23.01.2022 How do you choose LEDs for home? You're probably used to looking for the wattage e.g. 60 watt or 100 watt. Or you are reading that it is equivalent to 60 watt or 100 watt. e.g. when looking at compact fluorescent bulbs. You probably remember how bright an actual 60watt globe was and that it would light a small room. If you had to read small print or needed to see detail you would go up to a 75 watt or even 100 watt. We have been trained to equate wattage with brightness. Wi...Continue reading

15.01.2022 Keep it Simple Sunshine. The KISS principle should never be overlooked. Some energy saving tips are very simple and would seem self evident but let's just cover a few just in case we've forgotten some of the simple ones. Here are a few to get things started: 1. Use the switch and turn things off when you're not using them.... Lights, fans, aircon, whatever.... If it helps try imagining your money literally draining away down the 'plug hole' in 30c lots. Sounds small but it all adds up. 2. Choose lower wattage LED bulbs when you next go to buy light bulbs, in place of incandescent, or compact fluorescent (CFL). LEDs are more efficient than the rest. 3. Choose lower wattage LED instead of higher wattage LED bulbs. Higher wattage doesn't always result in more or better light. You will probably be able to find a 5, 6 or 7 watt LED that will do as well as the 11 watt LED you purchased less than 2 years ago. Well that's the first little set of Light Energy Design tips. Stay tuned for Facebook Live videos to come ...

14.01.2022 How to create extra profit in business. This is not the only way to create extra profit in business, and it's maybe not that exciting but it's certainly a simple way. Do you have lighting in your business? Yes.... What type is it? Fluorescent Let's say they are fittings approx 4 foot long (1200mm) with two tubes per fitting. Each fitting will be using 80 watts each minimum when switched on. Let's say there are 40 fittings, 40 x 80 = 3,200 watts or 3.2kW. When they are switched on you will be charged by the energy company for 3.2 units for every hour of operation. Check your latest energy bill. You may be charged 30c per unit or 35c per unit or higher depending on your particular arrangement. OK. If you have your lighting on 12hrs 5days per week in this example you will be charged 12 x 5 x 3.2 x 0.35 = $67.20 per week. In this example if you can reduce the running time say 2 hours per day using daylight by opening curtains for example, you will have saved 2 x 5 x 3.2 x 0.35 = $11.20 per week. I know this doesn't sound much but in this example that would be over $500 per year. Every little bit helps. What if you can only save one hour per day, well you've saved at least $250 per year. This is a limited and very simple example just to show the concept and I have deliberately shown small quantities to show it doesn't take much of a change. And when you reduce your energy cost in this way you have put money straight back into your bottom line profit ... the best sort of profit! There are of course smarter ways that yield greater savings, but this one is something that you can work on tomorrow. And start putting money back into your bottom line now. We'll talk about the more innovative ways of increasing your triple bottom line in future posts.
