Also spelt muhallebi, legend has it that this sweet milk pudding was introduced in the late seventh century to an Arab general, Al-Muhallab ibn Abi Sufra, who liked it so much that he named it after himself! If we could name our mahalabia after ourselves. we would too! Because we reckon it’s pretty darn good... Served with berries, sesame snap, meringue and a rose and berry reduction, it’s light, delicately flavoured and the perfect jiggly mouthful. 22.01.2022 Middle East Mondays Lillah means ‘beautiful night’ in Arabic, and our menu is a celebration of Middle Eastern cuisine. Every Monday, we’ll be sharing the cultural significance behind your favourite Lillah dishes and sides. Ever tried kohlrabi? It’s basically the coleslaw of the Middle East! It belongs to the cabbage family and, eaten raw, tastes a bit like a mild sweet radish or cauliflower stalk. Thinly shaved, or cut into batons or dice, its great with carrot or apple in a slaw or stir-fry it’s crunchy and refreshing, with a little peppery kick for added interest. Our chef uses cured kohlrabi in our amazing new dish: (gluten-free) Pan Fried King Ocean Trout dish - artichoke puree, cured kohlrabi, chilli chutney (pictured : Jude Cohen)
