25.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was out training again last night. Another burn off exercise which not only gave the members the chance to practice their teamwork and fire fighting skills, but also the chance to study fire behaviour.

24.01.2022 Lilydale Brigade members are back to training. Started 2 weeks ago with Road Crash Rescue training at George Town. Tonight Breathing Apparatus training and basic training for two new members.

24.01.2022 Lilydale brigade responded to a vegetation fire at Excalibur road today. When they arrived they found that someone had dumped a load of rubbish and deliberately set it alight. The fire had spread into the surrounding bush. Liydale 3.1 and 5.1 with six members were the initial responders, and our Group Officer and crews from Sustainable Timber and Parks also attended. The fire was contained quickly and crews remained until fire was blacked out.

24.01.2022 Happy Easter Lilydale, our neighbouring communities, and our fellow firefighters wherever you are. Hope you are getting to enjoy yourselves despite the COVID restrictions. Stay safe.

23.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was out again yesterday. Called to a vegetation fire at Pipers River Road to assist a land owner with a burn. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with ten members attended with Pipers River 4.1, our Group Officer and later our acting District Officer. An excavator and water tanker were also brought in later in the day. Continued into darkness with containment work and returned again today with the same appliances and six members to continue with work to keep the burn isolat...ed from surrounding bush. A large dozer was also called in today. See more

22.01.2022 Simple steps to burning off safely this spring. We’ve seen a significant increase in the number of fires needing TFS assistance over the last month. The daytime temperature and wind are warming, vegetation is very drying and fires can still run quickly in light vegetation. We want you to reduce fuel loads but please do it safely. Remember- YOU MUST HAVE ENOUGH WATER TO EXTINGUISH ANYTHING YOU LIGHT. Sometimes a watering can will be enough. Light small piles that can be ea...sily managed instead of larger heaps. Avoid lightning bush areas unless you have a portable fire tank and pump. Never light at the bottom of a slope and avoid having the wind behind the fire. Avoid burning during early to mid afternoon on hot days, early evening is a good time. ALWAYS REGISTER YOUR BURN. Freecall 1800 000 699. This avoids unnecessary responses from us and red faces when we turn up. Have you completed your 5 Minute FirePlan yet?

22.01.2022 After yesterday’s Lolly Run Lilydale Brigade had their Annual Dinner / BBQ and presentation night. A smaller event this year due to COVID but still enjoyed by all. There were many awards, certificates, citations and medals to be presented. Certificates were presented to the winners of last year’s Mt. Arthur group exercise.... Certificates were also presented to the past winners of the Brigademanship (Lindsay Tiger Pollard Memorial) Award. TFS Volunteer Jubilee Medals were presented to the members that became eligible this year. The Wally award for this year was won by Mason Dawe for accidently trying to burn out his car and calling the brigade to put it out. This years Brigadesmanship award was won by David Munroe. A very deserving winner who did 2 deployments to NSW, shows up for just about every local call out and is always available when mowing, maintenance or anything else is required for the brigade. Two brigade members received the NSW Premier’s bushfire emergency citation for their work while deployed to NSW during 2019 2020 fires. Congratulations David Munro and Rick Trickett. On a sad note for our members, we lost two long servicing, experienced and respected members of the brigade who are both off to Queensland. Farewell to Mason Dawe and Rick Trickett who were presented with engraved flasks. We wish them all the best for their future and are certain that our loss will be Queensland’s gain. Special thanks to family members and Lilydale Lions Deb and Amanda who prepared, cooked and served our BBQ dinner.

22.01.2022 Lilydale Brigade held elections tonight for the officer group. (Thanks to Jason & Jayden for photos)

21.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was busy again yesterday. Called out before lunch to a vegetation fire at Rowleys Hill Rd, Karoola. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with 4 members went to assist Rocherlea 4.1 and 5.1. The fire was contained quickly despite the strong winds, but blacking out took a few hours.... When we arrived back at the station in the afternoon and were busy cleaning up gear, another call came through for a flare up at the site of the fire above Lilydale Falls from 9 days ago. Lilydale 3.1 and 5.1 with 4 members responded and were assisted by Lebrina 4.1 (Kempeners Road Photos: Thanks Dave C)

16.01.2022 Hazard icons across the country have a new consistent look. The new Australian Warning System introduces several changes to the way the community will be notified about hazards. We're rolling out the first stage of the changes to the Australian Warning System for bushfire in Tassie today. The changes will include the way bushfire warnings are displayed on the TFS website. From today, consistent colours will be used for: Advice (yellow), ... Watch and Act (orange); and Emergency Warning (red) The icon shapes will also change on maps from diamonds to triangles. While the colours and icons change, the meanings of the levels do not change. The changes are designed to bring consistency to the way warnings are displayed across Australia. Over time more states will use the new colours and icons and they will be used for other hazards like floods and storms. Further changes will occur in Tasmania in 2021, including enhancements to our warning messages. The Australian Warnings System is based on community research and good practice, in terms of what communities recognise and what gets people to take action during an emergency.

15.01.2022 A few more photos from yesterday's fire. (Thanks Dave C)

12.01.2022 Lilydale Brigade members commemorating ANZAC day and "lighting up dawn" to pay their respects.

12.01.2022 Lalla Road residents now have the Lalla Emergency Network Facebook page to join. This is a great initiative by residents to establish a network for the creation of a phone tree for Lalla Rd residents. Keep up to date with progress by joining the Lalla page. We support community groups working together to address bushfire safety.

After the fire was controlled an excavator was brought in to remove the hazardous damaged tree. (Photos: Thanks Dave and Jayden)

10.01.2022 This is why it is so important to use the correct media / extinguisher for different classes of fire.

06.01.2022 TFS had their community pre-season fire briefing at Lilydale Memorial Hall last night. The briefing was provided by our Lilydale brigade chief Dave Cleaver and our acting district officer Rick Mahnken. We also had a number of our Lilydale brigade members assisting. We had a small but enthusiastic crowd and concluded that we must have done such a good job at last year's briefing that people felt well enough informed.... If you need any information about Fire Alerts, Fire Safety, Fire Permits, Fire Bans, Fire Danger Ratings, Smoke Alarms etc. go to https://www.fire.tas.gov.au

05.01.2022 Lilydale brigade were called out yesterday afternoon to a vegetation fire (escaped burn) in the area above Lilydale falls. 03.01.2022 Lilydale brigade was called out tonight when a fallen tree brought down power lines on Brown Mountain Road, Karoola. The arcing power lines also started small vegetation fires. Lilydale 3.1 and 5 members attended, extinguished the fires, made the area safe, and stayed on site until TAS Networks isolated the power to the damaged lines. Power supply to some residences has been affected. (Photos: Thanks Jayden)

01.01.2022 Training earlier this week included BA refresher training for two of our Lilydale members and two Bridport brigade members. The other members went out in the vehicles and trained in various scenarios, including the very important "Burn Over" procedure.
