17.01.2022 Well I would like to take this opportunity to let everyone know I am no longer captain/group captain or a member of lightning ridge rural fire service due to certain circumstances beyond my control. I have thouroughly enjoyed my eight years as a volunteer 2 years before my long service (dam) I had climbed from a volunteer hose puller to group captain working my way up the ranks and achieved my goals. I learned a lot through many courses I had done ranging from comm ed to lead...ing crews, instructing ,chainsaw my favourite level 3 and many other courses to better myself and bring the knowledge back here to my brigade. I thank each and every member for your support and attendance whilst I was in the rein I have met many people from all over the district and beyond through the RFS and made some good friends along the way and made closer friends here at home. probably pissed of a couple too intentially/unatentionally they will know who they are. LOL . Another chapter of my life has passed it will be hard sitting here on days when I hear the sirens going from my place. Thank you so much to certain members of FCC pudd tiny shiralee mark Mulheron Georgie mark Ryan shak Ray Andrews and anyone else I may of forgotten. At least I leave with a good knowledge of fire suppression and knowledge on fire itself I can handle anything lol. Thanks especially to tiny and pudd my instructors on a lot of courses I cherish their friendship. And also you to mark :-). Anyways to all my past members be safe and look after your selfs at fires learn and embrace and you will go far. Thank you roger See more

11.01.2022 LIVESTOCK SAFETY DURING A BUSH FIRE The risk of injury too or death of livestock during a bush fire can be reduced by preparing and maintaining an area onto which livestock can be moved and secured. This area should be maintained throughout the year. A safer place is:... a large cleared paddock (or two connected paddocks with the internal gates open) situated away from any buildings, bush or tall grass. The ideal location will: be large enough to allow livestock to run through or around a fire contain a water supply, such as a dam be closely grazed or mown be fenced with clear access have shade Maintenance: Ensure the area around stables and paddocks are free from a buildup of grass, leaf litter, sticks and other vegetation and rubbish. Keep grass around buildings and in laneways short and if possible, green. Store flammable goods, including hay, fuel and chemicals as far away as possible from your designated safer place for your livestock. Maintain emergency feed supplies in case fire destroys your normal source of feed. Keep the safer area free of manure. Do not store large piles of manure, especially during the warmer months. The pile could build up heat inside and start to burn.

11.01.2022 Fire permits were cancelled but have been lifted to burn with caution of course a permit is required, see or ring roger kupfer group captain / permit issuing officer on 0427438264 or contact fire control centre on 0268224422 all permits will cease during Xmas between 21st December till the 5th of January so no burns allowed at all between these dates any queries contact the above mentioned

02.01.2022 Hopefully us ridge its get some of this

02.01.2022 Lightning ridge hq is receiving a new/second hand excellent condition category 1 truck. Complete with grass lands spray bars which will making fighting fires a hell of a lot easier than how we have been fighting these fires previously it will save minutes when approaching certain fires which can make all the difference in containing a fire that can get out of control in seconds. :-) thank you to FCC COONAMBLE Also for all the ridgites we will be burning of the grass near card...inal and pandora street after 9am thursday morning with our local council guys so if you see smoke and call 000 we will already be there if it is a concern to certain people especially with asma or other medical condition you may want to prepare for a couple of hrs we will be seeking the right wind conditions so not to smother the town with smoke. We will be having on that day WNW winds which will head towards people living on the hatters flat opal field, sims hill and towards the pony fence opal field. At 9am when we propose to light up we should have about 14 km winds increasing to 20-25 Kims during the middle of the day rain chance 20% temperature for that day a nice 0 - 20 degrees for the day. So the township itself should not be affected by smoke at all. Any one wanting any further info or concerns please contact me roger kupfer captain. 0427438264. See more
