25.01.2022 Have you subscribed to Lil'Bit's newsletter yet? No? Hmm, shame. I just sent out Christmas discount codes, freebies and special offers.... It's ok though, if you subscribe now I will let you in on the secret. Just head to the website and you will see a 'Subscribe' button just under the image of our beautiful Pretty Posy Room Spray. And don't worry, I won't inundate you with emails, just the occasional promotion and all the good stuff!

24.01.2022 Do something for me: walk into the kitchen, inhale, then exhale. Get a whiff of something stale? Even if your cooking area is technically the heart of your home, it’s also usually the primary source of poor indoor air quality thanks to smoke, moisture, and off-gassing released from synthetic materials in cabinets and walls. And we haven’t even gotten to cooking odors yet. Strong smells in the kitchen can permeate softer materials like curtains, furniture, walls, and carpets.... Flooring, drawers, pantries, and cabinets can also trap food smells. So what can you do to better ventilate your space and get rid of the lingering reek of last night’s scallops or this morning’s oniony omelette? Placing a bowl of white vinegar on the counter overnight can do wonders. The liquid will dissipate into the air and absorb some of the odours. If the room still doesn’t pass the sniff test, put a saucepan on the stove and fill it with a cup of water and three tablespoons of vinegar. Bring the water to a boil, lower to a simmer, and allow the steam from the uncovered pot to steam up the kitchen. Vacuum Regularly Chemicals latch on to dust. If you are picking up on a particular stench, sprinkle the ground with baking soda, let it sit for 30 minutes, then switch on the vacuum and suck it up! Freshen Up the Refrigerator After you’re done vacuuming, store the open box of baking soda in the back of the refrigerator. Similar to vinegar, it absorbs smells, not masks them. If you want to make the fridge smell good at the same time, add a few drops of essential oils (I recommend using orange, lemon, and peppermint). Swear by Your Range Hood and Windows Cross-ventilation is key, especially during the wintertime when indoor air pollution is at its worst. Your exhaust fan is your best friend (and the most efficient way to stop cooking odors from changing the scent of your space). If you don’t have a fan, pop open a window while you cook. Combat Spills With Salt Did your lasagna bubble over in the oven? Quickly shower some salt over the mess once the dish is out and let it sit a few minutes, then use a spatula to remove it. That way, you’ll avoid burning (and filling your kitchen with smoke) next time you turn on the oven. Deep Clean the Walls If left to linger too long, greasy meat smells can seep into the walls. Take action by scrubbing down the walls with warm water, dish soap, and a rag. Ta-da!

24.01.2022 I just started reading this AMAZING book my sister-in-law gave me for my birthday. I highly recommend this fascinating look at our relationship with recycling and how our psychology around recycling and reusing works. 'Rummage tells the overlooked story of our throwaway past. Emily Cockayne extracts glittering gems from the rubbish pile of centuries past and introduces us to the visionaries, crooks and everyday do-gooders who have shaped the material world we live in today - ...like the fancy ladies of the First World War who turned dog hair into yarn, or the Victorian gentlemen selling pianofortes made from papier-mache, or the hapless public servants coaxing people into giving up their railings for the greater good. In this original and fascinating new history, Cockayne illuminates our relationship to our rubbish: from the simple question of how we reuse and recycle things (and which is better), to all the weird and wonderful ways it's been done in the past. She exposes the hidden work (often done by women) that has gone into shaping the world for each future generation, and she shows what lessons can be drawn from the past to address urgent questions of our waste today.' It raises some challenging questions and shines a light on our perceptions of waste and recycling. :)

22.01.2022 Amazing Customer Service shout out to TNT Australia. A large order of 13 boxes of stock left Lil'Bit last week for QLD. This morning I got a call from a Carl, a wonderful gentleman at TNT who advised me that one of the boxes was damaged and 3 room sprays inside split, leaking everywhere. He personally unpacked the box, cleaned and inspected the remaining bottles and sent me pictures of the stock to be sure I was happy for him to personally repack and send it on for me.... He then sent me pictures of the 3 damaged bottles so I can replace them and was so apologetic, he could not have done more to help. On the upside, he now smells wonderful and his colleagues have been following him around all morning smelling him Alas it's rare to get this kind of service and it deserves a shout out! Thanks Carl! 10.01.2022 OIL OF THE MONTH - Rosemary The word ‘Rosemary’ comes from the Latin; ‘Rosmarinus’, translating to ‘Dew of the Sea’. With its drought-resistant properties in mind, this apt name denotes its ability to grow well in temperate coastal regions. During the Middle Ages, the oil was thought to dispel negativity. In fact, merchants would hire perfumiers to infuse their shops with rosemary oil to cleanse the space and promote prosperity.

10.01.2022 Awww, how lovely is this article from The Social Catalog Blush.

Made with 100% organic ingredients in a Castile soap base and scented with teaberry and wintergreen essential oils your hands will come away fresh, clean, smooth and smelling amazing.

04.01.2022 Today is my mum's 72nd Birthday, and while many people are winding down their lives at this point, she shows no signs of stopping. My mum, Kaz, is the inspiration for so much I do. She and I are two peas in a pod (scarily so) but it was she who got me interested in aromatherapy, essential oils and herbalism.....along with so many other things. We share passions for so much but we both agree that without scent our lives would be 'gray'. ... We have to smell everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! Scent to us is what gives everyday items soul, feeling and life essence. It can take us places we may never go, remind us of experiences, family, friends and even the bad smells have their place. Life is so full of beauty and to me, scent is what gives it all colour. So thank you mum, thank you for being my best buddy, for your encouragement, love, zest for life and always making me laugh. You make my life better. If I could be half the woman you are I would be proud. So please join me in wshing my mama a happy, happy day! XX

03.01.2022 And this is why I will ONLY use the purest essential oils. Not all are created equal.....

01.01.2022 Covid has many of us down in the dumps, especially us Victorians who are trying to stay positive amidst the scorn and disdain of much of the rest of Australia. But even though we can't change the current global mess, we can decide how we deal with it. I've been through some pretty dark days in the last 6 months. Some days I wake up with a spring in my step and I'm ready to face the world, other days I wonder if it's even worth getting up because today will be the same. ... The same as every, single, day for the past 6 months. More work stress, more bad news, more worry, more isolated, more angry and more over it. But then I remember where I live, that Australia is one of the best places to live in the world. I look past what I'm 'missing out on' and see that everything I have had until now has been a privilege, not a right. I chose to practice gratitude. It's been HUGELY powerful and has helped me get up each day and embrace life once again. Many of us have so much yet we moan that we are unable to travel for a year or two. We scream blue murder if the grocery store is out of our special brand of coffee or we cant get what we want when we want it. This is how most of the world lives every day. With no way out and no help from anyone. Be grateful, make a list daily of what you have that others may not and I tell you what, the world doesn't seem so bad after all :)
