08.01.2022 This is my image for 2019 @loudandluminous exhibition @contact__sheet. The theme for this work is Power. True power to me is not about physical strength or being dominant. It is about respectful relationships, embracing our differences, collaboration, showing vulnerability, compassion, kindness, knowing when to take the lead and when to stand back. It is about elevating those around us. This is a portrait of an acrobatic duo called Super Circus Squad They are @hannahcryle and... Reece Cooper. They have created a show that deliberately flips the gender roles. Hannah is bigger and stronger and Reece is more elegant and graceful. Their aim of the show is to promote appropriate communication and relationships between men and women. My initial intention for this image was to show the power and strength of Hannah and use Reece as prop however over the course of the shoot it became apparent that this was a collaboration of equals, each celebrating the other’s strengths. I found that their power came from equality not from one person being dominant over the other.
