25.01.2022 Face sheilds are so much better than masks I reckon! Do you want one? Theres a wonderful human making them for $1 each and if you pay more he makes more for charity. DM me for dets. X
25.01.2022 Not all families have dads. Most solo mums get some time out. Even though it's tough that I virtually never get a break we have the most incredible connection that is undoubtedly because we're it. I rarely mind that there's no man around but tonight I think I spent 10 minutes trying to get a lid off a container! Harry wishes he had a dad. And a cuddle with an adult male would be nice once in a while. ... And we miss you dad. Every other father's day we've been able to celebrate it with you. Now Harry really does have very few men in his life. If you know any goos ones, please send them our way!
25.01.2022 Sneak peak... I am really excited to be days away from launching this new program. I think of myself as a PT for your mind and this is the program that puts it all at your fingertips. After all "Your mind is the basis of everything you experience in life and of every contribution you can make to the lives of others. Given this fact, it makes sense to train it." Couldnt agree more Sam Harris! (Amazing human, Waking Up App creator, meditation teacher and neuroscientist).... Five virtual stress management consults will: - Ignite your motivation for developing new healthy habits. - Demystify the neuroscience of flow and less stress. - Teach you easy practices to manage time. - Help you prioritise healthy food, getting active and enough sleep. - Demystify mindfulness meditation so you can lock in your meditation practice. - Uncover self-limiting beliefs so you can rewrite your story. - Provide a clear plan for the future for more flow and less stress. Good things come to those who wait. But if you cant schedule a call with me to find out more here: http://ow.ly/g8Cs50A2x6v Susie x
25.01.2022 Deep breathing - you really can't go past it for settling the stress response. (I need to do some right now as posting vids is not my fave thing to do!) You can do it throughout the day to keep your mojo alive, and it's th perfect thing to do when the sh*t hits the fan and you're losing your cool. Most of us know this, many of us encourage our kids to do it, but we rarely stop and do it ourselves.... Getting really familiar with deep breathing is a seriously good idea if you want to make friends with stress, because let's face it, it's a part of any full and satisfying life at the best of times. Why not stop and do it right now, 8 to 10 deep, long, slow, gentle breaths. Then tell me in the comments how it made you feel. PS The best way to get your kids to do something is to model it, often.
24.01.2022 Do you believe you deserve all the goodness life has to offer? If not, the latest edition of the Staying Cool newsletter is for you. Here's the link: https://mailchi.mp/09a843be2fbf/staying-cool-23 As Kristin Neff, who has studied self-compassion a LOT, points out self-compassion is inversely associated with psychopathology. In other words, learning to care deeply for and be kind to yourself appears to protect against mental illness. ... YAY! So, what are you waiting for? It's my experience while helping women cope with the juggle that many of us are in seriously short supply of self-compassion. We are very often our worst critics having so often internalised a tonne of negative messages because such high expectations are placed on women in our society over our lifetimes. But the cool thing is, you can get better at being kind to yourself. It won’t just happen though. It’s a process that takes time and commitment. But it is life-changing. My inner critic was pretty much silenced more than 10 years ago when I committed to meditation and mindfulness, as learning to be more mindful teaches you self-compassion. There are some great meditations to get the ball rolling in the newsletter too. What’s a story about yourself that’s not serving you that you can choose to rewrite by having more self-compassion? Or perhaps you have already shed a story by being kinder to yourself. Please share in the comments. I’d love to know. One of my main ones is that I am just as valuable as women who lucky enough to be in loving relationships. Suse x . . #newsletter #stressmanagement #parentwellbeing
24.01.2022 To everyone who follows this page, I wanted to let you know that I am not going to be posting here very often going forward. It required too much work to get enough engagement to make it worthwhile. I really want to keep sharing info with you but with one or 2 only people responding when I post, and with my priority being working with people directly instead of spending time posting on here, Ive decided to prioritise other places to share info. So, if you would like to co...ntinue getting regular practical insights from me, check out my latest blog here and at the bottom of the page you can sign up to the fortnightly Lilo Wellness newsletter Staying cool when the heat is on at the bottom of the post. Its a long one, and I feel like its one of my best so stick with it. :) I really enjoyed writing it as it covers many of my favourite topics, creativity as therapy, flow, and how you can get creative for social justice. And has some practical ideas to keep you sane right now, including a colouring project by Andrew Footit of the word courage pictured. You can also follow me on Twitter, Linked In and Lilo Wellness on Insta. https://lilowellness.com.au/creativity-v-hopelessness/ Love yas! Suse xx
23.01.2022 Oh dear. The Vic government tells me I need a permit to go home, but the website says come back later. We're leaving for the airport at 6.45 tom am. It's just shy of 9pm. The hotline for permits only operates till 8 pm. Perhaps we should just stay here. I'm going to miss this place. Perhaps they'll put us in hotel quarantine for 2 weeks when we get home. I'm not getting on a plane unless I have a permit... fun and games.

23.01.2022 Super excited to have teamed up with @Engage Health to provide Corporate Mental Health Checks remotely to support people #WFH. With teams at home, it can be hard to assess how they are travelling in terms of their mental wellbeing. This is a great way to support them to gain skills and knowledge to build resilience for the longer term. Get in touch with [email protected] for more info
23.01.2022 Meet my son Harry. That's him in his blue lycra body stocking. Part of the sensory 'diet' he is having during all waking hours so that he can function. He uses chewie toys, (something to chew on), wears compression clothing, has fiddle toys, a therapy swing and bounces on the mini tramp in our living room at every opportunity. This helps him regulate his senses and therefore his emotions.... All day everyday, the amount of planning, anticipating, redirecting, distracting, reassuring, researching, attending appointments, claiming, documenting etc. that I do to meet his needs is insane. This mental load is one of the reasons parents, and particularly mums, of kids with special needs are so often WAYYY more stressed than we should be. If you can relate, or you know someone else who is under the pump in this way, check out our FREE stress management course for parents of kids with special needs by heading to the link in our bio. I'm so happy to be able to provide this course for free! I really hope it's helpful. x
23.01.2022 Lilo's Mission: We inspire and educate people to care deeply for themselves and one another. We do this by teaching people practical, simple ways to manage stress and develop awareness. This empowers them to lift themselves to new heights taking others with them maximising thier impact for the collective good. ... Schedule a complimentary 20 minute consult to find out how we can help you manage stress and experience more flow by visiting our bio. Or DM me any time. Susie x
22.01.2022 The wellbeing of mum's and dads, and especially parents of kids who are neurodiverse or have special needs, is of paramount importance. We NEED support, understanding and accommodations at work if we are to be able to get through this time in one piece. And even more so right now in the face of the new incredibly tight restrictions on movement here in Melbourne. If this is you, I urge you to feel OK about talking about your struggles, with friends, family and work colleague...s. Please talk to your boss about the reality of the challenges you're dealing with. If you are a manager and you want to support your parents, I am in the process of writing 10 articles for a web resource on important topics for parent's wellbeing. Topics include: Mental Wellbeing. Is it time to seek help? Dealing with difficult thoughts and feelings. Making friends with stress. And a whole heap more. If you think some content such as this would help people where you work, don't hesitate to get in touch. And I'm always available for a complimentary sess. to help you get clear on some simple, practical tools for less stress. These one off sessions will remain complimentary until this nightmare has settled right down. DM me any time for how to book in at a time that suits. Suse x
22.01.2022 Next to me here on the wall are my son's visual cards to help him get dressed in the morning. If you swipe left you'll see the teeth brushing one in the bathroom and the morning and evening routine ones on the fridge plus a simple reward tick sheet for 'going with the flow' to help Harry with stuck thinking and the need to negotiate doing all the things he needs to do - with help from me usually - to get us out the door. Doesn't do much for interior decorating but goodness... me these strategies make a MASSIVE difference to our days. They make my life so much easier fir me. But most importantly they make his life so much easier as they give him just that tiny bit more impetus to be able to do these everyday things. I struggle with the school of thought that focusing on 'behaviours' is problem and that therefore don't dig rewards as a strategy. I agree with the part about looking beyond the behaviours, that focusing just on behaviours is a problem and that connection is more important, but the idea that using something external for motivation is a problem doesn't wash with me as I know how helpful it is to me to have external motivators - such as accountability to others. It's really time consuming getting set up like this too. I wish I'd gotten this organised a good while back but it all takes time on this journey. If you have neurodivergent child, what strategies do you find most helpful? And if you want more info on how I made these visuals (it's really easy), get in touch. x
22.01.2022 This music is incredible! The power of music, singing, dance and all variations on this theme can't be overstated for helping us live low stress lives. With love, Susie
20.01.2022 If you want to understand the people in your life with #ADHD, and believe me, there are people in your life with ADHD because it is very, very common (5-6% of people) then check out this edition of Insight tonight at 8.30 on @sbs_australia It is a very misunderstood condition with tonnes of stigma surrounding both it and of course the incredibly effective treatment for it. I'd really appreciate it if you took the time to find out more about it. Understanding and acceptance ...is everything for those of us who are living with the challenges it causes, even with effective treatment. None of us are perfect and the more we realise that our strengths are what define us, not our weaknesses and stop expecting ourselves and everyone else to be good at everything, the better off we will all be, especially those of us with disabilities. Initially, I thought calling ADHD a #disability seems sensational, but it affects EVERY part of my life every day. And that is the definition of a disability - and I realised that we need to embrace the word and not shy away from it. After all, we're all going to have disabilities as we age. The issue is not being disabled, it's our attitude towards disability that is a problem! So let's all get over it I say! Thanks for reading and hopefully watching! Suse x
20.01.2022 Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. Lets get behind our Indigenous brothers and sisters and celebrate National Reconciliation Week. Thank you for sharing your home with us. ... #reconciliation @inthistogether_2020
19.01.2022 Whats the single most important habit youve ever formed and why? Forming habits is like lighting a fire. The spark is our reason we want something to change, what motivates us internally.... But the oxygen comes from the environment. If you want to develop a new habit, get really clear on WHY. Then create the context that IGNITES that spark and FEEDS your fire. This a great article. Enjoy! http://ow.ly/LmYe50Ah78f
19.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone! Replenish. This is the word that springs to mind for me as my aim for this holiday. I feel as though I have been in survival mode for the last month or so... Most of my rituals and routines have been up the spout which happens when we're in fight flight too much of the time - despite some meditation, breathing etc. But clearly not enough. Pretty funny really seeing as more than one friend heard me on a rerun of @thisworkinglife on Radio National th...is week with me talking about my rituals - waking at 5.30, gratitde practice, planning my days, meditation, exercise etc. Ha! My sleep has been impacted and I have a cold sore... And our holiday got off to a crap start as my six year old, Harry, who is autistic was sent into a 'sensory meltdown' on and off for the last few days after our flight to Tassie in a small, VERY loud plane (despite headphones). But he's coming good (thank f*ck) and today, for the first time in a long time I feel as though I can take a breath. Now really is a great time to set intentions, but more important than strict routines right now in my mind is rest, being filled up with love from family and friends, and simply being. Happy 2021 everyone! Thanks so much for your support in 2021. Wishing you all the most wonderful year. Love Suse
18.01.2022 Have you ever considered that you might be neurodivergent? Neither had I! I'd really appreciate it if you could read this article as I think the world needs to hear these stories. Many people in your life are neurodivergent and even you may be. It is only because of the stigma associated with my condition that I didn't know many, many years earlier. In the three or so months since I began treatment the amount I have been able to achieve in my business has blown my mind! Big ...things are coming! No wonder I'm so passionate about helping people manage stress. These practices are the only reason I no longer have terrible mental health problems like most people with this condition who don't receive treatment and/or support. x http://ow.ly/dO3l50AC7Vq
18.01.2022 How are you traveling mamas (and some papas, but let's be real, most of the extra business this time of year effects mamas...). I so hope you're having some kind of break. What's one thing you are looking forward to doing that you haven't been able to for ages? For me it's reading. I always read at night but it takes an awfully long time to get through a book because I'm so knackered that I don't get through much before I'm on the nod. ... I'm planning on devouring a few books. I'll get cosy with my little one, he can watch a movie with headphones and I will read instead of doing work or housework like a usually do. If you want to get off on the right foot in the New Year the Reset for more Flow and less Stress program prices are increasing on Jan 1st so now is a great time to lock one in. As this already incredibly stressful year comes into the end of year madness, could your team do with some Move and Relax sessions? DM me if you want more info. Susie x
18.01.2022 As so many of us head back to work, I wanted to talk about an important topic. . 18.01.2022 This is how I feel when I get a testimonial like this! Working with Susie at Lilo Wellness enabled me to work on entrenched issues in a safe place. I found her focus and assistance with goal setting extremely helpful. I have never meditated before but Susie taught me how to do it in such a simple manner that I am now hooked and meditate everyday. ... To have assistance to move from my busy stressful life to a more mindful life has been transformational. In five short weeks she has shown me that I have the power to choose how I live my life and the lessons I have learnt I am now implementing on a daily basis. I highly recommend Susie and Lilo Wellness. So my pleasure Minnie! Happy dance! One way to suss what were on about at Lilo is to sign up to our fortnightly newsletter which is jam packed with curated and created content to help you experience more flow and less stress. 17.01.2022 What research is finding out about the relaxation responses effect on our genes is astounding. here is what they found (in the study)... The relaxation response turns on genes involved in the production of energy by mitochondria, which are the batteries of the cell. The relaxation response suppresses inflammation and turns on genes that dampen oxidative stress. This is analogous to reducing body rust. The relaxation response turns on genes increasing insulin production, wh...ich has the potential to result in better blood sugar regulation. The relaxation response also has an anti-aging effect, in that it preserves the ends of your chromosomes called telomeres." And thats just on our genes! So, Im genuinely curious, Id love to know, how do you activate your relaxation response? https://blog.usejournal.com/your-brain-on-meditation-344a63
17.01.2022 It hasn't been easy, but finally, we are thriving. Mostly! Harry is in the bath right now and is way overstimulated... hopefully it will calm him down. Thanks Smart Healthy Women for sharing my story. x
17.01.2022 Moving story alert... It's AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH - Please read this post to gain just a little bit more awareness of what autism is and how we can all show more understanding and make our communities better places for #autistic people, young and old. I am SO impressed with the inclusiveness of my boy's school after his first semester there as a preppy. ... On Thursday I went to their outdoor, end of term community assembly which is run by the school captains and out of the blue they called my little guy up to do some 'beat-boxing'. For those of you who don't know much about autism, repetitive movements, clicking, humming and more are all types of 'stimming' or self-stimulatory behaviour and it helps autistic people feel calm and centred because their senses work in a very different way to most people's. They followed this by getting someone up to finish a Rubics cube as quickly as possible. Then they talked about the things that make us who we are, what makes us special. It wasn't a token award for participation. It was true inclusion and this is HUGE. I cried, quite a lot! Luckily I had sunnies on! I was so proud of my boy! He was so proud of himself. The best thing is, it was all initiated by the kids. It wasn't in the least manufactured as a way to make Harry FEEL included. They genuinely love his 'quirky' ways. School is still tough for him, our education system is not set up for neurodivergent kids. But they work very hard on inclusion and helping kids 'regulate' when they're not coping. Am pinching myself! Here he is clicking and clapping away at the NGV recently.
16.01.2022 Providing "Move & Relax" sessions for nurses via Zoom during stage four lockdown here in Melbourne is something Im SO pleased I can do for them. As the name suggests, theyre a combo of gentle movement/stretching & simple, practical relaxation exercises. If you think this is something that would benefit your team/s, email me at [email protected] so I can tailor some sessions to your needs. ... To all the nurses working through this crazy time with the numbers of people hospitalised and in ICU climbing every day and so many health-workers among the cases thank you from the bottom of my heart.
16.01.2022 Feelings of intense frustration and foreboding are so justified right now. Especially here in Victoria where restrictions have been increased, and as a result #WFH, social isolation and the financial implications have no end in sight. It sucks While theres not much we can do about these challenges we can use this time to develop skills to help us cope as best we can.... I have designed this program witj precisely this context in mind. Sessions are brief, info is streamlined and practical skills are the focus. You can have a taste of one of the techniques sent to you by clicking below. Group discounts are available so you can support your teams mental wellbeing too. Never has there been a better time to do so. Questions? Book a call to have them answered here: http://ow.ly/5Ulh50AdSM4 http://ow.ly/L6lH50AdSM8
16.01.2022 It was SO great to talk to Jodi from Circle In for their webinar last week about helping parents of kids with special needs manage stress a topic so dear to my heart. "Your words of wisdom resonated with so many and the feedback has been incredible." Wow... That is so nice to hear Jodi! I just really hope that something I said made a real difference to even just one parents peace of mind. ... Its a little over a year ago that my 5 y.o., Harry, was diagnosed with autism. Things are so much easier than they were but its still often challenging on many levels. And as Jodi wisely pointed out, when our little ones have a condition that is largely invisible this brings specific challenges. People - family, friends, workplaces, colleagues - dont know that they, and therefore YOU as their parent, need the support that we do. Teaching people about stress management is as much about giving them permission and the skills to seek support, whatever that might look like, in an effective way. DM me or comment below if you can relate. Its great to connect with others who get it. Suse x
16.01.2022 Resilience. Flipping your story from one where hardship is the main theme to one of strength can obliterate shame. This can have a profound impact on your mental health. Is it time for you to redefine your story? Do you need to strengthen your mental fortitude to ensure you and your family can thrive despite everything thats going on around you?... In the Reset for more flow and less stress program I will walk you through a simple process that helps you uncover your resilience. And enables you to stop struggling and start flowing. 15.01.2022 Three more days until prices increase from $349 to $599 for our 5 session private programs. Then I promise I'll stop going on about them! There are links to them both in my bio. And here's a recent testimonial: "I am pretty self-aware and do a lot of reflecting, but the time spent with Susie was completely life-changing. For the first time in my long life I can actually make sense of behaviours, actions and beliefs. I can finally begin to tell myself a different story. Whe...n I saw my psych today she was really excited and said that I have had a major breakthrough. I can't thank Susie enough for guiding me through this." I REALLY don't want you to miss out! And if you're still not sure, so long as you book a call with me to find out more before Jan 1st, I'll honour the 2020 price if you go ahead and there's a money back guarantee so you can't go wrong! x
15.01.2022 Imagine. You are all organised, chores are done, house is clean, hair is washed, eyebrows are the right shape, and you have a weekend ahead of catching up with your fave people and reading a great book. The kid/s are happy. Youve had a great nights sleep. You feel accomplished, your finances are in order and are steadily on the up. No-one you know is sick. And theres no global pandemic or climate emergency..... When you imagine this, how do you feel? I feel fantastic! But life just isnt like this is it. So, what to do? I can help you feel this way, no really! If youre waiting until everything is perfect, anything resembling peace of mind is unattainable. Its an inside job! Our attitude to stress is PARAMOUNT in how much it messes with us. You CAN feel like you would if all of the above was a reality - most of the time at least - ups and downs are normal after-all. Some stress is part of the deal. And its not all bad. It motivates and energizes us BUT we need some strategies to keep it in check AND we need to re-frame it. The Lilo 5 week virtual private program is a tiny time commitment and can help you do just this. Check it out and try a taste. Id so love to help you experience more flow and less stress. x www.lilowellness.com.au/reset_program_info

14.01.2022 Its been a really hard decision, but after six years I have decided to stop teaching yoga at Waverley Yoga Studio. I got the most incredible messages of thanks from some of my regulars... Heres a recent testimonial. "Wednesday yoga with Susie has been a regular part of my life for a significant time. Her reflections shared in such an immediate and gentle way have created many ah ha moments. Susie is an important part of my understanding of me and all the changes in dai...ly life. We are all lucky to have her wisdom, fun and friendship and to know it is being shared more widely." Thanks so much Sue! I will miss it so much, but the time has some for me to focus solely on Lilo. Thank you all so much to my students. It has been an absolute joy. To keep hearing from me, as well as here you can receive the Lilo newsletter which is full of gold as I curate my fave articles, videos and more every 2 weeks. 14.01.2022 Mindfulness.. Where do I start? Answer. Keep it seriously simple. Start with 5 minutes a day. You can find my super simple meditation on the breath that goes for about 6 minutes on the free app Insight Timer Search for my name to find it. Write down, right now, WHY you want to meditate, whats at risk if you dont. And then write down when and where you will meditate every day (or at least as many times as you can. And then put a reminder in your phone 1/2 and hour bef...ore this time. And most importantly(!) let go of what you think meditation SHOULD be like, how it should feel. And just notice whatever you notice. Want some help with this stuff. DM me to book in a complimentary sess. Thats it! Youre welcome!x
14.01.2022 Am super excited to be back with these rock stars as part of the @oneroofwomen community having joined their awesome #OneLine virtual offering that supports women in business. Been way too long! Cant wait to network virtually with lots of other women in business after too long going it alone. How do you get your dose of community in these times?
14.01.2022 The sadness in the world on so many fronts and the need for us all to take action and responsibility is so overwhelming right now. One thing is certain, if we really want to have a positive impact then we must start with ourselves. And in times where stress levels are higher than ever for so many, building mental resilience has never been more important. This is my passion at the best of times and even more so at the worst. Meditation and other simple practices both build ...mental resilience AND enable you to have more impact and contribute more joy and compassion to your local and the global community. And that is what we need right now. So message me if youd like to hear more about how I can help you get intentional about taking care of your mind. Susie x (And if all this sounds fab but you are experiencing financial hardship, just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate. )
13.01.2022 The Special Needs Parent and Carer Support and Advisory Service is officially happening. Claire was my first client. When I then reached out via Facebook to see if I might be able to help others, it was as clear as day that there is a huge need for this service. One-hour sessions combine peer support with extensive health professional knowledge and years of experience in paediatrics, research and public health. In partnership with them, I help parents and carers get clarity... on steps they can take to meet their kid’s complex needs. The service spans health and disability and has a holistic approach that, of course, includes supporting them to manage stress and promote their own mental health. I wish so much I could have accessed a service like this when we first found out that Harry is autistic and has significant support needs. I remember SO clearly navigating the most insane amount of info, it was as if flood gates had opened and even with my knowledge and experience, I was completely unable to determine, for the life of me, what I was supposed to do next. So, I’m really happy to be able to help others in this way. And these sessions are claimable with NDIS (here in Australia) if you self-manage and may also be if plan managed but you will need to confirm this. 12.01.2022 I already feel lighter, it’s changed things, everything feels more doable! Not a bad testimonial after just 20 minutes exploring how Kate from @paperboat_digital could make sure she experiences less stress. She then added This has been so helpful, the realisation that I felt trapped by all my responsibilities, and that it may not be as hard as I thought to shift some fundamental things feels good. Later I logged into Linked In to find this message in my inbox. Loved it! ...Susie you are so good at what you do. It's really inspired me as a business woman, and as a human, really bloody helpful! Thank you so much. . This was after one 20-minute stress management strategy session. Such an incredible start, though I find the magic number of sessions is five for imbedded, lasting impact. . I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to receive this kind of feedback. Would you like to be less stressed or help your team be less stressed in 2020? . Message me so we can schedule a 20-minute free sess. to explore how I can help. . #lilowellness #stressrelief #mindfulnessforwomen #workfromhome #stressreduction #mindfulnessmelbourne #mindfulllife #melbournewomeninbusiness #mumsinbusiness #singleparents #flow #femalefounder #specialneeds #specialneedsmum
12.01.2022 What's the single most important habit you've ever formed and why? Forming habits is like lighting a fire. The spark is our reason we want something to change, what motivates us internally.... But the oxygen comes from the environment. If you want to develop a new habit, get really clear on WHY. Then create the context that IGNITES that spark and FEEDS your fire. This a great article. Enjoy! http://ow.ly/LmYe50Ah78f

11.01.2022 The wellbeing of mums and dads, and especially parents of kids who are neurodiverse or have special needs, is of paramount importance. Please talk to your boss about the reality of the challenges youre dealing with. If you are a manager and you want to support your parents, I am in the process of writing 10 articles for a web resource on important topics for parents wellbeing. Topics include: Mental Wellbeing. Is it time to seek help? Dealing with difficult thoughts and feelings. Making friends with stress. And a whole heap more. If you think some content such as this would help people where you work, dont hesitate to get in touch. And Im always available for a complimentary sess. to help you get clear on some simple, practical tools for less stress. These one off sessions will remain complimentary until this nightmare has settled right down. DM me any time for how to book in at a time that suits. Suse x
10.01.2022 So much relies on our respiratory health - and right now we are all so very aware of this. Yet most of us dont give breathing a thought from the day were born until the day we die. Which is such a shame as deep breathing is one of the most simple and effective ways to settle the stress response. And you dont have to be in a yoga studio to do it. Both throughout the day to keep your mojo alive, and when the sh*t hits the fan. ... Most of us know this, many of us encourage our kids to do it, but we rarely stop and do it ourselves. Getting really familiar with deep breathing is a seriously good idea if you want to make friends with stress, because lets face it, stress is not going away any time soon and its part of any full and satisfying life at the best of times. Why not stop and do it right now, 8 to 10 deep, long, slow, gentle breaths. Then tell me in the comments how it made you feel.
10.01.2022 Have you ever considered that you might be neurodivergent? Neither had I! Id really appreciate it if you could read this article as I think the world needs to hear these stories. Many people in your life are neurodivergent and even you may be. It is only because of the stigma associated with my condition that I didnt know many, many years earlier. In the three or so months since I began treatment the amount I have been able to achieve in my business has blown my mind! Big ...things are coming! No wonder Im so passionate about helping people manage stress. These practices are the only reason I no longer have terrible mental health problems like most people with this condition who dont receive treatment and/or support. x http://ow.ly/dO3l50AC7Vq
09.01.2022 I am OVER THE MOON to announce the launch of a FREE online stress management course for parents of kids with special needs. Link in first comment. (Facebook is less likely to show it to you if I add it here...) It's really a 'crash-course' for time-poor parents, because let's face it, if you have a child with special needs time for self-care is NOT easy to come by. ... It covers: What stress is How to relax , and What the evidence says reduces stress And most importantly, it helps you develop a plan for less stress going forward. Please share far and wide and especially with parents of exceptional kids. There is also a much more in-depth version of this course on its way too. And finally, the latest Staying Cool newsletter is out today and covers the absolutely fascinating topic of how feeling the physical sensations of emotions can help us manage them. You guessed it, link in first comment! With warmth, Susie x #stressmanagement #workingparents

08.01.2022 And the appointments resume... Today it's an auditory processing assessment. Parents of exceptional kids - and let's face it, the vast majority of the time it's mums - spend an insane amount of time resesrching, scheduling, organising, claiming, attending appointments, implementing strategies, purchasing equipment and more to support thier kids to thrive. Working full time is not an option. The financial implications of this is huge for so many women. ... Last year Harry did an auditory training program (2 hours a day for 3 weeks) to assist him with auditory sensitivity and other processing challenges. His auditory sensitivity is WAY better - which is huge as it made going places tough before. We live in a very noisy world. Being with my autistic son has made me so much more aware of loud noise (and love hearts! He sees them everywhere!) Poor child having inherited a loud mama. It's definitely helped me to tone it down too. I'd love to know, do you get much support from your partner in managing all this stuff? At least with solo parenting it's a given that it's just down to me!
07.01.2022 When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. I love this quote from an article by by Jennifer Garvey Berger and Zafer Gedeon Achi from global consultancy firm McKinsey and Company, and quoted in my first post published by Thrive Global. Happy dance! I hope it is helpful to you. x... http://ow.ly/GwpE50zS1AL
07.01.2022 What research is finding out about the relaxation response's effect on our genes is astounding. here is what they found (in the study)... The relaxation response also has an anti-aging effect, in that it preserves the ends of your chromosomes called telomeres." And that's just on our genes! So, I'm genuinely curious, I'd love to know, how do you activate your 'relaxation response'? https://blog.usejournal.com/your-brain-on-meditation-344a63

05.01.2022 It's been a really hard decision, but after six years I have decided to stop teaching yoga at Waverley Yoga Studio. I got the most incredible messages of thanks from some of my regulars... Here's a recent testimonial. Most of us know this, many of us encourage our kids to do it, but we rarely stop and do it ourselves.... 01.01.2022 Feedback like this makes it all worthwhile! The pleasure really is all mine. These difficult times have been just that for my business, Lilo Wellness, as most of my work was face to face at workplaces. Pivoting to online is not easy when you are the only parent and your little one is at home with you 24/7 for nearly 3 months...... But I have done it and Im really proud of the new program Im offering, which is much more tailored now that it is one-on-one. And therefore it can pack much more punch. If you know you need to make changes to promote your mental health but you dont know where to start, check out this link. x http://ow.ly/x4PV50AliEv
01.01.2022 Staying Cool #14 - The latest edition of my newsletter is out! Learn all about how to lower your cortisol and get a good old dose of hope and inspiration. https://mailchi.mp/268683738672/staying-cool-14 My 50th birthday on Sunday was the most joyful of days with the news that a climate denier was no longer in power in one of the most powerful countries in the world.... The fact is, my life is stressful. Parenting an autistic child solo just is. But it has just been made a whole lot less so. Throughout the last four years, I did turn to the principle of impermanence - a foundational principle of mindfulness - and I remained hopeful that things would turn around in the US and therefore in the world. What a time of hope we have just moved into. https://mailchi.mp/268683738672/staying-cool-14
