23.01.2022 This week is Dental Health Week! The focus for the week is hidden sugars which are hiding out in our trolley and pantry. Sugar feeds the bacteria in our oral cavity which can lead to tooth decay. Often we are unaware of just how much sugar we consume as it may be in the form of many different foods, not just sweets. ... Next time youre walking through the grocery store or opening the cupboard for a snack, have a look at the label and see how much sugar is hiding there. 21.01.2022 Bruxism ie. tooth grinding/ clenching is a relatively common problem which can cause discomfort and exacerbate existing dental conditions. Symptoms of bruxism range from a dull headache to chipped teeth to increased sensitivity. Your dentist may be able to help by fitting you with an occlusal splint to wear as you sleep to reduce grinding of your teeth against each other. Stress and other psychological factors may be contributing to bruxism thus, it is important to seek the... appropriate care if needed in addition to seeing your dentist. #lindfieldfamilydental #lindfielddentist #teethgrinding

Dentists use x-rays to identify these problems early, ensuring that treatment commences before the problem becomes more significant. Although some may worry about radiation, the x-rays produced in dental imaging only contribute a minor amount to total exposure in everyday life. Your dentist can always discuss this furthe...r with you if you have concerns. #xray #lindfieldfamilydental #lindfielddentist #lindfield #sydneydentist

08.01.2022 Patients are often concerned with tooth staining. There are lots of different factors which contribute to tooth staining. Some people are more prone to having discolouration on their teeth because of the stain forming bacteria in their mouth. Staining of the external tooth surface can be due to strongly pigmented food and drink. Tobacco products contain particles which can adhere to tooth enamel which in turn will stain teeth and soft tissues in the oral cavity. The build up... of tartar will also contribute to tooth staining as with long term use of Chlorhexidine mouthwash. Other factors which cause staining include aging, tooth trauma, medications, genetics and developmental conditions that interfere with tooth formation. Steps you can implement daily to reduce staining on your teeth include: - Brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste for 2 minutes twice daily and flossing once a day. - Reducing the consumption of food and drink which are high in tannins like tea, coffee and red wine will help in preventing stains. - It is good to rinse your mouth with water after eating especially when meals are high in sugar or dark coloured foods. - Drinking beverages other than water through a straw may also help to minimise tooth discolouration. - Stopping the use of nicotine or tobacco products. For external staining, a simple clean during your dental visit can restore a brighter tooth colour. It is important to see your dentist regularly for assessments and professional cleans. Your dentist can also discuss tooth whitening options and other cosmetic procedures with you. #lindfieldfamilydental #lindfielddentist #toothstainremoval

06.01.2022 Pregnancy is an exciting time. Whilst you may be busy attending a variety of health related appointments, it is important to make sure you are not neglecting your oral health. Here are some tips which may help you to take care of your teeth during this time. 1. Keep up good oral hygiene Hormone increases in pregnancy can dampen your bodys response to plaque. We recommend that you brush your teeth twice a day and floss once.... 2. Keep up your regular check up and clean with your dentist. Gum and tooth problems may be aggravated due to hormonal changes. Hormones may also increase gum bleeding. The best time for a dental consultation is during your second trimester. 3. Dealing with morning sickness Acid can cause severe damage to your teeth. Try to wait at least an hour after an episode before brushing your teeth. Instead, rinse your mouth with water while you wait. Brushing too soon may cause the enamel on your teeth to be stripped away. This can lead to cavities and increased sensitivity. 4. Food cravings Sugar feeds the bacteria in your mouth, leading to increased stripping of tooth enamel. Try to limit your intake of sugary foods as much as possible, swapping them instead for healthier options. As always, remember to drink lots of water. #lindfieldfamilydental #lindfielddentist #pregnancy #motherhood
05.01.2022 Recently, we tried out the Curaprox Be You flavoured toothpaste. The flavours were nice and subtle, still leaving a fresh feeling after brushing. The toothpastes are all low foaming. Of the 6 flavours we tried, our favourites are - Blackberry and Licorice as well as Gin Tonic and Persimmon. If youre someone who wants to try something different from the conventional mint toothpaste, why not give these a go?!
