25.01.2022 Tempo and pauses, why and where do we apply them? Why? When we incorporate tempo into training it allows us to build stability and maintain control in a movement. The reduction in speed means we can really look at the mechanics of the movement and see any potential movement breakdowns and where we need to build back up. Pauses similarly force us to keep tension and make sure we are in a good position. Pauses use the strength in our muscles vs the stretch reflex in our ligame...nts complete the repetition. Application: Big compound movements that require lots of moving parts working together can benefit greatly from the use of tempo and pauses, for the novice powerlifter tempo and pauses can help with keeping tension and positioning out of the hole, off the chest and during the pull. Tempo can also be utilised in accessory movements to increase the time under tension and help build muscle. Have you ever done a block of training that’s incorporated tempo? Let us know in the comments. #thisislift3 #pausesquats #temposquats See more

25.01.2022 Quality of life goals! This is @jodyrae777 , Jody came to us wanting to take back some time for herself and build some new routines around strength and diet. Jody has previously spent time in gyms but never in a small group setting. Jody has been working with Carlie for 5 weeks now and in that time we have gone from not having the mobility to flex the knee (due to previous injuries.) and sit in the leg extension to being able to get into the position and move without pain. ... While this may not seem as impressive as kilos on the bar, this improvement in mobility has vastly impacted Jody’s quality of life. Sometimes it’s the little things that day to day we may not notice until we actually sit down and really think about how life has changed with these improvements. Mind blown I’m looking forward to what is to come for Jody, ‘Started from the bottom, now we here’- Coach Carlie #thisislift3 #mobilitystabilitystrength #qualityoflife #qualitycoaching #itsthelittlethings #squatbenchdeadlift See more

21.01.2022 Tomorrow around 20 men and women will face the platform, many for the first time. All they get is 9 attempts to show the world and themselves the results of their hard work. There will be success and there will be some failures. That is the risk of flying close to the sun.... But in the failures there is opportunity. The opportunity to show depth of character and pick yourself up for another attempt. It’s going to be a great day, food from @cueandcrew sponsorship by @physioconnex_performanceclinic It’s almost time. #lift3lifts spring 2020 is here. #thisislift3

20.01.2022 When we first decided to do #lift3lifts at the beginning of the year we hoped to do something special for the coast and put on a show. Thanks to all the amazing lifters today I think we did that. We are so proud of each and every lifter. It’s not easy to put yourself so close to your limit, especially in front of other people.... For the Lift3 lifters, it’s been an absolute privilege to watch you grow over the last few months and put your trust in us. There are so many great stories to tell over the coming weeks. To put together 9 lifts on the platform takes hours and weeks of hard work. There’s been highs and lows but as we have on the board in the gym. We can do hard things A massive congratulations to @vfolitarik for taking best overall female and @zipzipbenham for best overall male even after tearing a bicep on his second deadlift attempt. A big shout out to @donamyte and @corey_kinsela for coming a second by half a point. It was so close. Grind/lift of the day was sponsored by @physioconnex_performanceclinic and went to @saarahabdelqader for an absolute comittment, not only on bench but also her last deadlift. The spirit of Lift3 award for the lifter who most embodied our values of support, education and outcomes was @shawnstevenson who throughout the whole day showed great sportsmanship and support to all. He brings energy and excitement with him every day and we love having him and his girls around. For everyone who came to watch and support your friends and family, thank you. Your support made the atmosphere unreal. We wanted to put on a show and a great event and we did pretty well. Plenty of learnings to be taken away and put in place for the next one to go to the next level. We never want to settle for good enough and we’re not even close to done. Everything we have said we were going to do, we have done. We never wanted to be a normal gym. We demand excellence from ourselves every day. From the equipment to the coaching staff we want to bring nothing but the best for our athletes. We’re not slowing down. So if you want the absolute best place to train, get in touch. #thisislift

19.01.2022 Saying a temporary goodbye to @chriscrompton today as he heads off to boot camp. He’s been putting the work in with @joewillis.au and is over 3kg down with increased strength and conditioning. We love when people come to us with clear goals for us to help them achieve.... Good luck Chris. We’ll see you on the other side. #thisislift3

18.01.2022 Empowered women, empower women. @jody_mclean spent the month of March doing 55 squats a day to raise money for breast cancer research. In Australia 55 people get diagnosed each day with breast cancer. Yesterday a group of women from Lift3 joined her as she finished off her month of squats. The risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer by age 85 is 1 in 8 for women and 1 in 651 for men. However, the five year survival rate is 91%. The rate of survival has increased drastically over the years, this is made possible by funding. Head to the link in @jody_mclean bio to donate. #thisislift3 #lift3fam

11.01.2022 The last few months have been so crazy that we’re excited to announce that we’re growing the team. More and more people are realising that being treated like an individual will get them far greater results than other ways. It hasn’t been easy finding good candidates for our members. We’re very protective of the culture we’re building and the quality we want to offer. @joewillis___ struck us with his genuine enthusiasm and excitement about what we’re doing and how it aligns wi...th his own values. Make him feel welcome when you see him in the gym and if you want to take your training to the next level get in touch and we can get you paired up. Here’s what Joe is about. My passion is being in the gym helping people become their best. From age 19 after considering career options and being a diesel mechanic for 4 years, I just could not see myself doing anything other than a life in the gym lifting others and myself to their highest potential through weight training. With a bachelors degree in exercise science, I take pride in continually learning and upgrading my skills and education in strength training, hypertrophy and exercise science to reach the needs of the clients. #thisislift3

11.01.2022 We’re back. Restrictions have finally eased so we can now return to 24/7 access for all members. Covid safety is still important so cleaning after yourself is still essential.... Covid marshalls are only required for 20 people onsite and above. Luckily as a small gym we know exactly when the times are that we get close to that and it’s when the coaches are in anyway. Want to get access to the best gym and best coaches on the coast. Slide your way into our DMs. #thisislift3

10.01.2022 Not playing around anymore.

Matt is available now to help you achieve your goals so get in touch either through us or reach out to Matt directly. #thisislift3

08.01.2022 Quick tip. If you’re working to improve the accuracy of the touch point on your chest in bench put a little chalk on the middle of your bar and do some target practise. Just remember to clean the bar down once your done. #bullseye #benchpress #thisislift3

06.01.2022 Hard to believe Lift3 lifts was one week ago. 20 men and women putting it all out there. Showing their families, friends and kids what hard work can do. It’s about supporting each other and inspiring the next generation. No other gym like it.... @apogee_creative #thisislift3

06.01.2022 #lift3 #lift3lifts Spring 2020 novice powerlifting comp. Weigh-ins done and our lifters are warming up reading for a big day of #lifts

05.01.2022 When they are watching what are we showing them? It’s hard as a parent to look like a beginner to our kids, we want to be superheroes to them. We need to show the next generations what it takes to look like after ourselves so that they are equipped to do the same.... Nathan has been making great progress under @bradporter__ guidance. For a guy with no real gym history, taking the time to learn the basics is setting him up to make some amazing progress. It’s never going to be a quick fix and it’s going to be hard. But it is going to be worth it. For the best coaching and gym available get in touch. #thisislift3

05.01.2022 STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING My definition, the way I see it and how it applies to YOU. STRENGTH: The physical capability to perform the tasks at hand ... CONDITIONING: the ability to perform those tasks for the duration of the event. Let’s talk about how this applies to the athlete We’ll take an Rugby League player for example They need to run, jump, catch, pass, tackle, be tackled and sometimes kick - those are the tasks They need to be able to perform those tasks intermittently for 80 minutes while staying mentally sharp so they can perform at their best for their coach, their team and their fans. Now pick your favourite athlete. What are their tasks? How long do they need to do those tasks and stay switched on for? How do they perform in a way that makes them your favourite? Well planned and well executed strength and conditioning allows them to do these things. Now that you’ve done that I’m going to give you a specific athlete for a case study YOU I don’t care if you play a sport or not. You’re an athlete that should be performing at your best and feeling good doing it What are your tasks? Do you perform your best at work day in, day out? Do you have the energy to do the things you want to do without the things you HAVE to do suffering? Do you have enough left in the tank after that to be present, happy and caring around your partner or your kids? Believe it or not they are your team and your fans. Start treating yourself like your favourite athlete, get strong, get conditioned and make your team and your fans proud! - Coach Jesse @saundersstrengthscience : @apogee_creative #thisislift3

03.01.2022 Repost @carlie_lift3 Client Spotlight: Both @connor.cason and @monique_hull are trail blazers. Last week they competed in our inaugural PL comp Lift3 Lifts.... Prior to their 12 week prep they had never followed a PL program. They had been in the gym to support their sports, Monique is a competitive rower and Connor plays soccer; but never something structured in this way. I am proud of them beyond measure! They have inspired a number of our other members to dive in and give our next comp a crack. They worked hard and it shows, PBs with the weight on the bar but also in their movement patterns. Vast improvements were made over the course of the program. I can’t wait to see what the next few years holds for them in their lifting, exciting times ahead. #thisislift3
