25.01.2022 Celebrating Harmony Week Monday, 20th March Friday, 24th March 2017. Last week we celebrated Harmony week. We used this celebratory week to gage a sense of belonging in the world and understand different cultures.... Here at Lilly Pilly, we have families and educators with various cultural backgrounds, we used this week to embrace these cultures and learn more about them. The countries we will be exploring are Switzerland, New Zealand, Japan, India, Tonga, Vietnam and Italy. These choices were influenced from our friends here at Lilly Pilly. Throughout the week we engaged through games, role play, dancing, videos, food tasting and many more exiting activities. We still currently have available spots and are still taking enrolments. Please like & share with all of your friends. Thank you, Lilly Pilly Staff.

The children loved participating in this activity. We are still seeking enrolment and have available spots. Like & share with all of your friends and family.

22.01.2022 Fire Evacuations! Throughout the past few weeks, we have been practising our fire drills and preparing the children for fire emergencies. Through the use of activities, stories, role play and drills, the children are now all aware of the hazards of a fire and they all know exactly what to do in case of an emergency here at Lilly Pilly.... Our back wall at Lilly Pilly is filled with educational, mixed media posters to raise the awareness of fire safety.

18.01.2022 This week one of our educators donated two massive bags of bananas to us here at Lilly Pilly. This meant that it was now time to brain storm some ideas of ways to use this abundant of fruit. We decided to introduce a new recipe, banana pancakes. ... Banana pancakes is a very simple and healthy recipe. It only has two ingredients; bananas and eggs. You can even add cinnamon for extra flavour. The children played a big part of this cooking experience, mashing the bananas themselves and mixing in the fresh eggs. We were then able to enjoy them after we ate our lunch, and they were DELICIOUS! But where do these ingredients come from? Before we started we used this time to group together and discuss where these ingredients came from. Although the bananas had been donated by Abby, they had originally been grown on a tree. And the eggs had been brought from the supermarket, but before that they were laid from a chicken. The children all demonstrated a strong understanding of where these ingredients came from. Does anybody else have any great healthy recipes to share with us?

15.01.2022 Sensory Sensation! Today the children engaged in a very fun and very messy sensory play activity! The children mixed up a big tub of shaving gel, and continued mixing until it turned into a thick, white cream! This was lots and lots of fun for our children, their faces lit up with excitement as their hands got sticky and gooey.... To extend on this activity, we had lots of left over cream so we turned it into pastel puffy paint! This looked fantastic!

10.01.2022 Fire Safety! This week we were visited by one of our children’s grandfathers, Alan. Alan is a retired fire and rescue worker. On Thursday Alan came in to talk about fire and safety and what we need to think about in case we are ever in an emergency situation.... The children were provided with the opportunity to try on a variety of fire helmets, this was very very exciting! To follow up on this very special visit, the children all participated in a role play based experience and pretend that they were fire fighters. This was a very fun and important activity for the children to be involved in. It is very important that children are aware of what to do when faced with an emergency. We are still seeking enrolments and have available spots. Like & share with all of your friends and family!

09.01.2022 Cooking fun! This year we have been learning Japanese. This has been implemented through our weekly Japanese lessons with Edina, and through the ELLA Japanese Program on the iPads. The children have really enjoyed the Japanese cooking game which is in the ELLA program. They are provided with recipes, where they follow the instructions in English then again in Japanese.... Today we extended on this by providing the children with the opportunity to create their own cake! Except we had to read our instructions in Japanese. With the use of the big teachers iPad, we followed the apps instructions and created a delicious, moist butter cake. The children absolutely loved participating in this activity, and insisted that we shared to recipe so all of our parents can see what we made. Our recipe in English / Japanese: 3 Eggs (Tamago) 2 Cups of flour (Komugiko) One cup of sugar (Satou) One cup of milk (Miruku) One stick of butter (Bataa) This activity was lots of fun! It provided the children to learn about the Japanese culture through a fun and unique way.. and it was delicious!!
