24.01.2022 Our students of Lighthouse Christian College were interviewed by Clayton Bjelan from 89.9 Light FM. He spoke to our year 8 students about the "Apprentice" challenge which was an initiative planned and encouraged by Mr Luke Martin for students to learn more about business principles. The challenge was a great success our students managed to raise significant amount of money and they are deciding to donate the money to a charity. 23.01.2022 The College had a great Valedictory dinner at Southern Golf Club last night. The students looked stunning and there was a great atmosphere during the event. Our College captains Melissa Pear and Jonathan Nashed addressed the crowd and shared fond memories of their studies in Lighthouse. Great speeches and moving testimonies where also given by other students and teachers of the College. Mr Tim Rogers Principal of Lighthouse Christian College also shared an inspiring word. He challenged the students to always be motivated and to die for something worth living for. He quoted Martin Luther King, Jr "A man who won't die for something is not fit to live."

15.01.2022 Students of all ages at Lighthouse stop and pause to remember all Australians killed or maimed in conflicts from WW1 till current ones. The valiant sacrifice of the youth of the nation is honoured. Per capita we lost more of our young men than other nations in the so called, Great War. Students are reminded that freedom does come at a cost, peace doesn’t exist in a vacuum. A coercive force is needed within our society to maintain law and order and to police our justice syst...em. The same principle is seen as acting across the globe. Peaceful conflict resolution techniques are also promoted, but an ultimate recourse to arms is also acknowledged. Some students on campus come from Viet Nam and recently a Japanese delegation were visiting. Their recent ancestors were at war with our parents/grandparents but today we celebrate reconciliation. 11/11 is an antecedent of Christmas when there is a strong emphasis on peace. Lighthouse students respect the RSL and all who contribute to the security of our nation. In this photo two middle school students are laying a wreath before the entire school assembly and dignitaries to commemorate the days the guns went silent in Europe all those years ago.

08.01.2022 Dissection now, that’s a word that makes a lot of people feel queasy! But it’s an important activity in Science classes. Dissecting an ox-eye helps us understand how incredibly structured the eye is; how the human eye works, how that lens focuses light, how the retina receives light. We can even see the ‘blind spot’, the place where the nerve to the eye joins the retina. Dissection promotes careful, thoughtful and purposeful actions, and requires detailed observation. It may even inspire future optometrists and ophthalmic surgeons!

05.01.2022 New York Marathon (star dandenong) Mr Rogers is flying to New York this Friday to run the famous New York marathon as part of the Australian World Vision team on 6 November.... I was on a plane flying back to Australia about five years ago and I made a list of the things I most wanted to do in my life, he said. This was the top of my list so I have been thinking about it for five years. Although Mr Rogers said the marathon is extremely difficult, he hasn’t been training as much as he should. I haven’t been training hard enough really. I’ve done 30 kilometres so I’ll have to see how I go, he said. I’ll have my name on the back of my shirt so if I slow down too much I hope people will yell out. There will be too much moral pressure to stop. The New York marathon kicks off on Staten Island before taking a scenic route through the city to finish in Central Park, 42 kilometres away from the starting line. Mr Rogers’ initial fundraising target was $2000 but the total is heading towards $4000. Kids at the school come up and give me 10 cents or 20 cents. They’re inspired by it and hopefully in their lives they’ll get out and do things like this as well, he said. It’s great because when you think what that will buy in India or Thailand, it goes so far. Mr Rogers is being sponsored per kilometre of the run, which will go to World Vision’s SEE Solutions program, providing ‘seed’ funding for loans to entrepreneurs in remote and poor villages in Asia. Running with World Vision means the run has got purpose, he said. It’s an interesting project because this one is like an eternal gift and keeps rolling on and rolling on.
