23.01.2022 A little message from one of our favourites Peter Inge- Chair of Property Industry Foundation Victoria

22.01.2022 Meet our girl, Bianca and her little one Kaylan. It’s hard to imagine now, but just over a year ago she was 20-years-old, 38 weeks pregnant and homeless. We’re so thankful Bianca was referred to Lighthouse and welcomed in to our Young Parents Program. With the help of our Carers and Psychologists, she was able to find her feet and learn the vital parenting skills needed to take care of Kaylan and most importantly, herself. Twelve months onshe is now living independently and ...has plans to complete her VCAL and enrol in a Bachelor of Nursing . We wanted to share her story with you today to show you how Lighthouse helps young families like hers, slowly rebuild their lives back together again...piece by piece . You can read more about Bianca’s journey on our website. Since the next few weeks are regarded as the season of giving and spending time with loved ones, we ask you to please spare a thought for girls like Bianca- and if you can, donate. Right now, there are hundreds of homeless young families, babies and pregnant women still out there that need our help. Your donation will help us to give them a place to call home See more

22.01.2022 Today marks the start of Foster Care Week, a special time to celebrate the enormous contribution of foster carers and everything they do to help our most vulnerable children. This group of extraordinary, unique individuals make our communities and society a better place by offering support, security, love and understanding to the children in their care. We know from experience that being a foster carer isn’t always easy, but it is extremely rewarding, and truly does change a... young person’s life forever. So, to all our amazing foster carers, THANK YOU. Each day this week we’ll be sharing a little light on why exactly we’re so thankful . Even though we’re apart right now, please know that everyone in our community is clapping for youbecause you’re truly extraordinary. P.s if you’d like to join in and clap for our foster carers tooplease upload a video story on Instagram and we’ll share it to our page. See more

21.01.2022 This Spring, why not show your friends, family and loved ones that you’re thinking of them by sending a text from Lighthouse. For a small donation of $5, $10 or $20, Lighthouse Foundation will send your mates a surprise text message & virtual gift (like the ones here), that’s bound to brighten their day. The best part: every dollar raised goes towards funding our life-changing programs. There’s three different options to choose from, so we’ve got a little something for everyo...ne in your contact list. Small acts of kindness like this can reduce anxiety and help us to feel more positive in the worldand we could all benefit from a little bit more of that right now. Step 1. Visit our website www.donate.lighthousefoundation.org.au & select a virtual gift. Step 2. Complete your donation on the web page and make sure to include your mates full name, mobile no and which gift you’ve chosen in the ORDER NOTES. Step 3. Sit back and relax knowing that your contribution is making a difference & that your text will be on its way within 24hrs. Thank you to those who are jumping on board . By sending a text, you’re supporting the children and young people in our care impacted by neglect, abuse and homelessness.

18.01.2022 Our gorgeous ambassador @djhavanabrown and the savvy @effiekats cleaned through Havana’s wardrobe, and generously donated the clothes to us. We hope you enjoy this fun video these two lovely ladies deciding what to toss and what to keep - we certainly had a chuckle! This curated range of items is available to purchase on Depop, and you can find them by hitting the link in our bio

18.01.2022 There is no one thing that makes a young person ‘at-risk’, often a young person that comes into Lighthouse’s care experiences a number of the above risk-factors before becoming homeless. One way to imagine the effects of these risk factors is to picture yourself building a tall tower from wooden blocks. Each block represents a risk factor (e.g. trauma, educational disengagement, drug addiction, family violence) and the tower can only go so high before it topples over. Our ho...listic approach focuses on helping our young people tackle these individual issues, so that they can build a strong foundation for a resilient life. Even if their tower falls again later in life, we’ll always there to help them pick up the pieces back together again, as a part of our On For Life promise. The other mask features Cassie’s now sold out Beware of Croc print. Inspired by the pandemic we're facing globally, these art... pieces have been created as a statement on the transition that face masks have made in 2020 from medical equipment to a fashion statement. 10.01.2022 Meet Wendy and little Emilie- one of our lovely Carers and bubbas from our Vicki Vidor OAM Young Parents & Babies program. Wendy, a mother of four herself, has been with Lighthouse for a number of years now, acting as a role model and pillar of support for many of our young mums. By modelling a loving environment, Wendy helps the girls learn how to raise their baby- with love and nurture- so that both mum and bub continue to thrive and grow, ultimately reaching their potential. We’re so lucky to have incredible people in the world like Wendy join our cause- helping to change young lives and future generations to come, every single day

09.01.2022 Before coming in to our care, many of our kids have never had a birthday cake before, or had major milestones celebrated in their lives. This is why baking holds such a special meaning at Lighthouse- it symbolizes more than just a yummy dessert- it’s the feeling of being loved, considered and held in someone’s thoughts for the first time. This is why our Community Committees and dedicated volunteers often make cakes for our children and young people. This one was a particularly beautiful creation by @misspennycakes to celebrate a special young person’s 18th birthday. Thank you for always keeping our kids in your thoughts

08.01.2022 They say from little things, big things grow . This couldn’t be more true at Lighthouse, with beautiful fundraisers like this taking place in our very own backyard. One of our gorgeous Community Committee members, Effie Nikolis is growing seedlings in her garden in order to raise crucial funds for Lighthouse during this difficult time. A donation of $10 or $15 will get you a large punnet of thriving seedlings ready to be planted at homewith every type of herb and vegetabl...e available for you to choose from . If you’d like to jump on board (and make your garden grow), all you have to do is head to our website to make a donation, take a screen shot of your receipt and text it to Effie on 0413 772 238 with your choice of plant/s. Your plants will be ready for pickup or delivery in November. Little initiatives like this make the world of difference 1). Adelaide tomatoes (large wrinkly ones, great for salads) 2). Large pink flesh tomatoes (low acidity) 3). large round red tomatoes ( great for salads and cooking) 4). cherry tomatoes (yellow, red, Kumato) 5). Cucumbers 6). Bell peppers (red / green capsicum) 7). Sweet corn . Broad beans 9). Green beans 10). Peas and snow peas 11). Beetroot (red crimson variety) 12). Kale (Curley variety and Red Russian) 12). 01.01.2022 Recently, our founder Susan Barton AM was profiled in the Herald Sun as one of Victoria’s influential women. Having worked with vulnerable kids for over 30 years, Susan says that now is the time for society to act on the issue of youth homelessness. Many things are intersecting globally - the pandemic, climate change, political and social upheaval, isolation, and growing resistance to systemic racism. It is a critical turning point for addressing homelessness and creating resourceful, resilient, trauma-informed systems that partner with the community to care for children that need out-of-home care. Lighthouse is working to achieve exactly that.
