22.01.2022 Lilydale Brigade were called out this afternoon for a burn that got into the base of a large hollow tree. Lilydale 3.1 with four members and Rocherlea 4.1 and 5.1 attended. The fire burned up the centre of the tree enough to weaken it to the point where it snapped off half way up the trunk. After the fire was controlled an excavator was brought in to remove the hazardous damaged tree. (Photos: Thanks Dave and Jayden)

21.01.2022 A few more photos from yesterday's fire. (Thanks Dave C)

21.01.2022 Do your 5 minute bushfire plan here - https://bushfire.tas.gov.au/

20.01.2022 Lilydale brigade responded to a vegetation fire at Excalibur road today. When they arrived they found that someone had dumped a load of rubbish and deliberately set it alight. The fire had spread into the surrounding bush. Liydale 3.1 and 5.1 with six members were the initial responders, and our Group Officer and crews from Sustainable Timber and Parks also attended. The fire was contained quickly and crews remained until fire was blacked out.

18.01.2022 TFS had their community pre-season fire briefing at Lilydale Memorial Hall last night. The briefing was provided by our Lilydale brigade chief Dave Cleaver and our acting district officer Rick Mahnken. We also had a number of our Lilydale brigade members assisting. We had a small but enthusiastic crowd and concluded that we must have done such a good job at last year's briefing that people felt well enough informed.... If you need any information about Fire Alerts, Fire Safety, Fire Permits, Fire Bans, Fire Danger Ratings, Smoke Alarms etc. go to https://www.fire.tas.gov.au

17.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was out training again last night. Another burn off exercise which not only gave the members the chance to practice their teamwork and fire fighting skills, but also the chance to study fire behaviour.

17.01.2022 Hazard icons across the country have a new consistent look. The new Australian Warning System introduces several changes to the way the community will be notified about hazards. We're rolling out the first stage of the changes to the Australian Warning System for bushfire in Tassie today. The changes will include the way bushfire warnings are displayed on the TFS website. From today, consistent colours will be used for: Advice (yellow), ... Watch and Act (orange); and Emergency Warning (red) The icon shapes will also change on maps from diamonds to triangles. While the colours and icons change, the meanings of the levels do not change. The changes are designed to bring consistency to the way warnings are displayed across Australia. Over time more states will use the new colours and icons and they will be used for other hazards like floods and storms. Further changes will occur in Tasmania in 2021, including enhancements to our warning messages. The Australian Warnings System is based on community research and good practice, in terms of what communities recognise and what gets people to take action during an emergency.

14.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was busy again yesterday. Called out before lunch to a vegetation fire at Rowleys Hill Rd, Karoola. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with 4 members went to assist Rocherlea 4.1 and 5.1. The fire was contained quickly despite the strong winds, but blacking out took a few hours.... When we arrived back at the station in the afternoon and were busy cleaning up gear, another call came through for a flare up at the site of the fire above Lilydale Falls from 9 days ago. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with 4 members responded and were assisted by Lebrina 4.1 (Kempeners Road Photos: Thanks Dave C)

13.01.2022 Simple steps to burning off safely this spring. We’ve seen a significant increase in the number of fires needing TFS assistance over the last month. The daytime temperature and wind are warming, vegetation is very drying and fires can still run quickly in light vegetation. We want you to reduce fuel loads but please do it safely. Remember- YOU MUST HAVE ENOUGH WATER TO EXTINGUISH ANYTHING YOU LIGHT. Sometimes a watering can will be enough. Light small piles that can be ea...sily managed instead of larger heaps. Avoid lightning bush areas unless you have a portable fire tank and pump. Never light at the bottom of a slope and avoid having the wind behind the fire. Avoid burning during early to mid afternoon on hot days, early evening is a good time. ALWAYS REGISTER YOUR BURN. Freecall 1800 000 699. This avoids unnecessary responses from us and red faces when we turn up. Have you completed your 5 Minute FirePlan yet?

08.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was called out again today to a structure fire at Wyena. The fire started in a shed and unfortunately spread to the adjoining house. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with 4 members, Lebrina 4.1, Rocherlea 1.1 and 3.1 all attended but sadly the shed was completely destroyed and the house was badly damaged. (Photos: Thanks Dave M)

08.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was out again yesterday. Called to a vegetation fire at Pipers River Road to assist a land owner with a burn. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with ten members attended with Pipers River 4.1, our Group Officer and later our acting District Officer. An excavator and water tanker were also brought in later in the day. Continued into darkness with containment work and returned again today with the same appliances and six members to continue with work to keep the burn isolat...ed from surrounding bush. A large dozer was also called in today. See more

06.01.2022 Lilydale brigade were called out yesterday afternoon to a vegetation fire (escaped burn) in the area above Lilydale falls. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with seven members, and Lebrina 4.1 and our group officer attended. The ground fire was contained quickly but members remained into the evening as fire was still burning in one of the tree tops. (Photos: Thanks Jayden and Dave M)

01.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon brigade members responded to an MVA at Prossers Rd. but were called off by another brigade on scene. Less than an hour later Lilydale 5.1 and three members responded to a vegetation fire at Lalla Rd where a burn had somehow spread to a firewood pile. The owner had done the right thing and registered the burn, and had called for assistance quickly when things went wrong.
