23.01.2022 We head down the South Coast of NSW to Newbold General Refactories in Thirroul (circa 1950's). Original cast propellers (as shown) weighing approx. 50 lbs (22.5Kg) would force wet brick material into a die. These propellers would last 3 days and produce 30,000 bricks (image on left) at which time they needed maintenance. Lincoln hardfacing stepped in to extend the life of the propeller to 10 days and 100,000 bricks (image on right). If the reclaimed propeller was pushed to its limits it could produce 231,000 bricks! At the time 4 hours of welding were needed, but with Faceweld electrodes that was cut to 1.5 hours. Gotta love Lincoln Hardfacing technology. Happy Flashback Friday.

19.01.2022 Ah the smell of hay, the frosty cold mornings, the distant sound of cows mooing - it must be another field day. These events are always good for the people on the land to see the new products offered. Lincoln is no different here we have the latest offering from the early 1950’s. Starting from the left hand side we have the AC machines a TM 300, 2x AC225s, IdealArc 250 and a Weldanpower 225. As we move along we get to the DC machines a Lincwelder 250 belted, (predecessor of the famous Tractapac) mounted on a trailer, sneaking in directly behind it is a 180 or 250MK, Lincwelder 180DC, then there is a Lincwelder DC 250 AS (Wisconsin VF-4), lastly what looks like a SAE300 (Wisconsin). Behind these are compressors from another exhibitor in a similar yellow colour. Enjoy your day, happy Flashback Friday.

14.01.2022 With summer fast approaching Lincoln Electric just want to remind everyone to stay safe when welding outdoors. Always wear proper personal protective equipment. Today we show you how to get the best all over tan in the 1960's while welding with Fleetweld in the Western Australian sun Stay safe and happy Flashback Friday!

14.01.2022 We land in the mid 1970's where welding contractor R. Black from Ryde NSW stands next to his newly acquired Lincoln 350-D diesel welder. The 15 cwt. (762kg) welder is moved readily on and off the job with this table top truck. The 350-D gives up to 400 amps output and is rated at 40 volts at 60% duty cycle. There is also 1kW of 110 volt DC power for tools and lights. Mr. Black moved from a petrol driven unit to a diesel unit. He was quoted "my advice to anyone starting his own field welding business is to get a diesel welder rather than a petrol driven unit." His 350-D allowed him to run larger rods which meant quicker welding on selected jobs. It also allowed him to run much longer welding leads without any voltage drop at the arc, not to mention the fuel savings. Happy Flashback Friday.

13.01.2022 Ah I lost count of the number of field days that I have been too over the past 42 years. They were a lot of fun
