24.01.2022 Yesterday, the Victorian Government made announcements relating to the easing of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this included allowing people to par...ticipate in outdoor activities or train in community sport in groups of up to 10 people (plus a coach / supervisor). Basketball Victoria supports this approach, as it recognises that sport and exercise play a critical role in the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of Victorians, but importantly this must be balanced with the risk of transmitting coronavirus. While this provides an opportunity for many of us to get back into participating in basketball outside of our home environment, Basketball Victoria wants to emphasise that how we all collectively act in the coming weeks will directly affect the health of our community and our sports ability to return to more regular indoor activity in the near future. We are being provided an opportunity to enjoy a level of sport and exercise outdoors in the short term, but we must not compromise safety, nor the reputation of the sport at this vitally important time. For those wishing to participate outdoors we suggest you refer to Basketball Victoria’s Outdoor Training Guidelines that have been developed in line with government restrictions and the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport. Should you choose to participate outdoors, have fun, but please do so in a safe and respectful manner. For a full update and guidance on outdoor activity / training - please visit http://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/

19.01.2022 VJBL Coaching Update 2021 We hope you are well and surviving through all the restrictions the year has placed on us. This is a message about COACHING for the... Bacchus Marsh Lions squad teams. An update about PLAYING squad basketball will be posted tomorrow. For those of you who may not be aware, each year Bacchus Marsh enters teams in the Victorian Junior Basketball League, where teams from across Melbourne and some regional centres play against each other on a Friday evening. Coaches and players represent the association in this higher level competition, and usually play some tournaments during the season as well. It’s a great way for coaches to test and improve their skills against other associations around the state. Are you interested in coaching a team in 2021? Due to current restrictions, we are unable to provide dates for the tryouts for the VJBL program. Usually tryouts are held in early/mid October, but they will have to be postponed this year. Tryout dates will be published on TeamApp and Facebook when they are confirmed. We would like to encourage interested coaches to complete an online application by following the link below: https://forms.gle/SDiHqvX3cENAoTWcA It is a fairly simple process. Please complete this by Sunday October 11. Should you have any further questions, email me at: [email protected]

19.01.2022 That’s it for 2020! Thanks for your support throughout a difficult year for team sports. We have loved seeing games get going for the last 4 weeks, and the players really enjoying themselves.... Thanks to the committee and our coaches: Dave, Matt, Nathan, Marty, Sean, Cherie, Andy, James and Ella for their commitment to their teams. Thanks also to team managers and others who have helped with scoring and tasks to allow games to occur. You won’t hear much from us for a few weeks as everyone takes a well deserved break, except for the occasional Facebook post. We’ll let you know about teams, coaches and training from mid-late January. The new season is scheduled to commence on Saturday 30th January, with training likely to begin in the week following this, which unfortunately means no training before games commence. Over the break, encourage your kids to practise their ball skills whenever they can. Stay safe, Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

07.01.2022 Basketball fees update To: All BMBA Members Date: 9 July 2020... Re: Winter 2020 Short Season Cancellation Further to our correspondence yesterday regarding the cancellation of the season, I would like to advise the following in regards to any player fees that have been paid to date. Any BVC (Basketball Vic Fees) that were paid, will be carried into next season. This fee is for 12 months registration with Basketball Vic. Basketball Victoria have advised that fee payment date will be amended to reflect the start of our next season, so as to cover a full 12-month registration. All $30.00 Association fees currently paid, will be carried over into next season and will cover the Summer 2021 Competition. I will send a detailed list to all Clubs next week, showing all the members who have paid to date. Now if your current situation means a refund of the Association fee would be more suitable, please contact me directly at [email protected] with your child’s name, team, club and your bank details and I will then bank transfer your refund. In regards to all VJBL fees, we are working through this aspect with all involved, including Basketball Vic and will provide you with an update as soon as possible. So, until then, please keep safe! Regards, Johanna Blain BMBA Coordinator

04.01.2022 Basketball Victoria COVID-19 Update - Monday 11 May The Victorian Government today announced some gradual easing of restrictions for Victorians that will come i...nto effect on Tuesday 12 May from 11:59pm. While basketball is a predominantly indoor sport, there are a number of ways that people can participate in basketball activities utilising community accessible outdoor courts and open spaces. Importantly, this must be done with a maximum of 10 people in any group activity, with no contact permitted, and applying social distancing and safe hygiene practices at all times. We appreciate the announcement doesn’t allow for the use of indoor venues, however, we will continue to work with government to institute the appropriate guidelines that will see a return to indoor basketball at some stage in the very near future. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to be active through basketball outside in a safe and respectful manner under strict compliance with the governments new restrictions. For further information on our COVID-19 updates for leagues and domestic basketball, visit the Basketball Victoria website - basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19

04.01.2022 Around the courts - finals edition Tonight featured 3 Lightning teams in action, all fighting for a grand final spot. 03.01.2022 When you can’t play basketball ... Why not practise your dribbling like Lightning U8 player Mavrik... PS. Be careful inside! ... (Any more videos out there? Send through to David Champness)

02.01.2022 Basketball is back! Great job by all players in U16 and U19 boys tonight. We hope you enjoyed getting back on the court! Thanks to U14 boys for filling in for the U16 competition. ... Thanks to all clubs and the BMBA for the huge amount of work to get players back on the court.

01.01.2022 Message to members sent via email (in case you missed it) To: All BMBA Members Re: Return to Basketball... We are all really excited to be getting everyone back on the court this week and we forward the following, so we ensure we do it all right! As with everything we do at the moment, there are some Covid-19 restrictions that we are required to follow to allow play to get underway. So, we are seeking your support to make sure we do it right and provide a safe environment, and can keep the kids on the court. The rules we all need to follow are: Only ONE PARENT/GUARDIAN (siblings allowed if required) can enter the Stadium per player. DO NOT ENTER the stadium until 5 minutes before your game All spectators MUST PROVIDE their name and phone number using the QR CODE at the entrance to the Stadium or the contact tracing list at the foyer door BEFORE entering the Stadium. Players and spectators MUST IMMEDIATELY EXIT the foyer and head to the players bench or spectator seating at their teams allocated court. MASKS MUST BE WORN by all people over the age of 12 while in the Stadium. Players/Coaches will not be required to wear masks while participating in the game. All spectators MUST SOCIALLY DISTANCE (1.5m apart) when in the Stadium - if unsure please ask. As soon as your game is finished all players and spectators MUST IMMEDIATYELY EXIT THE STADIUM via the side door. COACH/PLAYER meetings can take place outside the stadium. So if we all follow these simple rules, we can continue to have these round robin games fixtured until end of term 4 and then hopefully we can return to a more normal type competition, at the start of term 1 next year. Finally, we sincerely thank all members and their families for their ongoing full support and patience, it has been a long haul but we are all glad to be back!
