24.01.2022 TRY RUBY'S RAW CHOCOLATE RECIPE THIS EASTER // With Easter being this weekend I thought this was the perfect time to share my raw chocolate recipe. I looooove chocolate and believe me when I say this recipe for a healthier homemade chocolate really hits the spot! Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think :) You can use some funky molds or shaped silicone ice trays to make the chocolates into cute shapes.. Just watch out because they do melt once out of the fridg...e.. Even more of a reason to eat them all up ;) cup of raw organic cacao powder cup of coconut oil (if you use cooking coconut oil you will get a more milder taste) Pinch of sea salt cup of pure maple syrup or runny honey All you do is mix it all together and then pour into a tray (for a bar like chocolate) or molds and freeze. If you want to add a little something, get creative with toppings or my personal fav is to add a few drops of food-grade peppermint oil for an amazing mint chocolate I also love to add cacao nibs on top for a crunch or some shredded coconut and raspberries. YUUMMMM I'm going to go make some right now!

21.01.2022 VILOMA BREATHING PRACTICE // It's time to step out of the hustle and bustle of the week that’s been, and give your self some space and time to turn in, become grounded and return to your calmness. This viloma breathing practice encourages us to breathe using the full capacity of our lungs. Often when we are in stressful, busy states, we breathe shallowly and hold our breath in our chest, shoulders and necks. This not only creates physical strain and tension on the body, but ...can also contribute to anxiousness and the feeling of not being able to 'catch our breath'. So many of you have inspired me to keep going and take this further! It is the warmth, the growth and humility we have seen in our students as they embark on the journey of mindful movement and self discovery that has inspired me to recreate this community in a new location - in my home town on the Gold Coast. It is our vision to create a new hu...b of movement, support and awakening that sees people to connect to what is of most meaning in life. To help them to untangle from external influences and pain that keep them disconnected from their life source and intentions for being here. Those small moments when the stress response turns down, the breath smoothes, the mind settles that we become ourselves again, we gain clarity and a sense of freedom. These little moments matter, and they grow, and you share them with others. You make a difference to us and those around you, as much as our teachers make a difference to you. Please join with us to celebrate this new creation, help us infuse it with your positive intentions for those new visitors to flourish, for our new teachers to stay inspired. 18.01.2022 THE NIYAMAS - SHAUCHA // What do you let enter your body and your mind? Do you easily become effected by the news and negative thoughts? Do you choose to fill your body with unhealthy, heavy food? Do you snooze your alarm and stay in bed instead of showing up for your yoga practice? There are many ways we unconsciously let toxicity into our bodies and minds ... The first of the Yoga Niyama's Shaucha, refers to 'purification' and 'cleanliness' of the body and the mind. The sages say that Shaucha is not only the foundation for bodily health, it is also the doorway to deeper and more tranquil states of meditation Shaucha encourages us to look to at the patterns in our lives, and become aware of how we may be acting in ways that create blocks, heaviness, sluggishness and negativity in our beings. Take a look into your current habits, and see if there are any areas you could add more cleanliness, lightness or vitality too This could look like: Choosing to eat fresh, healthy, seasonal fruit and vege instead of fast food Acknowledging negative thoughts when they arise, and choosing to change to a more positive way of thinking Acknowledging all emotions (good & bad) instead of being consumed by them (you are the feeler of the emotions, not the emotion itself!) Using your filter when watching the news or looking at social media - not everything you hear or see is true Practicing detox yoga to help shift toxins in the body Creating a meditation practice to create some stillness and space in the mind Practicing breath-work to help shift stagnant energy in the body De-cluttering and cleaning your space - home & work! 13.01.2022 DIY NATURAL SPRAY & WIPE If you’re looking to invite more low-tox alternatives into your home, this DIY spray and wipe combo has been a go to in my kitchen It’s super easy and cheap to make, all natural, and works in place of your regular kitchen sprays which are often filled with harsh chemicals ... To make your own, you will need: Spray bottle 1/4 cup white vinegar 1 3/4 water 20 drops of either peppermint, eucalyptus or lemon essential oils (or a combo of a few!) Combine all ingredients into the spray bottle and shake to mix. Use it in place of your regular spray and wipe for kitchen, bench tops & bathroom!
13.01.2022 ALOE + BANANA SMOOTHIE // Aloe vera - grows like a weed and does wonders for our skin when we've spent a little too long in this NQ sunshine... But did you know you can also add it into some of your fav recipes? This aloe + banana smoothie has been my go to afternoon snack lately as the days are getting hotter! ... 1/2 frozen banana 1/2 an aloe leaf - use the gel only 1/2 cup coconut milk 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup ice Blend it all together and serve! If you don't like banana, you could try a tropical smoothie and substitute it for mango, orange & kiwi instead You can also use the left over aloe gel / leaves to rub on your skin for a double dose of freshness
13.01.2022 SUPPORTED FISH POSE // Supported fish pose is a pose used in restorative yoga. This pose is very opening for the heart and throat chakras, and can create a deep release in the fascia bands around the collar bone and the solar plexus (areas where we can store a lot of emotional tension!). Holding this pose also energises the thymus glad (located behind the breast bone) which can either calm or stimulate the immune system. We recommend holding this pose for 5-8 minutes, and u...sing some of the following tips for ultimate support. Remember you want to feel fully relaxed without any tension in restorative poses. - Place a block horizontally along the middle of the ribs to create a lift in the chest - this block should be mid height. - Place a second block under the head at full height. - Make sure your chin isn't pointing to the sky and your jaw is relaxed. - Legs can be extended out straight, or be slightly bent if you feel you need to create more ease in the pose Try this pose at home for a few minutes in the morning, or come along to our in studio Restorative Yoga Class at 5:40pm on Friday afternoons
12.01.2022 I found this video so inspiring, this woman is growing so much food in a inner city suburban garden. Its truly amazing the freedom and self reliance that can come from growing your own food. If you only have a small block, check it out, she produces over 400 kg of food each year using only a 100sqm area. In our current times, food security its super important, as we could see during our relatively short lock down in QLD, when super market shelves were pretty bare and seeds an...d seedlings were out of stock everywhere. People where amazingly sharp at working out quickly it was a good idea to start growing your own, I hope that everyone that started has kept it up as much as they can. The skills you build are priceless, and the rewards are multi-dimensional. 10.01.2022 THE NIYAMAS - TAPAS // If you're someone who finds themselves struggling to follow through with the things they intend to do, keep reading Tapas is the third of the five Niyamas, and is the heat and fire that we feel in our bellies when we are determined to do something. Tapas cultivates a sense of self-discipline, courage and passion within us, which helps us to pursue the things that we want in our lives, and also burn away that which does not serve us ... Is there anything that comes to mind when you think about about Tapas? Maybe a work project that needs a little more dedicated effort from you? A health and wellness goal that needs more consistency and discipline? Your yoga practice? A habit that you need to move through and let go of? Whatever it may be, there are many practices we do to build more tapas within ourselves, which then flows on to the rest of our lives. Practice Yoga ~ stronger yoga practices build literal heat and strength in the body and mind creating discipline and fire within! Complete your every day, mundane tasks with full focus and effort - e.g. washing the dishes, brushing your teeth Practice Pranayma and breath work to clear away stagnant energy in the body Utilise your will power to replace old, unhealthy habits with new, nourishing ones.
