24.01.2022 These #tattoos are hilarious, because they are on someone else... but there is a serious message here ... please think before you ink ... tattoo removal is a long, painful and expensive process ... are you sure you want to live with these images on your body for the rest of your life?
23.01.2022 What is our role as medical practitioners when someone wants this or any other self-harming procedure? There is no medical reason to do these tattoos, or the other body modification procedures people are choosing these days... do we comply with their requests or do we leave them to feel the full force of their choices, knowing that if they know someone who is not qualified to operate will be doing it, this may deter them from making such choices...I feel we need to put our energy into public education about the risks and harms and irreversible nature of these procedures, rather than outlawing them, and indirectly sanctioning them by saying it is ok if a doctor does it... there are reports of horrendous complications from these tattoos, including having to remove the eye, and they cannot be treated with laser tattoo removal...
23.01.2022 It's great that we are asking the question...injecting known carcinogens into the body in such a way that the body cannot easily clear them, is known to cause s...hort-term and long-term auto-immune effects, and now we are starting to ask if this can lead to cancer....great question...the common sense answer is yes...whether anyone will want to 'prove' it is another question... 23.01.2022 This related article is a few years old, but highlights the fact that you can get severe #infections even from reputable #tattoo parlours, as the inks themselves are unregulated and may contain all sorts of things, from toxic and or carcinogenic chemicals and dyes, to various infectious organisms...#thinkbeforeyouink
20.01.2022 Another reminder (if anyone needed one) that you get more than you bargained for if you get a tattoo...this industry is not regulated and the inks contain all k...inds of substances including heavy metals and toxic chemicals...not to mention the risks of infection, scarring, autoimmune disease, cancer, and as this lady says, getting an ugly tattoo! 18.01.2022 #tattoos are permanent, unless removed surgically or with #laser tattoo removal, and can have far-reaching, even fatal, consequences...#thinkbeforeyouink
18.01.2022 I have just published a blog on #skin, which may just get you to #think before you #ink, or consider having your #tattoo removed if you already have one: http://www.lightwaves.com.au//skin-not-just-for-inking-its
16.01.2022 Just in case you are still thinking tattooing your eyeball is a good idea, have a look at this video...just don't watch it while you are eating! This man's eye had to be removed eventually due to excruciating pain...#tattoo #eyeball #dontdoit !
10.01.2022 Interesting article reflecting on the recent case of a man who came into an emergency department unconscious with a 'do not resuscitate' #tattoo on his chest...what would you do? We like to think that medicine is black and white, but there can be uncomfortable shades of grey...where all we have to guide us is our own moral compass...the moral of the story...don't get a tattoo unless you are sure you are willing to wear all the consequences...
09.01.2022 Just came across this article on #tattoo related complications...the incidence is probably much higher, as of those people surveyed, most went back to the tattoo parlour for advice, rather than seeing their doctor. If you do experience reactions like this, removing the tattoo with #laser will allow the skin to settle down and heal...
09.01.2022 Ok, this is gross, and I am not easily grossed out! Tattooing your eyeball is not a great idea, on any level. We are trained for 15-20 years before we are deeme...d fit to inject someone's eye, and yet people are going to practitioners with no such training and allowing them to inject toxic ink. It is dangerous, carries the risk of causing inflammation, excruciating pain and blindness, and may even lead to the eye being removed. This tattoo ink cannot be removed with laser ...it would explode the eyeball. I love the irony of the so-called inventor of the procedure (a body modification artist, not an eye specialist) saying this...what was his training? "I personally have not trained anyone else to do this procedure. I have appeared on various tv/news segments though, and have inspired many copycats worldwide," he wrote. "This is important to know because without the proper education, training, experience and guidance, these practitioners have caused vision impairments like blurred vision, spots or floaters, and even blindness. YES PEOPLE ARE NOW BLIND FROM EYEBALL TATTOOING."
08.01.2022 Interesting article suggesting that there is a minimal risk of contracting blood-borne viruses from newly tattooed donors, and that the current mandatory waiting period of four months between getting a #tattoo and donating #blood should be reviewed...
06.01.2022 Hello there! Due to the restrictions being enforced to try and slow the spread of coronavirus, we are unable to offer laser tattoo removal, skin treatments or scar treatments for now. But rest assured we are still here and ready to serve you when the restrictions are lifted. 06.01.2022 It's another year ... and you are still in the same body ... if you feel like you have moved on from the time when you got those old tattoos, we are here ... looking forward to seeing you and supporting you to restore your natural beauty ... with love, Anne
06.01.2022 This is a small sample size, but a study of dead bodies has shown the presence of #tattoo ink in lymph nodes...as soon as you get a tattoo, your body recognises... it as foreign and starts trying to get rid of it and never gives up...our tireless and fully committed white cells start munching away at the particles and remove them through the lymphatic system...this study puts paid to the argument that tattoo removal is dangerous because it spreads the ink...that has already happened! At least when you break the ink up into small particles with the laser, the body can actually clear it... See more
