25.01.2022 Check out what’s just opened up at @oreillysrainforestretreat What was formerly the Green Mountains camp spot at Lamington National Park just got a whole lot better. The @oreillysrainforestretreat and the Qld government has partnered so now OReillys will manage the camp ground and they have created permanent tents as well as still having camp sites, a beautiful big kitchen/ eating area, great amenities and two of the tents have wheel chair accessibility. 22.01.2022 My walk along Main beach this morning as I stopped along the way to capture the Jellyfish that had washed up. These ones are like a Blue bottle but flat base and sail and no tentacles I hadn’t seen these ones before and I also found a couple of dead fish. These are iPhone pic’s from sand level and it’s pretty impossible to see what you are taking but with guess work I got the result I was after. A google search tells me these Jellyfish are called By-the-Wind Sailors (...Velella velella) Slight itchiness, potentially lethal from allergic reactions. By-the-Wind Sailors, also called sea rafts or Velella velella, are small, oval sea creatures with a transparent sail and blue bottom. By-the-Wind Sailors aren’t jellyfish. Like Portuguese Man-o-War, Velella are siphonophores a colony of separate specialized organisms that only appear to be one marine animal. - Velella feed on plankton. 19.01.2022 Going out for locals on the Gold Coast during Christmas holidays is finding somewhere where the tourists don’t know so well to avoid the crowds. This was a walk at the back of the Coombabah Lakeland’s Park in which we only saw a handful of people. Another trip was to Fingal Heads with a border pass in hand. That trip was worth it except for the two hour plus return trip in standstill traffic. 11.01.2022 Yay, our borders are re-opening from July 10th. I have not been half an hour south of where I live since lockdown, though I did get a pass just in case I needed to. Our neighbours in Tweed who cross multiple times a day have had to live with the delays to work and the Them & Us division these borders have created. I’m not saying it was not the best thing for the situation, just sympathise with those that live so close to the border. As a Gold Coast resident I’ve also miss...ed @thetweed_nsw and their magnificent beaches and awesome Artisan food business that are opening all over the place. 10.01.2022 Not too many places on the east coast do you get to see the sun set over water. Still a strip of land here but you get those reflections across the water which are so magical.
