacting our ability to simply make ends meet. The reward for a lifetime of putting other people’s needs ahead of their own is very likely an old age of poverty and sleeping rough. Younger women now face greater risks for their financial futures, as they live with the financial impact the pandemic has and will continue to have on them. https://www.theguardian.com//the-outlook-for-older-women-i?

08.01.2022 "And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in a way that others might not see you, simply because they've never seen it before. And we will applaud you every step of the way". What a day and what a victory speech from Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, bringing hope not only to America but to the rest of the watching world. On her way to being the first ...Continue reading

07.01.2022 So, so true.... Too often we're working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. I believe in a future wher the point of education is not to prepare you for another useless job, but for a life well lived. I believe in a future where an existence without poverty is not a privilege, but a right we all deserve.

06.01.2022 Kurt Fearnley's great interview of Sam Mostyn, with Sam discussing the need for purposeful action and targets to address diversity. "Hoping, wishing and praying for change when you're in the minority of an industry is not going to work." 04.01.2022 Today more than ever having an emergency fund is important, although for many at the moment, it is too late. Unfortunately we may not yet be through the worst of our financial situation. ASIC’s MoneySmart adds that setting up a separate savings account is a good idea as it will discourage you from dipping into the fund. If you have a mortgage, you should use your offset account which reduces the amount of interest you pay on your home loan as your emergency fund to get mo...re bang for your buck. But when should you actually use your emergency fund? Keep your emergency fund for expenses you need to pay quickly when other money isn’t available, MoneySmart says. If it can wait, save up for a few weeks and pay it from this saved money instead. https://www.news.com.au///71e0f18ebe16e27779e49bc972222c52

03.01.2022 Hard work, determination and understanding what funding you are eligible for, all contributed to teenager, Maddie buying her first home. Working at McDonald’s, she did it without any financial help from her parents. She achieved her Senior Certificate to gain entry to university in Year 11 ahead of everyone else, but decided getting a full-time job instead of studying would fast track her goal. At the age of 18, she started looking around to who would give her a home loan, bu...t was knocked back on her first application. Then Maddie and mother Raelene began looking at new housing estates for a house and land package. On top of her $30,000 deposit, Maddie qualified for Queensland’s First Home Owner Grant of $15,000 and the Federal Government’s $25,000 building incentive, making her goal so much easier. https://www.news.com.au///917c2224bb1abc4c7ccf4a62ab5424ef

03.01.2022 Can anyone relate to this? When you become a mother, you unintentionally become selfless, so much so that you as a person becomes non-existent. I can’t remember the last time I was really happy. I mean really happy. I love my family more than anything but I’m not happy. Perhaps it’s because my needs are no longer met and yet I feel bad for even just saying that, as if that’s just how it is meant to be. As if I’m not even a person, an individual or someone that matters.I nev...er realised how much I wasn’t myself anymore until I took a step back and looked at the bigger picture. And yet this is all too common as women. As mothers, we give every bit of who we are and what makes us happy in order to please others. We take the backseat until eventually we become unrecognisable and then we get told we have changed. "I don’t know who I am anymore. My life consists on putting everyone else first. Their needs and their happiness, but who is putting my needs first or my happiness?" https://www.kidspot.com.au//0f5a728297d501809211b14c0d3389?

02.01.2022 Unfortunately these stories are far too common. Ebonie Sanderson, 26, shared horrific audio messages she received from the Sydney man after he called her a disgusting fat pig when she politely declined to meet him for sex. On this occasion, the man’s employer fired him and other women have come forward with claims of abuse from the same guy. Ebonie's instincts made her uncomfortable to meet this man and she could not have been more right! https://www.news.com.au///727f18c7d559e7d5a3a33f4cd805d9f0
