24.01.2022 Traveling Children and Good Manners We all seen and heard someone else's kids behaving badly on a long-haul flight. But don't automatically blame the young travellers. While not always true I do believe that kids who misbehave usually do so because they are allowed to by their parents. As a family we travelled extensively with our children, aged 11, 5 and 5. While some flights went smoother than others and admittedly I've always boarded with some apprehension and a quiet pray...er: "Please, let my kids behave." And they have most of the time! I've taught them travel manners from a young age. It pays off as they know how to behave because traveling is such a great family time! Below are some tips which might help you~ (1) No kicking Under no circumstances should your child kick the seat in front. I usually remove my children's shoes on long-haul flights, just in case they kick accidentally. (2) Be prepared Have your child carry a separate bag, with carefully chosen boredom busters inside. Keep smaller toys and games in Ziploc bags, for easy access. There's nothing more frustrating than searching a backpack for one elusive piece of Lego. (3) Ensure your child always wears shoes to the toilet. You'd be surprised how many people don't. (4) Don't let your child run up and down the aisles, ever. They need to learn to be patient, and to sit in their seats. Children who run along the aisles with parents behind, smiling wearily, are irritating for all other passengers. If your child is restless, take him or her regularly to the back of the plane to stretch and play a few games. Then it's back to the seat. (5) Don't let your child stand up and peer over the seat at the passengers behind. What might appear cute to you can wear thin on others quickly. (6) For younger children, break the flight into sections to help pass the time: sleep time, play time, reading time, movie time, meal time, stretching time. (7) Encourage your child to play or read alone. You shouldn't be expected to provide constant entertainment. A bit of effort in this department when they're younger means you'll have independent little travellers before you know it. (8) Reinforce the need to be polite, patient and quiet. Children need to know that flight attendants have other people to deal with, and they are not the only ones on the plane. If children know what is expected of them, they will most likely exceed your expectations. Travel safe A.

22.01.2022 Jet lag can occur any time you travel quickly across two or more time zones. The more time zones you cross, the more likely you experience Jet Lag and the longer and more intense the symptoms are likely to be. Below are 8 tips on how to deal with jet lag, especially when you're traveling with kids: 1. Change your routine Try to gradually shift your sleeping and eating times at least 3 days before departure to coincide with those at your destination. Once you arrive, ado...pt the local time for your daily routine. Once arrived, try to keep the bedtime routines from home as much as possible. 2. Try to rest when you travel So that you don't arrive at your destination overtired, try to get as much rest as possible. This is especially important when youre traveling overnight or flying west to east. Travel is extremely tiring, and the more rest your body gets en route the more prepared youll be to deal with the stresses of jet lag. 3. Stay hydrated Keep your fluids up, try to drink something every hour even if you dont feel thirsty. Commercial airplanes have very low humidity. This can lead to you becoming dehydrated. Drink plenty of water the days before your flight as well as during and following your flight. Dehydration can cause you to become run down and make it easier to pick up viruses. 4. Go outside and be active Once you have arrived at your destination try to keep active during the day as it will prevent you getting sleepy. When you expose yourself to sunlight it can really help reset your out-of-whack internal clock. Go for a walk, find a nice playground! 5. Try to stay awake until it's bedtime This is a tricky one and admittedly I have failed this on almost every trip. It can be extremely difficult for you and your kids to go to bed at the right time in your new time zone. This is particularly true in the first few days in your new time zone. Try to keep your kids occupied enough that they do stay awake. 6. Eat before you sleep Your body will get hungry in the middle of the night if it's believes its dinner time or lunch time. Try to eat something before you go to bed as it might trick your body into sleeping longer! 7. Try again! Adjusting to the new time zone is easier if you try to get your body into the new "rhythm" as soon as possible. If you can convince yourself and kid(s) to sleep for just an extra hour or two, it can definitely help reset you internal clocks. 8. Sleep in a dark room Turn off lights and close all curtains as it can help both with sleeping longer and falling back to sleep if you or your child wakes up in the middle of the night.

22.01.2022 Is your passport still valid!? Last Thursday we renewed the passports of our whole family. It is important to know the validity date of your passport as time does fly! Note that some passports are only valid for 5 years. Some countries advice their citizens to renew their passport approximately nine months before it expires. Certain countries require passports to remain valid for up to six months after your trip. Some airlines do not allow you to board if you don't meet this ...requirement. This is particularly true when travelling to the US. Processing a passport application can take two to three weeks to process, provided the application and documents you submitted are correct and complete. A little bit of paper work but hopefully years of exciting travel ahead! A.

19.01.2022 Airline policies for families vary widely. Many rules, including whether to allow pre-boarding, are at the discretion of the gate agent. The best advice is to call ahead and ask the following questions, but be prepared for possible changes at the gate. Check out our website for a checklist of questions to ask your airline. Do you have any good questions or comments please let us know!
19.01.2022 Families could be segregated from other passengers on planes or banned from flying on certain flights if campaigners hoping to persuade airlines to introduce adult-only flights get their way. What do you think?
