17.01.2022 Our 2019 grading reel - Put together by triple threat Rohan Cooper, our Head of Post. For the uninitiated, grading can be a daunting technical challenge, but Rohan has broken it down for you to shed some light... and shade on the subject. Youre welcome. 'Colour grading is not just about injecting colour into a frame, its about finessing and shaping an image to reach its full potential. Its what ties a piece together, and brings it to life.... In order to give us the most creative freedom and technical flexibility to do this, we shoot in a format known as log. This gives us a very dull looking shot to begin with but allows the camera to capture the most amount of detail for every part of the image by minimising the dark shadows and bright highlights where details are usually lost. It also preserves both dynamic and tonal range, allowing the colourist to push and pull the image further to match the direction of the creative without fear of having the image break apart. Then makes those plans actually happen. Shaelah: - Rescued her elderly Devon Rex cat Jar Jar Binks from Gumtree. - Loves karaoke and dancing. Will start and end the dancefloor at your wedding.... - Is always laughing. - Is probably the brightest, most colourful person you will ever meet she has an interesting selection of crazy clothing. Including a pair of pants with bananas on them. - Is the person you go to when you're chasing the answer you *need* to hear. - Is our legit resident smart person with too many degrees. She has known Jono, our other resident smart person, for over a decade they were Red Frogs together in 2006. (Don't get the two of them in a room together, they'll never stop talking.) - Has worn glasses since she was 6 months old. - Is an avid reader she devours several books per week. (Favourite genres: sci-fi & fantasy.) - Wears many hats in her role with us analysing, branding, copywriting, strategising, project managing, planning, scheduling, system developing, brand managing, and more. - Is a multi-talented human; she is also a photographer, graphic & product designer, and musician. In fact, her experience in a wide range of roles, from creative to project management, was one of the reasons we snapped her up. That, and not knowing what she'll wear from day to day. On October 26th, The Anangu, Uluru Kata Tjutas traditional owners, are closing the climb to the top and weve been making content about the closure. For years, people have been climbing Uluru against the Anangus wishes, but in two months' time they will be able rest easy knowing no more footsteps will scar Ulurus ancient surface. Uluru is the home of many creation stories, with markings on the rock dating ba...ck to 30000 years we're happy that such important history and culture will now be preserved and respected. If you ever get the chance, you have to visit, and take the walk around the base where all the stories are. 07.01.2022 Last but not least, this is Matt. Together with Josh, he founded Light + Shade. Matt is a director, cinematographer, executive producer, editor, and more. Matt also fancies himself a bit of a spear fisherman in his spare time. So, to prove how little spare time he has, we took these photos of him spearfishing in the Valley Pool in Brisbane, the first time the wetsuit has been submerged in recent memory. (No fish were caught and nobody was harmed in the process.) -Matt is a tr...ue romantic. -He's prone to getting a bit emotional at Alan Joyce's column in the Qantas magazine. -Matt is utterly unflappable on set. Seriously. Given that around 10% of the worlds population is left-handed, its something of a statistical rarity that we actually have 3 left-handed people in our head office who are left-handed! According to them, the number one daily struggle is smudging when writing by hand. Also, using scissors is no easy task. (Right-handed people generally dont think about either of these things.)
