As our event is over 4 months away, at this stage we are still going ahead with plans to hold the Opal Festival at the end of July 2020 Our committee has decided that we will make a finial decision as to whether it will go ahead or not by Monday June 8th 2020. 16.01.2022 It is with great sadness, that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Lightning Ridge Opal Festival. The Lightning Ridge Opal Festival has become a large event and due to its size requires a significant amount of planning. With border restrictions still in place and no announcement or approval for holding large-scale events, we do not believe that we will be able to deliver this year’s event to our usual scale and standard. The Festival is a major economic driver for Light...ning Ridge and our region. We encourage anyone who had planned to visit Lightning Ridge in the next coming months to do so. Lightning Ridge is a wonderful town to explore and we are ready to welcome visitors. We are now planning the 2021 Festival and hope that it can be bigger and better than ever! 08.01.2022 2019 LIGHTNING RIDGE OPAL QUEEN COMPETITION Ladies only a few days left to enter into the 2019 Lightning Ridge Opal Queen Competition! HAVE YOU GOT YOU ENTRY FORM?... There are some fantastic prizes up for grabs, including a Spectacular Opal Jewellery Pendant donated by E.Gregory Sherman Opals and a bag of other goodies. Plus the opportunity to act as the Lightning Ridge opal industry’s ambassador at the Australian Opal Exhibition on the Gold Coast and at other events held in Lightning Ridge throughout the year. The category of People’s Choice calls for audience participation with guests on the night voting for their favourite contender. The winner of this category will receive a spectacular piece of opal jewellery donated by Jo at Lost Sea Opals and the winners nominated charity will receive a donation of $500. 03.01.2022 Our 2019 Opal Queen Leyla was also awarded the People’s Choice Award for the 2019 Opal Queen. Part of that prize is a $500 donation to the Charity of the entrants choice.
