25.01.2022 The Importance of Fitting Ballet Shoes It is very important to have your child’s ballet shoes fitted correctly. Doing so will help them develop proper technique as well as helping prevent injury to their feet. Fitting ballet shoes is not the same as fitting normal street shoes. There should be minimal growing space in the toe, and the shoe should fit like a glove with the toes flat inside the shoes. ... Too much extra room will not show a proper arch and it is important for your dance teacher to see the shape of your child’s foot while in class in order to give the best corrections. If the shoe is too large, the dancer will have difficulty when articulating their feet, and the shoe will become baggy. Shoes with too much room in the toe won’t last as long either, as there will be more wear and tear in the wrong places. Ill fitting shoes are also a safety concern. Children can trip, especially when walking on their tippy toes. For a great shoe fitting, call into Lil Bit of Grace, we will be happy to fit you with all your dance needs.

24.01.2022 Now is a great time to clean out your dance bag! Get rid of everything from your dance bag that you don’t need. Tights with holes in them? Bin! Mismatched socks? Bin! ... Empty deodorant cans? Yep, BIN! Now turn that bag inside out, get the vacuum and suck up all the dirt, crumbs and whatever else you may have growing in there Is your bag safe to put in the washing machine? If so, chuck it in and let it have a good old wash. If not, get those antibacterial wipes out and wipe away! Once your bag has dried, it’s time to start fresh with only your essential dance items going inside..we recommend a spare shirt, sweat towel, spare pair of tights, and the shoes you will need for the day’s lesson. Make use of the side pockets, pack your hair brush and comb, spare hair ties, bobby pins, deodorant, band aids, tape. To keep your dance bag stink free, here’s a few tips: Fill a sock with baking soda and pop inside your bag Coffee grounds or beans are another excellent odour absorber..as the coffee smell fades, it will take the sweaty shoe smell with it. Pop them in an old sock or stocking. Put a cake of soap inside a stocking or mesh bag and throw it in your bag But if your dance bag is too far gone for help, come in and see us at Lil Bit of Grace and let us arrange an new one for you!

24.01.2022 Keeping your dance shoes clean & smell free will pro long their life. Here’s how: The best way to deodorize your dance shoes is to keep them smell free from the dry beginning. Feet sweat. They sweat more than any other part of your body. When you are dancing, the sweat glands in your feet activate to keep you cooler. When you sweat, the sweat dries up and cools you down, but that is not the case while your in dance class or performing. Your shoes trap the sweat and bacteria... multiplies * Keep your feet clean: This may seem obvious, but washing feet with soap and drying them well before you put your shoes on is the first step to being smell free * Wear Tights or socks: A lot of students hate wearing tights. Wearing clean tights or socks can absorb the moisture and help prevent odour * Dance shoes are only for the studio & stage: You should only wear your dance shoes in the studio or on stage. Rough surfaces such as concrete are one sure way to put holes in your shoes, not to mention the dirt you will pick up and carry around in the bottom of your shoes. * Air them out: Make sure your shoes dry out thoroughly after each use. Most dance bags have Look for bags have a mesh pocket on the outside, made of for carrying your shoes home. If you don’t let your dance shoes air out, the dampness is a breading ground for bacteria, and as bacteria grows..so does the smell! * Baking Soda absorbs moisture: Sprinkle some in your shoes to keep them fresh and dry. * Dryer sheets: This is a quick and easy way to keep them fresh! * Tea Tree Oil: a natural remedy, keeps everything fresher for longer. Mix some up in a spray bottle and give those shoes a spritz at the end of class. * Pop then in the freezer! Yes, it works! Put your shoes in a Ziploc bag and freezing them overnight. It kills the bacteria as well as the smell.

12.01.2022 Your teacher isn’t just nagging you when they ask for leotards to be worn. They actually do serve very important purposes. Wearing a leotard in ballet class is essential to being taught correct technique. Your teacher can see things like hip alignment, core activation and turnout rotation. If you wear loose fitting clothing, your teacher cannot easily assess and correct these things. Wearing a leotard is also essential in acrobatics classes. Loose fitting clothing is not saf...e when students are tipping themselves upside down, and as students progress to tumbling and tricks, the teacher needs to be able to spot you to execute the tricks safely. They certainly don’t need to get their arm tangled in your loose t-shirt and risk hurting themselves as well as the student. If you need to update your leotard wardrobe, come into the shop and have a browse through our catalogues. There’s so many stunning colours, and the cuts are really flattering.
